Why should Blizzard care if these are heavy users? Battle.net is a free service, and Blizzard isn't losing any money by banning accounts here. If anything, they stand to make more money from people buying the game again (I've seen it happen before).
Only 11.3 hours a week? Man, kids have gotten so lazy these days. On a good weekend, I used to be able to get in 20+ hours of gameplay, and then there was the rest of the week.
"I'm gonna pistol-whip the next person that says Shenannigans!" "Hey Rod, what's that's restaurant you like that has those cheese sticks?" "You mean Shenannigans?"
That's a shame. I just bought some new CD-Rs too and was looking to try them out.
On the plus side, I hear that Apple gives you a whole bunch of stuff (10.1, 9.2.1, Dev tools) when you order it from them, so $20 is starting to sound a little more reasonable.
I'll never say OS 10. There are several reasons for that.
1) I've been saying OS X since I first heard of it, and it's a bad habit that won't go away.
2) OS X sounds much cooler than OS 10.
3) When I think of X, I think of the X Windowing System, and OS X is the closest thing Apple has right now to it (A/IX doesn't count), so naturally I pronounce the X.
This slashdot account was created way before my current band was, so that explains the absence of it in my signature (and also, maybe, my really bad sig).
For the most part, I try to put my.sig out there, in other forums (especially music related ones), and yes, on flyers. We don't have DAM CDs, but we have our own DIY CDs for sale, linked from our mp3.com page. And, if you want to know, check out http://www.mp3.com/freeclinickelly
And I'm not blaming mp3.com, I think they're great. I'm just laughing at our meager band fund.;)
Wouldn't this mean that the first person (and his heirs) to develop the concept of fairness should be entitled to royalties for your use of their concept?
Okay, I know I deserved that, but you're taking my argument just a little too far. But I guess that is also the point. Take a William Gibson and Neal Stephenson, for example. Obviously, just because Gibson coined 'cyberpunk' and wrote Necromancer, doesn't mean that Stephenson shouldn't be able to write Snow Crash. It does mean that Stephenson can't take the words Gibson used, rearrange them in the same order that Gibson did, and sell that as his own.
A better example would be codecs. I don't like the fact that Sorenson is only available on a few select platforms. The fact that engineers sat down, thought of something that worked, created it, and decided to hang on to it, however, is fine with me. If you think of something that works better, good for you. If you want to sell, even better. If not, so be it.
Mind you, this is all in principle. I'm rooting for the Vorbis crew because they have a free codec, but I wouldn't hold it against them if they charged for it. It's their product after all.
To the person who brought up the point about the Constitution, thanks for the enlightenment. Wouldn't it also be useful to use IP for the influx of new ideas then?
Yeah... the looming issue that has been ignored is that intellectual property is bunk
Nothing to do with Dvorack, but intellectual property is not bunk. If I think of or invent something, I deserve to have the rights to it. It's only fair.
Honestly, I don't see how it's any different than copyright, trademark, or even trade dress.

I want the ThinkGeek.com case. I know I have to cut the hole myself, which is the only thing preventing me from buying it.
You think? Did you read that Ars article on encoding, because they said that Fraunhoffer was the way to go when going good-quality. Of course, I have no experience with this, but I tend to trust the people at Ars.
When I read that Mac OS X was free, I thought you meant that you didn't have to order the public beta for $30 and that Apple had it up on its ftp servers. Oh well, not that it isn't all over hotline and carracho.
Has anyone out there with a Beige G3 AV gotten sound to work under/any/ linux distribution. I've played with LinuxPPC and YellowDog and enjoyed them both, but couldn't get the sound to work at all, and most people I talked to with my setup couldn't either. I loved the linux experience, but I need my mp3s or I'm forced to use MacOS.
Can someone please explain the point of this one to me? Why not just buy Windows from Microsoft? If it's so bad, why are people trying to replicate it exactly?
Please excuse my editorial laugh (ha, ha), but some people just take things too far. Use open-source software and linux, or use Windows (or any other operating system, but that argument doesn't apply here), but why hate an interface just because it's made by people you don't like?
I'm also wondering how this will work without all the proprietary code needed for Windows to run. Anyway.
The original link is dead because it's inaccurate. Might want to correct that.

But I like stats.

I think we all did. I don't think any true slashdot reader wouldn't.
Didn't know they were private. Hope it goes well for them. Great service.

Maybe not you. My mother just called me with the news and now I'm nervous about going to class today.
Mission accomplished, afaic.

$3 a month? It took my band 5 months to earn a measly $3.23 from mp3.com.
I'm sure this has been said before, but do the independent artists not realize that you can turn off the option that lets others download your songs?
Frankly, I want people to download my songs. I thought that was the entire reason behind mp3.com.

Hehe. I didn't even notice the 'dept' humor of this article. Good one, shaggy. ;)
I don't like the way that sounds. Of course, we could just be misinterpreting it, but I'm sure this will come into light more as time goes by.

Wonder how I earned 'Troll' status with that? I was trying to be funny, hence the :-( at the end.
Aww, I missed first post. :-(
I don't know about election day, but the net is lagging for me because registration is going on right now.
