  1. Re:more needs to be done on $1 Billion Awarded in Lawsuit Against Spammers · · Score: 1

The IP assignment teams like ARIN/APNIC/RIPE etc need to have more powers to stop spammers. There are clauses in many of the agreements that people sign to get an assignment of IPs. so why dont they use that in revoking IPs for people that have problems? There are ways to do it but as always its a joint effort from everyone. otherwise its too little too late.

The real problem is that more people need to make a bigger effort against spam. The US fines and stuff imposed on spammers doesnt really make that much of a difference to SPAM world wide. The majority of my spam is now non-us based for the first time in years. What can we do.. stop routing to those ISPs that have problems. revoke entire ranges of IPs. it will work.. make everyone on that ISP suffer will make the ISP change thier policy very very fast.

It took months longer than what it should have because we needed to send the code back to be commented as a part of the requirements. The communications between the different groups / teams often became the biggest problem. Many where ultra educated with clearly no experience and would only write text book code.

At the end of the day when you click on the start button in windows or the K icon in KDE does it come up and say.. patent pending or patent xyz... nope.. and really at the end of the day can joe-programmer at home really afford to waste hundreds of hours covering his arse in the long term?. Software patents benefit profits for the big boys in town and the rest of the industry suffers. Both sides have valid arguments and having a good quality license system will benefit everyone if thats the way it has to go.. in the end software patents should be maximum 5years anyway as the industry moves so fast 5years makes or breaks most companies. .

Taking into account that Redhat and linux in general has come along long way especially since the introduction of the 2.6 kernel series. Its still not as industry prooven and its support policies at an enterprise level are often more than c*ap. We have several hundred *nix *bsd and linux of various breeds.. At the end of the day we pay for our Enterprise linux subscription and the only godo thing about that is rhn. but enen that has heavy limitations. Especially when trying to run with Redhat and Dell hardware or VIA motherboard IDE chipsets. Often requiring special kernel compiles etc to make it work correctly. I personally if it was my choice would remove all redhat systems from our business and replace them with other flavors of linux. Basing this move on a) way over grown dependancies that clog everything up. b) shit performance at the top end. Requires heavy modifications to get it to really perform. possibly due to the huge amount of dependancies and large binarys running. c) support from redhat is crap we support all our own systems in house and have at least 20 high quality unix / linux system administrators. We dont have issues except when we want to get BUGS FIXED. Releasing a bugzilla can take months for what we would classify as critical bugs. With our sun support contract those bugs are often fixed fairly fast or advised how to make the work around to resolve issues. Im not saying that linux is a crap OS im just saying that Redhats Business model needs alot of improving before becoming what they see themselves as being. Clearly both redhat and sun see themselves through rose colored glasses.
