  1. Is Microsoft really the one to give orders? on Microsoft Gives Windows Device Makers Their 2017 Marching Orders (zdnet.com) · · Score: 5, Insightful

Microsoft really should be listening to the device makers, not commanding them. Why is Microsoft still so friggin' arrogant towards its customers (a.k.a., product) and users? Hasn't the Windows 10 fiasco taught them any humility?

  2. ...Surely it would be cheaper for Amazon to just mail the item themselves....

Easy to say, harder to substantiate.

  3. Just because they would -privately- be 'happy' to expand to suit Amazon, doesn't mean they wouldn't try to extract horrible terms from Amazon to be 'encouraged' to do it....Building a competing air cargo service may be a last resort. ...

Nearly all business deals involve negotiations as each side tries to get the best deal for itself. Amazon is/was a large enough customer of Fedex and UPS to get a better deal than most.

    .
I don't think it was a last resort for Amazon. I think Amazon looked at the money it spent on shipping, the plans it has to optimize shipping and warehousing, and said, "we can do that better and with less cost." Amazon will probably have significant warehouse savings once they have more control over their shipping. Along those lines, Fedex and UPS may not have wanted to become so entangled in Amazon's shipping process.

  4. ...straining the capacities and capabilities of its shipping partners, which include FedEx and UPS...

I'm fairly sure that both FedEx and UPS would be more than happy to build out their respective fleet if they knew that Amazon would not leave them hanging, as Amazon apparently is doing.

  5. ...One of the headline features is called MUFFIN interface, a new toolbar design similar to the Microsoft Office Ribbon UI....

    From TFA:

...We’ve told you about the MUFFIN interface project — MUFFIN stands for My User Friendly & Flexible Interface — a fair bit over the past few months, but if you haven’t heard of it it’s a new UI initiative that introduces 4 different layouts for LibreOffice applications, including a Microsoft Ribbon-esque tabbed UI and a slim, simplified, single panel toolbar....

    .
It appears that the new interface will allow the user to use the ribbon-esque interface, a feature for the one or two people who actually like that UI. Muffin also provides other interfaces besides the weird ribbon-esque one, if you prefer a more intuitive UI.

  6. ...Browser makers don't complain about Microsoft Defender because we have tons of empirical data showing that it's the only well behaved AV....

From my viewpoint, it looks as if Apple has abandoned the high-end computer market. The product line has been stagnating.

    .
Of course, leave it to Microsoft to declare itself winning over a competitor that has all but abandoned the particular marketspace.

That's it. That is all the mention of the recipients (aptly a.k.a, "targets") of the advertising. The advertising industry hasn't a clue what the targets of the advertising want with advertising, nor do they seem to care.

    .
The advertising industry seems to think that so long as advertising is presented, it is welcomed. That is wrong, just wrong, on so many levels.

Until the advertising industry fixes that major and fundamental problem with their industry, advertising will be unwelcome.

I dunno about that. I am finding more and more websites where Firefox does not render the page properly. I retry Firefox in safe mode, and there still are problems rendering the page. So I switch to (gasp!) IE, and the page renders fine.

    .
In my experience, it appears that web developers are beginning to abandon Firefox compatibility, probably because of its very low marketshare.
