I agree. I have a relative who got a 50" Sony plasma, returned it for a 50" Panasonic plasma (better image quality), and then got a second 42" Sony plasma. I've spent considerable time watching both regular broadcast, hdtv cable, and dvd movies on them. =)
My roommate has a 65" Sony HDTV rear projection. I would rather watch movies on that than any of the plasmas any day, hands down.
If you read the actual report, they only say that "the original trilogy is due for release"... they don't specify whether it's a theatrical or DVD release. Knowing Lucas, I wouldn't put it past them to try to milk the original trilogy in the theaters one more time to cap off the prequel trilogy.
Not that most people care, since they don't even bother to vote, right?
Most people don't even bother to click the link to read the article; you think they'd actually get up, leave the house, drive to the voting center, and push some buttons to vote? That's way too much effort involved.

Let me know the Buy-It-Now price, and I'll cut you a check right now.
You don't even need to deliver it - it's fine where it is.
Until a large percentage of TV's start having DVI input, DVI output for consumer grade DVD players (or any other video player) is pointless from the economic standpoint.
In addition, component optical output is already far and away high enough quality to render the need for DVI moot.
The only TV-class displays that I know of which feature DVI inputs are flatpanel LCD and some flatpanel plasma displays... which are far more expensive than I can justify when compared to a comparably priced rear projection or CRT set.
Your points are all somewhat idealistic... it's obvious you haven't yet fallen under the cynical yoke of the real world yet. Let's disabuse them one by one shall we?
A) July 6th is a Sunday... which leaves all of Monday through Friday as "Official Cleanup Week". Last time I checked, M-F didn't fall under "weekend".
Friend 1: You want to go to (theater that has done this) for the movie? But that place sucks, our cell phones don't work in there.
Friend 2: How about (other theater that's just as good and equally close)?
Friend 1: Cool, I'll see you there at 7?
Wouldn't "Unicron" be a better name for something like a planet-sized computer?

Are the DVD's available for pre-order yet? Where can I add myself to the mailing list?
Oh well, I guess one out of two ain't bad.
Tough luck on the beer.
I'd link you to a site explaining humor, but I think it would be a lost cause.
How close to absolute zero would we have to cool a processor so that we could overclock it enough to handle a good slashdotting?
Oh, that's a low blow.
Actually if I had mod points I'd give you +1. =)
You're missing one very importan one:
Those that cannot manage: sue.
I think you meant "Those that cannot manage: SCO.
Actually, I guess it's the same either way, nevermind.
No.
Faster, ever faster!
I've downloaded dozens of songs today alone... to whom do I address my bill for services rendered?

I can't believe that we haven't had the obligatory "I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion" post.
Am I the only one who saw 11.05 and thought "November 2005? NOOOOOOoooo....... oh wait, November 5th."
Can someone explain to me where this style of response came from? Is it based on some article or email that Knuth wrote? I'm serious.
Tell me, Mr. Anderson, what good is a 1.2TB firewire drive if you can't serve any content from it?
You forget, this is Slashdot. Blame of Microsoft is understood to apply whenever possible.

Yes.
(Lucas Arts is even more of a control freak than Sony.)

They sold another copy?
Sure it was funny, but it's also very true.
