It all seems to boil down to familiarity- we don't even think too much about the risks of driving (very familiar to us), but the risks of space travel seem very high (not familiar to us).
It was a tragedy, hopefully we learned from it, and we will continue on ( I hope). Society has always revered our innovators and explorers- that says something about the "human spirit" and our almost insatiable curiosity about what's around us, and that will probably always drive us to "push the envelope", and occasionally tragedies will occur. We have a tendency to "honor" these casualties, but all we can do is learn and keep moving forward or stagnate.
I was always under the assumption that there was a reason for this net thing being referred to as the "information highway"---never have I heard it hyped as the information tollroad.
As a user, if I don't have FULL access/control as root, then I for one am not in any way shape or form buying into being castrated by any of you.
If it comes down to not being able to access the internet, and do my job from a *nix box (ie:Trusted chip), then the online world can go on without me. But until that happens, I will do all in my power and influence to fight this rape of my freedom.

After this is in effect, you won't be able to "do something" with the pc, thus Windows should not crash often.
