    This is horrible advice. Giving up something you really love doing because the partner doesn't like it sows the seeds of resentment. OP needs to find a technical solution to the noise issue so he can still play and she can get relief from the computer noise.

    Gearscore is only one of the requirements. Most of the time, pug ICC raids ask not for just gearscore but achievements too. So, often, even if someone has read up and is prepared, they don't get invited because they haven't already done it once.

    We get it. You're an expert on Snell's law. Good for you. The reality is, however, that 65ft is a reasonable restriction, even if someone can't get every shot they want to get. These kinds of restrictions are in place all the time, in situations where efforts may be hampered or pose a danger to bystanders. For example, accident scenes and fires. The police will keep you a reasonable distance away from stuff like that.

    Contrary to popular opinion, Windows/PC users aren't all thieves. I'd be happy to be able to purchase an x86 version of OSX.

    The failure of Olympus to write and distribute proper drivers for your camera are hardly the fault of Linux or any other OS for that matter. The failure of Linux to make any substantial gains in the home desktop market provides little incentive for Olympus to produce said drivers.

    Desktop in this context means "clueless users who want it to do what they think they want" No, it doesn't mean a clueless user. It just means someone who doesn't want to tinker with stuff and just wants to run their applications. And on that last point, Linux fails the desktop test for me. Linux will simply will not run the applications that I use. Wake me up when Adobe Creative Suite runs natively on Linux.

    The only reason these "young people" are all amped up to go to a bookstore at midnight is because their parents spoil them.

    Sure, some parents spoil their kids, but lots of kids love the HP books and there's nothing wrong with it being a bit of an event when a new book comes out.

    It's summer and if they stay up late one night, what's the problem.

    And for crying out loud, they're excited about a _book_. You know something to occupy them than the TV, video games or the computer.

    No wonder the people I know that limit their kid's TV time to one hour MAXIMUM a day (and that includes video games) have normal, well-adjusted, intelligent kids who perform above average in all of their studies.

    Which of course has fuck-all to do with the topic at hand. Besides, there are plenty of kids that fit that description that don't have that type of rule to follow.

    That's easy: The best graphic design and archetecture software out there (the pro-level stuff, anyway) is mostly Macintosh-based. They are using the right tool for the job.

    That's hardly true today. Pretty much all of the heavy hitter software has version for both PC and Mac platforms.

    The problem is that Windows reminds the user over and over again. And if you happen to be away from your computer for lunch or something, it'll reboot for you, after a timeout.

    It wouldn't be hard to have the option for "remind me in [some time period]"

    Here's a reality check: There are lots of applications that people use every day that don't run on Linux.

    I'll use Linux as my primary desktop when Photoshop CS, Nikon View and a whole lot of other apps run _natively_ on Linux.

    It's axiomatic that you pick the OS based on the applications that you need to run. Only fanboys believe otherwise.
