    You're correct. I vote we begin rectifying this situation immediately. I'll even agree that I should probably be in the first or second group of people to be purged from slashdot memory and possibly hunted down and permanently encouraged to avoid visiting (or atleast posting on) slashdot. Hopefully, this would bring the remaining slashdot population back to something close to what it should be.

    Jesus I thought for a second there there was a _2600_ toolbar.

    I don't know whether I'd install something like that, or immediately incinerate any computer that became infected with it. Maybe I'd do both and use it as an excuse to replace the machines here.

    Whenever I hear "Dan Brown" I think "Bloody customers can't even remember the author or the title of The DaVinci Code." Then I think "glad I got out of that mindless business" then I think "Dan Brown's work really sucks".

    No, I'd almost rather have nuclear power plant IMBY than a wind farm.

    why almost? With the exception of the traffic through your yard as workers go to and from the plant. a small, self-contained, self-regulating nuclear plant that was completely checked twice a year (or so) sould be a great thing to have in my back yard.

    I heard, 12 minutes before your post, from a friend of a freind of a relative of an Apple Engineer who I made up who happens to be on on of the Mac development teams that the preliminary pre-draft sketches of a possible prototype of a whole new type of powerbook that might end up with tablet-mac features have been mentioned in a closed meeting in a coat closet on the fifth floor.

    We tried that when we got out of ITER, as I recall funding wasn't available, so we got back in to ITER but are putting up next to no money for it.

    Yes, the US could afford to bankroll this whole project but since it has no immediate military use, doesn't make some rich people richer, and might not even be practical for several years (basically, a longer time frame than any politicians will be in office) the politicians won't baknroll it. why would they? if it works it won't work while they're in ofice and so they won't get the political prestige for it.

    that said, I don't care where they build it, who funds it, or who gets to work on it. I just want to see practical man-made fusion generators available within my lifetime. Well that, more space exploration including colonization of other worlds, and time travel. but I'll settle for any one of the three.

    It's still survival of the "good enough" but in a closed biosystem with limited resources the level of "good enough" goes up. "fittest" implies the best possible, while "good enough" is everything that -can- survive in that environment under those conditions, not just those that are the best at it.

    Then again, maybe I'm crazy.
