$.4.4 million? So is that like $440k? $400,000.40?

The best part about this is that it's in this week / month's RS. I just got the magazine yesterday and read this article or at least something with the same point. So either they are reprinting articles, or this came up again.

When people complain about CD's with 2 good songs and 10 yucky ones they are talking about popular music, IE: rock, punk, rap, etc.

Boy, is that a broad (and inaccurate) statement. Certainly lots of albums are not full of quality tracks, but to take entire genres and say that the albums *always* contain filler is absurd. I can think of lots of rock, punk and hip hop albums that contain nothing but good tracks from beginning to end.

How exactly is a video game passive entertainment while Second Life is not? Since they both require user interaction to function, you would think they would both be classified as interactive entertainment, wouldn't you say?

Oh, I think the Xbox is a better console, don't get me wrong. The point I was trying to make was that the GTA games were out a full year on the PS2 before they came out on the Xbox, due to exclusivity (I'm not sure if that was the case with GTA:SA, but I think with the others, it was a year). That is why people would be the PS2, so they didn't have to wait...

  6. Re:I don't think I need to tell you... on FFXIII Exclusivity Under Discussion · · Score: 1

The "exclusivity" deal that Sony had with the GTA games is probably the one that sold the most systems. Regardless of what you think of the Final Fantasy series of games, GTA games are famous, and played by all types, gamers and non-gamers alike. Even though they were eventually released on Xbox, I think the year long buffer is more than enough for many people to pick up a PS2 to play it *now*.

If the argument is for low software costs, than Linux obviously blows Apple out of the water on this one, not to mention there is probably a better knowledge base for Linux servers, and they can do all the same things on cheaper hardware.

On the desktop, Apple is beaten by Windows. In the server arena, they are beaten by Linux. Perhaps they should just stick to making computers for 'artists', or whoever it is they are marketing to with those silly commercials.

  8. Re:Um...KnoppMyth? on MythDora — MythTV 0.2 In a Box · · Score: 1

My problem with Knoppmyth is that it automatically installs an SMP kernel, regardless of if you have dual processors/cores or not. I was getting issues with the SMP kernel and ACPI errors, so had to recompile with SMP support disabled, which resolved it.

Aside from that, I'm not exactly sure how MythDora is news (unless it comes with preset schedules for a popular children's program), other than it is some other new specialized distribution that does the exact same thing as another. Knoppmyth will eventually upgrade to 0.20 and then the only difference will be the underlying distribution, and for my money, Debian is far better than Fedora, simply because of how often Fedora is EOL'd.

Having to cater to these folks in web design is a pain in the ass, but is necessary due to the amount of people that use that browser.

Just as non-standard browsers are stupid, so are non-standard designers. This is one of the VERY FEW things that there are where there is actually a defined and accepted standard (that of the W3C). IMO, Microsoft is just being lazy here, or selfish.

They want to define everything in their terms, when in fact, this is not something they invented. They should make the browser work "correctly".

When I saw this was posted, I quickly did a find for "CSS", and was upset. I've been doing alot of CSS based layouts lately, and I've had to make a stylesheet that only works in IE so that people that are still living in the days of cavemen can see the page (somewhat) correctly. Since when has being lazy been an acceptable reason for stifling progress?

Movies have gotten so bad that I can't even bring myself to waste the bandwidth to download them. In 2004, I would say there were maybe five good movies that I watched, out of maybe 50 total viewed.

The fact of the matter is, movies aren't worth paying $8-10 to see. In very few cases does a movie look good enough to plunk down that kind of dough to sit in a theatre full of screaming babies and popcorn-crunching patrons.

The MPAA (and RIAA for that matter) need to realize that people are all for the simplicity of downloading movies/music/etc. Make it legal, provide the services yourselves of first run movies, and make it cheaper then going to the theatre. Instead of trying to stop file sharing, harness the power that it provides.

I bought a PS2 to play GTA3. If I were going to buy a handheld, this would be a great reason to do so. Nintendo is the undisputed king of first party games, I fully believe that. However, after you get through that, what do you have?

The fact of the matter is, Sony has perhaps THE best license in gaming with the GTA series. Those games are good enough so that buying a system solely to play them is worthwhile.
