No, I must be a different guy. You are the one in the minority.
Are you going to tell me that X can display windows across the network? Windows XP does that better already.
Oh and by the way, I've never met you, but I'll bet I've contributed more to the open source code base than you have. I dont need to brag about it by asking people to "code it themselves" when a problem comes up.
People will decide to switch systems on the basis of the available productivity tools. I challenge anyone to want to stick with MSOffice bloatware after a little experience with the latest OpenOffice- slick, fast, and a lot cheaper!
Once people realize that OpenOffice is there, they will want a good desktop system to go with it - and thats where Gnome will step up to the plate.
Gnome looks great - no argument there. It's weakness is that it runs on X.
Almost every complaint I see about Gnome, (speed, flickering, hangs, etc) is almost always traced back to an issue with the underlying graphics system, X. I understand that the developers are kind of hamstrung by having to use X because its to much effort to code a replacement but it is a shame.
Its been a while since I looked at the Gnome codebase but I wonder if it could be easily ported to another lowlevel architecture if gtk and gdk were. Anyone care to inform ?
must be rejeted. activeX is, aside from the security concerns, well designed and useful. sites aren't using it just because "microsoft made them".
ok, so the security is a serious issue, but ms will likely find a way around it and release a better version. and then, i think firefox will have to bite the bullet and accept it as a web standard.
As I have posted elsewhere in this thread, clockless design was an idea from long ago which was put on the backburner until the problems you mention were solvable.
Also, both of those difficulties appear as you increase clockspeed in traditional designs. Certainly they are huge issues at the 4GHz level.
The very first CPUs were designed without a clock. However the introduction of a clock made motherboard design far simpler, at the expense of flexibility on the chip itself. Now that technology has progressed forward as much as it has, the original clock-less type cpu design is more viable.
I for once am glad to be rid of our GHz-overlords.
You may find detailed instructions on how to do this and not get caught on google. I won't post the search terms here - they are not quite so obvious, and they don't include "barcode" - but you will get them with a little thought.
These guys may have been caught, but I promise you, this is a huge underground industry.
My understanding of the Kazaa program is limited however i think you must search for the sexually implicit materials. So if you know that your email will be also illegal you must either not search for those particular emails to read them or report the matter forthwith. Noone is trying to trick you to download eillgal images from the net, you know APRIORI it may contain illegal material. So your defence is "I COULD NOT KNOW" is demosntratably false.
He stated that he frequently found illegal materials in his downloads. Legally it follows he had an expectation that when downloading pornographicical images some of said images are illegal. He had not STOPPED as you claim but continued even though deleted some images.
Therefore its clear that he knew that this activity in the future would likely mean the downloading of the illegal images, how can you claim that it is otherwise than illegal behaviour? If he wants to find the legal pictures of his country, that is fine but that IS NOT what he resultantly did.
If you have expectation of download such items, then you should not be using the network. I cannot be sympatehetic even if you deleted immediately. Your ignorance promotes such usage.
Most of us find this very interesting and not annoying or obvious at all. I suggest you go back to IRC if slashdot is not to your taste. Let the rest of us build this community website.
What is your point, that because you drink your opinion is more valuable or has insight that I dont? I tell you I have drunk many times, now I see the wrong action of it. I pray you will too. As you celebrate the birth of the savior reflect on this please.
What has Norwegian to do with this problem? Its a worldwide issue. And I apologize sir, if you are offended but you offenze is minor compared to the millions of deaths caused by your "resoonsible" consumption.
I'm guessing you know nothing about either Java or X. So stay out of the thread.
Not fix. Hide. You'll just see them less often.
That is the "mass-market".

They aren't fixing it. They are changing it, within its already fixed parameters.

I don't condone it, however.
Sir please read my response to the other gentleman who replied. THank you.

Alright then, I do understand. However please try to keep posts on topic in future. We want the signal to noise ratio high.

Hi please email me, I can give you discount holiday rates, not just Java but all your Unix requirements.
US space scientists are better paid in private industry these days.
How is it that a post beginning "I have no clue" can be insightful?
But one has to ask: Why didnt the original article poster (Hobadee) investigate what product would have suited his mother's needs better?
As they say a problem avoided is a problem solved, that is the geek way.
Thank you I couldnt have put it better myself.
