And the money goes to such laudable causes as ensuring that every school in every corner of the world uses Windows and to religous right think tanks like the Disvocery Institute (the nr. 1 promoter of "Intelligent Design").
First of all, the writing is less than stellar. Second, all of it is opinion based without any sort of facts to back it up, or in depth explanation of his point.
Sounds like most of the comments on Slashdot attacking Microsoft.
For example - you're saying that the Apple II single handedly created the market for personal computers? And that's insightful?
Please, hatred of Microsoft aside, for 90% of people Windows PCs brought the PC into the average household.
The Agile Manifesto has been around for a while and is generally followed by good programmers.
Wrong and wrong.
It's only been around since August 2001. We knew how to deliver quality software well before that.
And there's no way that "Agile"(c) methods are "generally followed by good programmers". No way in hell. You clearly have fully consumed the Kool-Aid, buzzwords and all. That's fine for you, but stop speaking for "good programmers" in general. We don't appreciate it.
You should read http://www.sdmagazine.com/documents/s=825/sdm0208j/ this manifesto.
At random my ass.
I invite every shopper to compare any Best Buy price to newegg.com. On anything. Newegg will generally beat Best Buy on any hard drive, optical drive, usb drive, DVD R media, CD media, monitor, printer,... but I digress.
And Newegg is not unbeatable either. Zipzoomfly.com beats them sometimes. Rima.com beats them sometimes. Best Buy is last in line, folks.

Wouldn't using a flash USB key make a lot more sense? Or am I missing something here?
Yes.
In spite of all the posters saying nothing will boot from USB, it is in fact quite common on even low cost motherboards these days.
"You can collect 'em, enlarge 'em, download 'em, print 'em and hang 'em on your wall at home. All are free, unless, of course, you plan to make money on them yourself. (Permission is required.)"
People who think 'everything was fixed in the eighties' are also out of touch. They often fail to recognize this, however.
Perhaps I should have said "any older encyclopedia" instead of "before the eighties". I shouldn't have used a specific timeframe to illustrate my point. My point was that prevaling points of view change over time and it can be eye-opening to read older texts to see what passed as "fact" at the time. And that these changes are not isolated to specific countries (the parent noted Poland).
By the way, I never said "everything was fixed in the eighties" and no one else did either.
You mean besides the fact that the binaries were removed as soon as they found out?
Yeah Microsoft would never stop knowingly distributing a virus.
Jesus Christ.
a 103 minute parody of Star Trek and Babylon 5
How Timely.
Contrary to popular belief, optical mice do not use lasers.
Well this one does. If you had read the article you'd know that.

Link?
Release it under the GPL or not release that code.
... so ... viral, right?
I'm seriously not trolling here: how is that not viral? If you release the code you are forced to use the GPL

Isn't that the same type ofalien who piloted the Falcon when Solo was away?
That was Billy Dee Williams.
An anonymous coward spat:
Is this after rebates? This is what the discussion is about.(sic)
Yes, one can find merchandise online that is cheaper WITHOUT rebates than Best Buy products WITH rebates. Without trying very hard.
If i can confirm this, i will submit a slashdot story.
Please do, mister Geek Squad!!!
PUKE WRETTTTTTTTTTTTTCH.

Additional "+5 Informative" comments could potentially be appended to the article ...
If something has been modded +5 Informative, that does not neccessarily mean that it is correct.
Also, you can change your viewing preferences to ignore "Funny" and "Insightful" moderations if you want.
Honestly - take your anti-American wannabe terrorist bullshit and go fuck yourself.
But even more honestly - nobody in America has a favorite soccer player.
...please, someone tell me how to think!!!!
Around here, someone will.

American encyclopedias from before the eighties are also "out-of-touch". Check out any potentially controvesial subject next time you're in a library.
Right ... but at least the information in Encarta has been fact checked.
