You're correct. I vote we begin rectifying this situation immediately. I'll even agree that I should probably be in the first or second group of people to be purged from slashdot memory and possibly hunted down and permanently encouraged to avoid visiting (or atleast posting on) slashdot. Hopefully, this would bring the remaining slashdot population back to something close to what it should be.
Jesus I thought for a second there there was a _2600_ toolbar.
I don't know whether I'd install something like that, or immediately incinerate any computer that became infected with it. Maybe I'd do both and use it as an excuse to replace the machines here.
Whenever I hear "Dan Brown" I think "Bloody customers can't even remember the author or the title of The DaVinci Code." Then I think "glad I got out of that mindless business" then I think "Dan Brown's work really sucks".
I read it as "It might be (Integer Variable Named '37') cheaper, it might be (Integer Variable Named '80') cheaper, or it might be (Integer Variable Named '1') cheaper--but we're pretty sure it's cheaper"
I can't tell if you're taking me seriously and calling me an idiot, or taking my comment as a joke... so I'm going to assume joke and call myself an idiot. and no, I don't actually use such a technique for my passwords.
No, I'd almost rather have nuclear power plant IMBY than a wind farm.
why almost? With the exception of the traffic through your yard as workers go to and from the plant. a small, self-contained, self-regulating nuclear plant that was completely checked twice a year (or so) sould be a great thing to have in my back yard.
I heard, 12 minutes before your post, from a friend of a freind of a relative of an Apple Engineer who I made up who happens to be on on of the Mac development teams that the preliminary pre-draft sketches of a possible prototype of a whole new type of powerbook that might end up with tablet-mac features have been mentioned in a closed meeting in a coat closet on the fifth floor.
wow.. how did you guess? I mean besides being psychic (like me, and that's how I know you're psychic).
We tried that when we got out of ITER, as I recall funding wasn't available, so we got back in to ITER but are putting up next to no money for it.
Yes, the US could afford to bankroll this whole project but since it has no immediate military use, doesn't make some rich people richer, and might not even be practical for several years (basically, a longer time frame than any politicians will be in office) the politicians won't baknroll it. why would they? if it works it won't work while they're in ofice and so they won't get the political prestige for it.
that said, I don't care where they build it, who funds it, or who gets to work on it. I just want to see practical man-made fusion generators available within my lifetime. Well that, more space exploration including colonization of other worlds, and time travel. but I'll settle for any one of the three.
Woah man, you used the number 666! That makes you hardcore! Next thing you're going to tell me is the gimp is actually a cover for a super-secret organization working to create cyber demons that can overrun Earth after a portal to hell is accidently opened!
Just what are you implying here? That my minions are incompetent and can only open portals by accident?
...Alpha Centauri Prime is wholly owned by the current head of a monarchy, and as such, it owns everything extending infinitely in all direction from their planet.
Whoa whoa... hold on there. I haven't accepted that my coronation as supreme monarch of Alpha Centauri Prime was entirely proper, and I don't know if I actually wish to be the supreme monarch. I actually don't want to rule, merely subjugate, oppress, and demoralize.
no, it's not a rubber band, it's medium-grit sand paper. a feline delicacy, I can assure you (as 5 of my past 5 cats have gone to great lengths to procure and masticate the stuff).
I'll give you the atom bomb though... I don't like my cocoa _quite_ that hot!
Actually, if you don't want that atom bomb, would you mind giving it to me? I have... pressing experimental research that would be greatly facilitated by the utilization of rapid fission reactions.
Funny how we keep on anthropomorphising what most of you believe is an impersonal process
Aren't you anthropomorphising slashdotters here? You make it seem as though they're actually capable of performing this "believe" action with some sort of purpose or intent.
It's still survival of the "good enough" but in a closed biosystem with limited resources the level of "good enough" goes up. "fittest" implies the best possible, while "good enough" is everything that -can- survive in that environment under those conditions, not just those that are the best at it.
I intended to point out an error in your latest post, but I can't bring myself to do it. consider the error pointed out. Feel free to return the criticism.
and that's intersting becuase at that point all you'd have left is the people with knives, the people with grenades, and the people with flamethrowers. sounds like a game mod of some type.

After that, I usually go on to something else.

I think GW-BASIC rotted my brain.
Were you inadvertently hypnotized by your electricity meter earlier today?

it's just as easy to rot13 the last letter of the first name, and the last initial, then tack a number onto the end of that.

General Mortars? if I gain controlling interest of this munitions company, I could equip my own personal army...

I would Vote D sub 0 (the option right before D, but after C) which reads "All of the below".

Then again, maybe I'm crazy.

2 + 2 = 5
for very large values of 2!
And for very small values of 5
Flames are welcome

Don't tell me you still believe in news?
(note, this is a joke, it's not funny, but that's because my ability to make amusing quips is seriously lacking.)
You do realise, that "skinning" when applied to this real-world thing has a completely different meaning than normal, right?
it could be both. We shall have to send someone back in time into another person's body to find out for sure.
The body of your post pretty much grants the subject the verbosity it deserves.
