    That's nice.

The study picked 50k people who each average 2 or more calls per hour for a six month period and make at least one call for every hour of the week. That's a lot of calls.

If anything, the main criticism should be that people who make that many calls are not a representative population...

Well, I think it's fair that AT&T should build more god damn capacity if they are experiencing outages! Honestly, they charge through the nose for text messages, text, and then expect us to not use features we want because they don't want to build more capacity. Unconscionable.

we just haven't the computing power, nor information, to make such predictions.

This is a pretty severe misunderstanding. A truly chaotic system will eventually diverge from your predictions, no matter how accurate your knowledge. More accuracy means your predictions remain valid for longer, but not forever.

If infinite information existed (infinite precision numbers for example) then maybe, but I have a feeling that Heisenberg will come along to put the kibosh on those dreams...

I came this close to driving to an apple store (or AT&T) and getting an iphone today. I was able to restrain myself, barely, due to reticence over breaking my verizon contract, as well as all the rumors of a 3G iphone.

I'm very skeptical of a 3G iphone being introduced with iphone 2.0 in June, or even announced, because that will detract from the new software. I doubt Apple will ever ambush us with new iphones like they do with everything else, since the FCC has to vet everything and they don't want people renewing their contracts right beforehand. But it may still drop in 2008. What do you guys think?

So right now I'm waiting for 3G or my contract expiration, whatever comes first, but damn it's hard...
