    From what is sounds like, the problems of a SSD device warrant a differently designed file system.

    There already exist a number of file system implementations designed specifically flash such as JFFS, JFFS2 and YAFFS. (I'm sure there are others I have not bumped into yet...)

    N.B. There's an IBM Devworks article discussing flash file systems for linux.

    A proper functional spec does describe the problem.

    Or so I'm told, I've never actually seen one.

    I've seen the spectrum of quality... sadly most tend towards the completely useless.

    I find most Slackware users to be the most knowledgeable Linux users I come across usually.

    Because you have to be to get it running and be productive... Slackware is for those who know what their sins are.

    Use a strong root password, DUH.

    The Bears and Elk up in canada cant hold down shift, so using any punctuation in the password will protect the computers from the majority of the animals.

    The beavers however can... bloody hacks.

    An old friend tells a similar one about learning a thing or two about neural nets... they thought it could detect tanks from the air, when in reality it told you if the photo was taken on a clear or cloudy day. Pure myth... but fun nonetheless

    Note how your interesting explanation hasn't been modded up? You should added some 'foam at the mouth' reactionary stuff about the ISPs turning of the interwebs, and possibly a little 'conspiracy theory', in the first paragraph,then you'd have been modded up.

    There's no way that BT's protocol could be as sophisticated as TCP, given its 30+ years of development.

    Most people don't appreciate how amazingly well TCP's flow control works in terms of maximizing link utilization in a way that is fair to all network users. We really don't need is an arms race of new, greedier protocols.

    All you've done here is demonstrate how little you know about UDP and TCP and bittorrent. I have always been rather uncomfortable with at TCP based implementation since UDP should be far more efficient for this application. TCP is just a sign of laziness on the part of the implementor.

    The summary writes that the regulations are making things worse for the consumer. I beg to disagree. Unsafe public transportation is worse than expensive public transportation, and there is a compelling public policy reason for regulating public transportation for safety's sake- regulations that Pickup Pal did not abide by.

    Thank you pointing this out, I was about to do the same. What our cousins to the south are not aware of are the recent events that have led up to this legislation including a rather spectacular traffic accident involving a badly maintained mini-van that was purported to be part of an informal car pool but was in fact nothing other than one of many vehicles run by a black-market bus company.

    Because people want to relate to their president or vice-president. People don't like to feel stupid, and making stupidity the norm is a very effective way of not getting confronted with your own stupidity quite as often.

    (partially tongue in cheek) That seems to be true of republicans, but the democrats and some 52% of voters don't seem to be afraid of electing someone who is clearly smarter than average.

    When I hire someone to do a job I want them to BE qualified.

    But... having dated lawyers in the past I guess I'm not easily intimidated... :-)

    How were they giving it away in the first place? If you go to Sun's website and try to download Star Office normally, it's $70. So how was Google able to give it away for free, and why isn't "sun wanted cash" a possible explanation for Google dropping the product?

    I'm sure most people don't know what the Bush Doctrine, read a paper, or could name a supreme court decision they agreed with, or have any clue about international relations.

    Most people are not running for office. Most people can't handle double entry book-keeping either, but they're not accountants. When I hire someone to develop software I expect a certain amount of professional knowledge, why would you expect less of a President or Vice-President?
