Because it is not possible to run an elections campaign without printing materials, broadcasting political ads, etc. It all costs money. Bedsides they were sure of winning.

  9. In the beginning of the 20th century the leftists were literally banned. Such figures as Stalin, Trotsky, etc. were stuck in prisons or penal servitude hopelessly. Nevertheless they resurfaced with a bang.

Even though nowadays those leftists may look ridiculous, in certain conditions such as a massive war, division of society into poor and rich, widespread homelessness, famine, etc. these ideas may again attract a public attention.

At least, the history demonstrates that it is a realistic possibility. Besides, it is proven already that the overeating causes health problems, spending time in a luxurious house as opposite to hiking, running at a stadium, etc. is also problematic. So, perhaps, an investment in helping people in need could be a good insurance against losing everything.

  16. Five - ten years ahead on US Army Walks Back Decision To Ban DJI Drones Ever So Slightly (suasnews.com) · · Score: 3, Interesting

DJI is several years ahead of its competitors, including US companies. In tech industry it is forever.

I see on youtube a lot of videos as in the USA people are fined routinely for flying a tiny quad-copter say in a national park (while one can fly a huge and really loud helicopter there all right). There are enforced bans of tens of miles in radius around large cities, etc.

Instead of creating such obstacles in a negative way, a government in fact could do a lot for the development of this industry. For example create spacious RPAS (UAV) parks were people could come with their unmanned aircraft and pilot freely (perhaps with technical guidance?). Or teach students in schools UAV electronics, aerodynamics, piloting, meaningful regulations, safety.

But instead we see only ban this, ban that. So as a result we see as the US and European civil UAV industry is lagging behind. It is not possible to build a hundred of good quad-copters or fixed-wing civil RPAS. A base, a mass market is necessary for this.

  17. It is not that easy to build a quad-copter which can match the DJI. Even if the US Army builds its own quad-copter it would be build still from components made in China, from the aluminum produced in Russia, plastic made from Iranian oil, etc.

DJI copters are incredibly reliable. I own DJI F450, DJI Phantom 3, Phantom 4 Pro+, and Spark. They all still fly well, and my US EBlade quad is somewhere in a forest, where it dropped from the sky.

The problem is that in the USA there is no base. The FAA produces layers upon layers of regulations, seven hundred pages of them. It forbids any meaningful usage of civil UAVs. And it is not possible to build good aircraft if there is no market.

  18. Newton's second law of motion, F=a*M on After Emissions Scandal, Volkswagen Pledges Charging Stations Across The US (siliconvalley.com) · · Score: 1

VW Golf weights 1300 kg, an SUV weighs 2500 - 3000 kg. This weight is M in the formula F=a*M. F - is the amount of burnt fossil fuel.

No way around this law. The heavier the car the more fuel it burns, the more pollution it produces. It is not possible to burn fossil fuel without producing CO2. The VW Golf burns less fuel than a SUV. Maybe they did something wrong in a paperwork, but VW Golf is still less polluting than a SUV.

I can built such a glider at home from readily available components. Surely the mighty US state is capable to do it too and stop crying constantly "drones, drones,..."

One of the most important weapon is mobility. One does not have to fight stupidly. But even most important are innovative tactics. It is very useful to read historical books about real battles of the past. For example, a Battle of the Trebia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... . Often battles were won not by gun or muscle power alone.

For example, Mikhail Kutuzov did not win a single battle over Napoleon Bonaparte, even had to hold back his young generals constantly, still the Grande Armée disappeared.

In my opinion, one has to be open to all options: fight a frontal battle, move & fight a running battle, use terrain relief, employ allies, etc. Battles are important, they shape the world we live in. And a commander-in-chief genius shall not be underestimated.
