Canadian search on homosexuality even gives the children's books. Does amazon have shareholders? They shouldn't be too glad with amazon trying to scare off the huge market of US gays who buy online. Religious nut-jobs shouldn't be on the internet anyway, as the internet is made by the devil, so one wonders which market amazon US is trying to cater with their new policy.

Happened in the Netherlands, bol.com became the largest online bookstore, because amazon just couldn't be bothered to cater the Dutch market. Though we have our share of religious fundamentalists in the Netherlands, I don't think amazon will ever make it to the Dutch market successfully with their current attitude. That said, the german version of amazon shows normal books on homosexuality just fine in their first result page, so maybe it's just an US thing.

In the US, the linux mini 9 can be configured with all options, up to 64 GB SSD if I remember well. Really, try buying a linux netbook in the average computer store, there is none. At least in Germany you can get them at the smaller specialized computer stores. Also, the models you can get with linux are often not the ones with the best outfit, low RAM, slow SSD, etc. The reason behind this is, if you ask me, a matter of economics. Linux was convenient to get netbook pioneer Asus in the position to get the better deal out of Microsoft. E.g., not having to buy Vista. They will pull it out of the closet again when Windows has their netbook-optimized windows 7 ready (as if!).

I myself am at my second factory-preinstalled linux-based netbook (first Asus, now Dell), and my experiences are nothing but positive, The specially created interface on the asus was practical, the one on the Dell is fantastic and even stylish. I wouldn't want to have to navigate the miniature start menu of XP on my netbook. But then again I was already ready for Linux anyway. Let's see if Android will get new Linux users into the mobile devices market.

Seriously, what happened to just putting bombs near crowds? The idea is to instill fear into the public that at no place in their daily life they are safe.

True, cutting fiber at different parts in town would bring chaos, but why would you use a plan that requires such meticulous planning (and therefore a bigger chance to fail) when you could do it with easier means, just bomb one or two medium sized electricity outlets and along with the electricity network most communication systems will go down.

The stuff you describe would better fit a psychopath, but why would a psychopath purposely endanger the lifes of glass fiber technicians, unless of course they had a traumatic experience with one of them in their youth.

I think I see the reason. In Taiwan it's probably easy to get illegal installs of XP + all software when buying in small local shops- I know it happens in Russia. So the market for really free software is probably quite low. In Germany however, it is different. It is more difficult to sell computers with illegal stuff on it, and there is a substantially large group of pricky nerds that are in favor of linux for ideological reasons (and nationalist pride, suse started here). So at least in the small shops you can get linux netbooks, or notebooks with no OS preinstalled. And then there is Dell, where I bought my linux netbook via the german website.

Indeed, you can never cramp a comfortable screen size (say, starting 9 to 10 inch) in a device with the comfortable size of a cellphone. Still, I have nothing against my desktop PC and my phone having exactly the same OS. Not just the same type, really the same OS. It would make life terribly easy, syncing calendar data, music, etc.

I'm almost there, I currently have only one PC, a dell-ubuntu mini 9. It is connected at home to my 20 inch CRT and an external dvd drive to watch movies (planning to add a beamer). I have no need for more computing power! My only internet connection is a prepaid UMTS stick (no contract). I considered using the netbook also as a phone with some bluetooth headset, but the 3 hour battery life is not really helping. Also, I'd always have to carry around a relatively bulky 1 kg of electronics. Fits only in the baggiest of pants.

My plan: In a year or so, I'll get the android. I already played with the android SDK and emulator on the netbook, and it's pretty neat to create programs with that, but I would be even neater if the netbook could run the programs natively and have the same touchscreen interface. Only disadvantage to an android netbook would be the lower availability of packages compared to ubuntu etc. Also, the availability of packages might be artificially limited from google's side, I'm unclear on how much lock-in there is.
