Some great new games coming out soon - Err.....
And he spoke for how long...?
Oh hold on... he mentioned Singstar. I can hardly wait...
I've heard rumor that Crackdown will seeing some (free?) downloadable content via XBLM, so there's that, too.
The retail game comes with 900 points worth of achievements. My understanding is that the extra 100 points will come via downloadable content and the developers will not be able to charge for it. Apparently (although this is only what I've read in other forums) Microsoft's achievements system dictates that the customer has a right to expect the full 1,000 points for the original purchase price. You can't charge for extra content to make up the numbers.
On a personal note, I think the game absolutely rocks for the first 20 hours or so. After that it begins to wane quickly once you've beaten it and picked up most of the extra achievements. If it had more content and storyline I'd pick it over GTA any day of the week.
Hmm - sorry - missed that reply - If anyone is still interested, leave a message here and I'll tell the tale. I'm thinking most people will have left this debate for dead by now though.
Yeah, I hate diversity too! Seriously, how is that a selling point?
You're making the mistake of assuming everyone is as unprejudiced as your good self. There are plenty of people out there who would consider it a big plus. If anything, in recent times I'd say that number could even be growing.
the pirate needs to search for any of 6000 possible spots for the watermark, and remove it.
I'm trying to think of a nifty device that would be able to search 6,000 possible spots in a file to look for a watermark, but the name escapes me just at the moment...
No wait... I think I've got it... Isn't it called a "computer"?
Religion is stupid, a hopeless belief in one of a panetheon of mutally contradictory super beings held together with fictious fairy stories and arcane rituals.
Actually I think it's rather smart.
1. Invent an imaginary man in the sky as an excuse to impose your own petty bigotry on other people.
2. Claim that it is unethical and wrong to criticize you because of your "faith".
3....
4. Profit! (...err sorry - wrong joke - but hey... in the case of the religious right, maybe not!)
I can't think of many other made-up stories that have stood the test of time so well.
Newsflash! The engineers already got paid while they were designing it.
Added to which, I don't see the engineers insisting they have to be paid again and again every time a car is sold. They took their fee and were happy with it.
Anyway, Australians should try living in Japan. We're still on Season 9 of 'Friends'. I believe the last episode I saw was called "The One Where It Doesn't Arrive For Five Years".
So now that Windows doesn't have support for this and that software, it has given users a chance to revisit those statements above and make a decision.
Uhh... Windows does. Most people are probably already using XP. Last time I checked XP was part of the Windows family.
If you believe this story from the BBC (Parrot's oratory stuns scientists) -and there's no reason to instantly dismiss- it then this parrot has seemingly demonstrated fairly advanced cognitive (linguistic) skills. If a parrot can genuinely do what the article claims, then why not chimps?
It's already happened before in history with another species called Homo sapiens... Whatever happened to those guys?
I never quite understood this; can't you compile FF2 on your Fedora? Is it just the issue of the fact that it can't be installed using a package manager?
A slightly unrelated point (forgive me for picking on you since it wasn't actually what you were commenting on), but you've admirably demonstrated an attitude which shows why Fedora, and arguably most Linux distros will *never* gain mainstream acceptance or significant market share on the desktop. While I agree that Raymond is a something of a self-promoting egotist, he has at least pointed out the lack of direction on this issue.
1) explain what a beowulf cluster is
2) make soviet russia joke
3) make netcraft reference
You forgot to mention that this story is clearly a fake, since it makes the outrageous accusation that at some point in time a woman not only found a geek attractive, but also married him.
Nope.. if it was advertising it would have used Google Adwords on the website to generate profit..
At first I thought he was an idiot for not using Adwords, but now I can see that he's a brilliant entrepreneur. After all, anyone aiming to generate a profit clearly knows nothing about running internet start-ups.
Do I feel deceived Jennifer C.'s tears were fake? Hmmmmm.... had she "acted" them, what would have made them any more real?
I think more to the point, had those tears been created by dripping a pipette of water onto her face (as I'm sure has historically been the case for decades) would we even care? So what if digital manipulation is used. Are we supposed to believe that sweat was actually produced by the actors body and not from a spray bottle, or that they actually bled when shot before digital manipulation arrived? This just catches the stuff that was missed during shooting. It's not really any different to make-up, lighting, prosthetics or any other creative medium which enhances the look of the actors.
The point is, the people buying the no OS machines might not want to run Linux at all, so why limit the parts to Linux compatible only. I can see the point your making - what I'm saying is, there may be people who want to run Solaris, who don't care that the part in question doesn't have Linux drivers. The fact that there is no "No OS/Solaris" option in the configurator means that the No OS/Linux option is the only one they can go for - but it doesn't necessarily mean Linux is their OS of choice.
I'm not seeing your point. Incompatible hardware is only a problem if you have an existing computer, and you want to run a different OS on it. If you're building the machine, as Dell is, it doesn't make any sense to purposely choose hardware that's incompatible with the OS most people (buying these machines) want to use.
So you're saying that Dell should only be allowed to ship their servers with 100% Linux compatible parts? Presumably you're one of the people who also complained when they were a 100% Microsoft lock-in.
You said it yourself in the comment: "the OS most people want to use" (emphasis mine). I note you specifically didn't say all people. Which means there there are people out there who may not want their hardware requirements dictated by an OS they're not even going to install.
Not many games are that deep. And chess, card games & boardgames can all do that too.
So you're saying that because it's not true of every game, or because other things can also do the same, then this invalidates my argument? Man... they should pay you for genius insight like this. Presumably you think a bicycle isn't a viable method of transport for getting you to the end of the street, because some bikes have flat tires, or because cars travel faster?
I won't even bother with your other arguments since they're more or less in the same vein (I'd recommend you understand the concept of 2-dimensional spacial awareness though - it's the kind of thing that would allow you to read this text even if it were upside down - basically your life would be fucked without it). Obviously all those psychologists who have worked on it for decades are investigating a phenomenon which doesn't exist.
I am not sure anyone really expected the Wii to be selling at the rate it is
I'm sure I can't be the only person on slashdot who reads this and thinks "well actually I thought it would." Surely I haven't just become the world's leading business analyst overnight. Following on from their strong showing with the DS, I felt a lot of people (although none of the moron^H^H^H^H^Hexperts who get paid to share their infinite wisdom) seemed to predict this as Nintendo's second coming. Perhaps some analyst company would like to pay me stupid amounts of money - I'm open to offers. I was so sure about it, I even told my retired and not particularly wealthy parents to buy Nintendo stock (and they'd never forgive me if I was wrong).
What advantage do you get from playing with a playstation?
Forgive me if I don't cite sources (I'm in a hurry), but a quick Google search will probably do the job for you. The following benefits have all been proposed by psychologists as a result of playing video games.
* Improved reasoning, critical problem solving and rational decision making
* therapeutic effects (stress relief)
* improved hand-eye coordination
* improved spatial awareness
It seems many people here assume that if it's got a computer in it, it's educational.
On the contrary. I would suggest that more often than not (as you admirably demonstrated) people assume that if it's a video game then somehow it can't be educational.

I have cable. Fox Channel shows friends. Fox Channel is on season 9. They don't show it on any other channels.

Yeah, mod me troll, and then admit you thought the same thing.
Good for them if they did. Annoying little prick.
