  1. Uhh Firefox isn't the only one... on Firefox Memory Leak is a Feature · · Score: 1

Okay, I see posts regarding how Opera doesn't do this and Opera is a greater browser, smaller footprint.
So I decided to check out Opera for myself to see if my expirience is any different. Right now I'm looking at the memory usage of Opera, I've only had it open for about 10 minutes, and I notice that it's taking up 65,234K of memory. I compared that to what FireFox takes up after about the same time frame, and what a surprise, FireFox takes up 68,321K of memory.
With webpages as complex as they are, I'm not surprised that they take up that much memory. When you cache complex pages, it's gonna take up memory, I'd rather have it be fast and use memory than constantly cache files to my hard drive, and slow down my system overall.

Intresting I haven't seen anyone mention the IBM PC XT! That was the very first system that I had the chance to use in my life, I was very very young, and my father had lucky enough to have this system given to him from work. The good ole' 8086 processor (not the 8088). Running DOS 3.10, even had the 3-ring binder hard-cover manuals with it. A 20 MB HDD with 640k of RAM and a 2400 bps internal modem. The first system I actually owned was a PC Express 286/16 with 8 MB's of RAM, with a Media Vision Multimedia pack, (Pro Audio Spectrum Plus and an external NEC 1x CD-ROM drive). That system I ran a BBS off of, Virtual BBS 7.00. That was in good ole' Junior High. (I was young when we got the XT system).

You betcha... when it runs on an AMD processor. I would love to, but since Apple refuses to look at other hardware than what they have on their machines it isn't going to happen.

You have to give credit to Apple for one thing though, by controlling the hardware that the software runs on, they can pretty much guarentee a good end-user expirience, less possible combinations of hardware to worry about, and makes it possible to include every piece of hardware that apple approves in the O/S. It makes the development cycle alot shorter when you only have one platform with specific hardware to worry about. Granted it's a different way of doing things then every other O/S and computer on the market, but it works for people who know that the product they by will never have driver problems, you just have to pay a little bit more for that quality assurance.

I wonder how they're planning on securing this. Methinks it's just a matter of time before someone finds a way to use the network for free. I mean, we've heard that its not too hard to crack WEP, so how are they going to make sure people don't freeload on this service?

No doubt authentication like smart cards or any 802.1x implementation...the user might need special hardware to access similar to the connection cards you'd have to get to use the exisiting cell networks like Sprint and Verizon and such. But judging from Chaska.net utilizing 802.11 clients, my guess is they'll use 802.1x in some form or another.

No, the music is on the MTV Music Video channel (and now have seperate genere channels to go along with it) a completely seperate channel now which does exactly what the original MTV channel did a long time ago, I can't even remember when that was! At any rate, of course you have to subscribe to digital cable to get it, or whatever the premium satellite package is. D'oh!

Since the article he wrote was released today, I took a look at both Tom's Hardware and AnandTech. Both had "previews" of the Dual Core Intel chips...both major sites. That's just an educated guess, but seems correct.

Looks like, at least in parts, the imagery is from an older dataset than what's on the Keyhole service. I live in a large neighborhood that's been under construction for 3 years across the various sections, and there are more houses in the Keyhole dataset than on the Google Maps satellite images. No idea how much older, but it can't be more than a year or so.
It varies even in my area of Minneapolis. Most of downtown is completely blobbed http://maps.google.com/maps?q=910+Elliot+Ave+Minne apolis+MN+55404&ll=44.969959,-93.263154&spn=0.0239 04,0.037293&t=k&hl=en out and then different subarbs were taken during different seasons of the year, parts of the city have wonderfully green trees, and the other their dormant. Lots of highway construction in the area showed exactly of when it was taken in the last 3 years, most of it looks to be during 2003 at varying points in the year.

The OS X Server liscence happens to include all the server elements, such as DHCP, DNS, Web services, file services (AFP, NFS, SMB), directory services, printer services, QuickTime streams, Plus the tools to administer them remotely from another Mac OS X client. Theoretically you could run a web server like apache on a regular OS X client. It's just a ton easier to configure under the native server enviornment.

When you buy a PC, your generally buying a Microsoft product along with it, just like with Apple your getting Apple software with it, consumers have a choice, a true monopoly would mean no competition.
