You can't hang a DLP on a wall. LCD has no burn-in, and neither do plasmas if you don't use them as airport schedule displays or something else retarded like that.
You mean something "retarded" like watching standard def broadcasts (i.e. basically anything except for the big networks?) pillarboxed because you don't want to distort the image? That was the deal-breaker for me when I was shopping around.
For what it's worth, I don't think the trailers do any justice to the Firefly universe (In fact, I'd say that I absolutely hate how dumbed down they are).
There's was a LOT more subtlety in the series that absolutely doesn't/can't come across in a 1-2 minute piece.
and it was projected (in fall 2004) that by the end of that year, 43% of U.S. households would have broadband, according to the FCC and research group IDC
Not to nitpick, but (from the article you linked to) that's 43% of internet-enabled households that will have broadband in the U.S. Not 43% of ALL households. That's a big difference.
I think a lot of people would be surprised at how little tuition figures into covering the operating budget of a university.
Take the large public research university that I work for with a total annual operating budget of approximately $2.6 billion.
$1.2 billion comes from the university associated hospitals and medical facilities.
$1 billion comes from government sponsored research grants
~$200 million from other sources, including the state
~$200 million from tuition (i.e. ~7%)
So you can imagine the theoretical impact of a 10% decrease in grant money. That gap ain't going to be filled by the state.
The propellant mixture in each SRB motor consists of ammonium perchlorate (oxidizer, 69.6 percent by weight), aluminum (fuel, 16 percent), iron oxide (a catalyst, 0.4 percent), a polymer (a binder that holds the mixture together, 12.04 percent), and an epoxy curing agent (1.96 percent).
This is - of course - tres cool. I envy Lucas and his minions who are going to work there. I'd like to work in such a facility. Being a 3D Animator is hard work but I figure it would be very rewarding. Imagine something like "Yeah, I did the Shading on the Podrace" or "Yepp, T-Rex. He's mine." - Neat.
Amusingly enough, a friend of mine can claim both of those things (Though, he was a TD and not an animator). Not as amusing was his disillusionment after working there for 5 years. He decided it was time to leave when he was setting up space battle sequences in episode 2 and a little bored. That combined with the drop in company morale (ILM was laying off their old school practical effects guys and everyone got shafted on their bonuses post-ep 2) pushed him away.
He's since moved on to Weta and is much happier. I'm sure the NZ beaches help.
I'd be willing to wager that they're going to be aggressive and price it in the sub-$300 range.
They can't target the 18-25 year olds watching MTV and set it at a price point much higher than that. I have a decent paying job and I'd scoff at paying 500 bucks, never mind a student.
Speaking of MTV.. It felt really weird watching it last night. I can't remember the last time I tuned in.
Apparently, based on comments of people who went to the preview screenings, there IS sound.
Ahh, good ole' studio execs...
Bah... 2007 will be the year that matters

I'll wait for the 25th anniversary of Robotron before I celebrate.
Maybe I'll finally be able to convince my wife that my vintage full-sized machines are actually collectables and worth the rec room floorspace that they eat up.
They'll keep improving this stuff until we're all wearing XHDTV contacts or retinal implants or having our video directly beamed to the pleasure center ^W^W visual cortex.
Agreed. That's when a shift will be made to improve on mop and wetvac technology
Hmm... Someone scored low on the "humor recognition" portion of the test.

She, or others associated with feedforall.com, have a history of posting articles like this one that indirectly shill their services.

I currently have the theme song to the massively underappreciated Mighty Orbots myself.
I'm guessing that Slashdot might be one of the only places where people actually might know what the hell I'm talking about.
The Samsung DVD-HD841 does NOT have an HDMI output (I wish it did), only a DVI out.
The 12% refers to the percentage of TVs and NOT viewers. A large number of TVs belong to homes that have multiple sets and ARE cable/dish subscribers.

oops... me = pot
*redirects sarcasm at self*
In addition to humor, grammar and spelling are obviously your forte.
They'll be fine, as long as they don't cross the streams.

Actually, I think that it's Melinda's pet name for Bill.
I'm sure "honeymonkey" is a euphemism for something. I'm just not sure what. You dirty honeymonkey.

Lucas is going to be remembered most for what he brought to the areas of special effects and theater sound installations (his THX thingy).
And of course, THX can be credited to Tom Holman (the OTHER reason why the "TH" is in "THX", as in "Tom Holman's eXperiment")

1. We are only around for a hundred years or so
;)
2. Did I miss something when I studied physics?
Maybe?
Yes, religions tend to kill people a lot. But they're also capable of change. Where do you think the word "Protestant" came from?
Note that Catholicism didn't actually change. People just got fed up and did their own thing.
