Nowadays us, the Western countries, such as the EU countries, the USA, Canada, etc are building our future on top level innovation, another source of income is attracting outside talent and students. A good example of that is my country, Holland, a pretty solid revenue for our universities are students from all over the world who come here to study and this means not only benefits for the universities but also for the rest of the economy, from housing to shopping.

But more importantly than that maybe is being able to create an environment that attracts both foreign talent and companies and this too works in synergy with the universities.

Large prestige operations such as ESA, CERN, etc are not only important for the scientists and basic research, they are important because they serve to showcase the level of infrastructure of a region and it's ability to house other projects and companies and the interest of these regions in maintaining and nurturing innovation.

With two radical anti-scientists such as Jim Inhofe and Ted Cruz in charge of institutions like NASA and similar the USA have already suffered a mayor damage to their image, just by their presence. And I am afraid that international talent will not be very attracted to your country if the conditions for them to work there are not attractive enough. Not to speak of possible reductions to agencies such as NOAA for instance given the hate this two fellows have against climate science and with disregard to the fact that predicting weather and climate is vital for the physical safety of your country.

    B) We know our history pretty well, and it happens that the Nazis, as good Germans, wrote down every single thing that they did in minute detail. Hell, we even have the time tables of the trains carrying people to Auschwitz! This "secret" complex is far from secret, and it even has it's very own Wikipedia page:
    http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/B...

    C) The Germans did an excellent job in getting rid of ANY scientist that could have been able to build a basic _reactor_. The only person in Germany that had an idea about fission was Otto Hahn, and he was completely ignored by the military and would have otherwise extremely reluctant to participate as he was involved in helping Germans of jewish religion to escape the country. And for the less agile of mind: No Fission = No U238 / No PU239 = NO Friggin' BOMB.

    D) Despite it's "German" Name, Oppenheimer, the father of the A-Bomb' is as USian as a bucket full of burgers, born in NYC (which is NOT a part of Austria, AFAIK)

    E) The only reason that Germany still exists today and is not a radioactive crater is that the Allies knew they had no bomb, else they would have called in the Little Boy and the Fat Man to pay my adoptive country a visit (for the slower of mind: That were the names of the two A-Bombs used to nuke the fuck out of Hiroshima and Nagasaki)

Well, it is happening right now in a lot of places and it has happened in the past in the USA too during the infamouse "Dust Bowl Years" in the 1930s.

It is also notorious in a huge part of the Mediterranean such as Spain where human activity has changed the whole southern sea shore from a Mediterranean climate rich in woods into a desert with a large erosion (I have been able to see land eroding away some 2-3 meters in a couple of years). This is Climate Change, and it is certainly Human Induced unless you want to claim that agriculture, wrong type of irrigation and water misuse (=golf fields), wrong crops and cutting down the woods for real estate speculation have all been caused by solar spots or that the images on Google Maps are actually based on counterfeit data from the IPCC. And this is happening all around the world since the Green Revolution began. So that we are talking about a Global Climate Change that is obviously human induced.

And here we are also reaching some tipping points: One of hem is the scarcity of fertile soil and water which is causing displacement of populations right now, through "voluntary" migration but also through land steal as global coroporations are trying to seize fertile soil for cash crops meant to feed cattle.

I would like to see Mr Inhofe trying to deny this. Good luck with that Jimmy.
