    I need to protect myself from their security incompetence.

    The websites themselves weren't compromised

    The ads appeared when I visited those websites, therefore it appears the websites are responsible for spreading the malware.

    The A/V companies made the significant strategic error of starting a race to add more and more features to their products, resulting in insecure bloatware that is tasked with monitoring our PCs for malware.

    One A/V product pokes around my network trying to find my router and determine whether or not I have it configured properly? Give me a break. Focus on the reason I purchased the product, and stop surveying my network. If the router settings have changed, then the A/V product failed in its core goal. Why not focus more effort to preventing malware from getting on my PC and less effort in trying to clean up what happens when they fail in that task.

    I used to have a VCR that would use the time in the broadcast signal to set itself.

    The PBS network used to broadcast that reference time signal in their NTSC transmissions. With the change to ATSC for over-the-air TV, PBS probably dropped the time signal.

    The reasons I stay on Windows 7 are (1) it works for my needs, including security, and (2) I don't want Microsoft data harvesting my family.

    If there were a documented way to turn off all the data harvesting in Windows 10 (and have it stay turned-off), I'd have moved to Windows 10 weeks ago.

    Firefox has been removing useful features, such as the ability to customize the UI, and adding useless highly bloated features, such as Pocket.

    It is not necessarily the removal or addition of features, but what features are being added or removed.

    And the problem is that Mozilla is clueless in this area.

    That's a diversion. It's the same coax going into the house, it's the same overall bandwidth on that coax. Comcast is playing with words.

    That's unfair advantage. Especially when companies like Netflix are paying Comcast to get on Comcast's network.

    Then, after a few years, I closed the account. After the account was closed, I lost access to all of the account statements that were online, and I had no paper versions. Fortunately, the broker was able to recover the statements and send me paper copies. But it was a hassle.

    Now I download the pdf statement for my important accounts each month and store them in my archive.

    I say this as somebody who owns and loves BMWs... they suck ass at software.

    They suck at console/entertainment software (e.g., idrive).

    BMW does quite well with car control software (e.g., the all-wheel drive anti-slip software).
