You don't pay any extra that you can see. It is most likely a charge within your dorm fee. It's not so much that you don't pay extra for using them, it's more that you don't pay any less for not using them.
I've heard about this more and more lately, people are using camera phones to steal credit information. Think about it, if someone behind you were using a phone you wouldn't think twice about it, its just another person on a phone. They could secretly be taking a picture of your card.
The problem is not completely ignored. Firefox will tell you you are one the way to a fake site. I don't know if any other browser does this, but it is progress.
I learned a trick for myself. I write "ASK FOR ID" on the back of all my credit/debit cards
Another thing that is important to mention is that you should never leave your cards unsigned. I work retail and there are a good percentage of people who leave thier cards insigned so that way people will check thier ID. The bad thing about this is that someone could easily pick the card up and sign the cardholders name on the back. This dosn't even occur to those who refuse to sign.
It is amazing whay you can get away with before someone will check your card.
If the banks sent more statements, thier would be more pieces of physical information. This would be more account numbers in the mail and in the trash.
I rember hearing a story in Sunday school once that is quite simular to this. There were all these noblemen donating tons of money to the church. A poor woman walks by and gives about two cents. While the noblemen scoff at her because of her "megar" donation. The priest then points out that it was thier donation that was "megar" because they only gave a little of what they have, while she gave all of what they have. My point is, yes Bill Gates gave a great donation. However, it is still only a small part of his money.
Regardless on weather you like Microsoft or not, you have to admit this is great. But about the Linux community matching, maybe the same percentage of thier profits would be possible. The truth is however, that these are two completely diffrent situations.
This type of thing only makes it more likely for women not to succeed in science or math. It's all in the self-fulfilling prophecy or Pygmalion theory devloped by Stumpt and Pfungst, which says the more you are told something, the more you believe it. Therefore, by telling women all the time they can't be good in science or math, they won't be.
afterall, Disney still bases most of its sucess on old characters (Mickey, Donald) opting not to create the new. EA is doing the same with their games (Prince of Persia, Medal of Honour, Need for Speed, SIMS.....).
Not to mention all the sports games. Add a player or two and re-release it.
This could end up being bad. If it expands enough it could reconize people's faces. Imagine some creep at the mall taking pictures of girls with his camera and uploading the picture and being able to find them by a blog or school database.
I'm kind of offended by that. I hate the Sims. I'd rather play a good game of UT2004 or Halo2. I'd rather see a show about girls who are trying to get into male dominated careers such as sys admn and such.
I agree, or girl's who have been into technology since they were kids. I don't really consider blogging as a "geek life" trait though. It has become the "flavor of the week." My little brother's high school had an article in the school paper on blogging. If you read some, it says "I did this because it is kewl." When I first read the title "Girls Gone Wired" I was excited because I thought it would be something for girl's like me. Then again, if they had a show specificly for girls like that, it could easily bring about more stereotypes. I could just see it now "My iPod mini is pink, isn't it so cute?"
Several people who are ignorant on the topic. My brother for example. He wouldn't belevie me when I told him that cyber-criminals just wern't targeting firefox...yet.
I don't know how many times I've been sitting in one of my classes (other than my CS classes of course;-)) and instead of paying attention in class I was using the school's wi-fi to surf the web.
Get ready to downgrade when you get to college. A large TV and surround sound don't fit well in a dorm.

Yay Sienfield.
True. I've just had customers come in and swear they know someone it's happened to. Then again, thats like every other urban legend.
I agree, the last four digits (like what are on recipts) would be more than enough.

You said what I was trying to in a much better way. I am one of those atheists by the way, I can still reconize a jem though ;)
Give me a break, it's early.

Yeah, that exactly what I think.

A "virtual" reality TV show? How desperate for entertainment are we?
If you read the article, they say "When there's just two of you, you can't stay in one room all day."

Even those shows arn't nearly what they used to be. TSS just simply isn't good without Leo.
