Apple didn't fail in the 90's because they sold hardware and software, they failed because their products sucked and they didn't keep up with the pack. In fact, their "closed-technology stack" is probably what kept them alive long enough to get OS-X and the iPod out the door.
For my degree I had to take a year of discrete and and two terms of linear algebra. I thought they were very relevant. I also had to take calc, of course, and I've never had to use it since and have forgotten it all anyway.:D
tells Universal to fuck themselves if they try to bring this to the bargaining table. Just rip them out of the iTunes store, I don't care. My only interest in that store is the TV shows and movies.
The fact that in many (most?) states you can request an absentee ballot takes the wind out of that argument. In Maryland my boss can fire me if I don't request an absentee and fill it out as he wishes. But that's a felony, for just one little vote, so the risks far outweigh the benefits. I'm in Oregon and I have to say that it's VERY nice to know that although I'm not a citizen, all the voters around me are casting votes that will actually count.
This has been hosted on there for several days now. "Dugg" to the front page I think yesterday or the day before. Seems like the kind of copywrite violation that would normally get wiped after a day or so, tops. HBO and Google are doing a great service by dragging their feet for a couple days on this one.
I couldn't remember if the number was 300,000 or 30,000 and didn't really have time to look it up right then, so I took my lower guess just to make sure I didn't give any hawks ammo. Thanks for the correction, it's an important one.
I'm against only counting American lives lost. It's so easy to slap the label of "Iraqi" on somebody and not worry about it (as much) because they were "supposed" to die. In my book, lives lost are fellow human beings who are now dead, and the decision to invade Iraq has resulted in tens of thousands of casualties.
It's very heartening to hear someone talk like that. Most people just vote from the gut, Colbert style. You may not have all the information you would like, but at least you're trying.
I'm hoping people will get pissed at the new menu locations and switch to something laid out more like IE6: Firefox, for instance.:D
My gf has been using Open Office and I tried out pages for a couple days: she hated it because it was nothing like what Microsoft Office has gotten her used to. Microsoft is fighting themselves with this new interface.
There's only so many ways to decode a digital signal, mainly one. It can be equalized differently for different players, but you would never confuse bass or volume for sound quality, right?
Orange juice: 3.39 grams of sugar per fl oz Coke: 3.22 grams of sugar per fl oz
You're better off drinking the cola. I love how people think that fruit juice is healthy. Fruit is healthy, but stripping the sugar out of 10 oranges and drinking it with breakfast is not.
Should I really need to evaluate the ethics of of every company I purchase from? Isn't that why we have a government? What if I buy something from a private party? Should I hire a private investigator to dig up dirt on them first, or is it safe to assume that if they have committed a crime they would be in jail and not doing business with me?
So you proudly tell everyone you can that you run Linux and you screw up copying a geeky phrase off a t-shirt because you don't actually know what it means? Is this Digg?
Exactly. Talk to any iPod owner and ask them if they'd like a player that can wirelessly share one promo song from an album they purchased online for three listens and they'll laugh at you. That's the difference with Apple. They think long and hard before they add a "feature" to a product. Other companies just throw everything they can at the wall in the hopes that something will stick.
My favorite: X-Fry: They're great! They're like sex except I'm having them.

iTunes has a huge selection of audio books.
Well, in order to do a good pump-n-dump you'll need the enlargement pills.

I'm sure Pixar is pissed that processors keep get faster.

Once Spanning Sync is released, they will be able to completely replace .mac for me, and for free.

No it's not, it's a phrase.

I would like AMD to win out because of a better product, not because of an Intel lawsuit.
Actually, Apple's AAC encoder is right up there with all the other modern audio codecs, above Vorbis, though statistically tied: http://www.rjamorim.com/test/128extension/results. html
They say they have "enough" circumstantial evendence to make an arrest. That's a long way from what you need to get a conviction.

Hey, Safari is at like 4% or so for our webpages, and the internet in general, I thought.
I say, if they fit, throw 'em on there; it can't hurt. And if someone writes a compiler for it, we win. RISC is dead. :D
