  1. Re:Oh really? on Compressed Beyond Recognition: An MP3 Compendium · · Score: 1

Sigh. I wish people wouldn't lump Eminem into the same category as Britney Spears and the like. The Real Slim Shady is his only pop song right now, and if you heard other songs off The Marshall Mathers LP, you would realize the difference between them and the single (it's a really dark cd) and appreciate his talent.

Note I didn't say you had to like him, but he does have some talent when it comes to rapping.

But don't say things like "Anything that's not microsoft...", as that makes you no better than the people that say creative things like CrApple and Steve "Blow" Jobs.

I'm not flaming anyone, but simply suggesting that you use a product based on its quality, and not its name.

  5. Circuit City == Satan? on Is Netpliance Slamming Customers? · · Score: 2

I've heard plenty of stories about Circuit City being the 10th level of hell. For example, I heard somewhere (was it here?) about a shopper looking for a stereo. He was plugging different components into each other to find a combination he liked, when a clerk comes up to him and says 'Please don't play with the merchandise' in a very condescending tone. Angry, the customer leaves the store and goes to Best Buy where he purchases a $1000+ stereo. He then returns to C.C., asks to see the clerk's manager, shows them both the receipt, and leaves.

And then there's the myth of someone buying an expensive keyboard, getting home with it, and finding nothing but planks of wood in the box. And I bet he was still charged the restocking fee. :P

  6. LinuxPPC, Inc and Jason on Update on Jason Haas Car Accident · · Score: 1

Well, I can't even claim to know the guy, but about a year back, when I first started tinkering with LinuxPPC, we exchanged a few emails and I thought that it was cool that he was taking time to answer them, as well as coding and running the company. I had heard of the accident, but I didn't realize it was that bad. Yikes.

Well, Jason, I'm installing LinuxPPC 2000 as we speak, after seeing the initial preview, and I can tell anyone that the LinuxPPC team has come a long way. This install goes out to you. :)

  7. Re:I hate final fantasy on Final Fantasy Movie Trailers · · Score: 1

I see both of your points, but I would consider your opinions uneducated. You see, I got into Final Fantasy back when it was released for the nintendo. Not many people knew about it at the time, as it was the last hope for a fledgling software company (hence the name), but a friend and I spent all our time together with it until we each beat it. Then II (IV in japan) came out for the SNES, and I was thrilled. The storyline was a bit linear, but it was great to see such a title in 16-bit glory. Then III (VI in japan) came out and it was even better as a flexible storyline was added to those incredible graphics.

Now that the FF series is on the playstation, I don't give it much attention. It seems that being put on a media built for mass storage has turned it into just that - a game with more FMV then there is gameplay. Sure the spells look nice, but do they really have to take several minutes to complete?

It kinda saddens me to think that FFVII and beyond is what the public thinks of the series, not the classic games of lore that I still have fond memories of. I suppose it's great for Square, since many more people are playing it now, just as many more people play Q3:A than people played Q1, but to me it has lost a bit of class.

This is just hit me. There are higher levels than B.A., so why not adjust the scrolls accordingly?

    There should be an:
'Excellent!' on your diploma if you move on after getting your B.A. and receive your Masters.

Then, if you take it further and get your Ph.D. in game design, the scroll should further read: 'Impressive!'.

However, if you fail out of college, you'd simply receive a 'Humiliation!'. How embarrassing that would be, eh?

  9. Did Anyone 'Get' It? on X-Files FPS Episode · · Score: 1

Wow, everyone I've talked to has taken this episode /way/ too seriously. It was supposed to be funny, people. This was obviously one of those episodes where the writers of the real plotline (whatever that is now) was given a break, and a chance to add some much needed comic relief to the series. I mean, there was even a nod to Thresh (that Danny character that got his arms and head sliced off), even if 'Thresh' played a pretty poor round of 1v1. :) And you must admit that Mulder was hilarious in his Morpheous-style glasses and his 'Bring It On' attitude. I'm not a hardcore gamer in any sense, but I was behind this episode all the way.

In other words, just take a few deep breaths and relax. Not everything is meant to be a stab at the hacker culture, and I'm sure your regularly scheduled 'this is the episode that reveals it all' X-files will be back next week.
