There are highly vocal people who are on both sides of the political divide. And people who don't like Bush have no corner on the abuse market.
Pot meet kettle.
"I bought it for more than just some childish idea that I can remove the revenue stream that brought me the show I want to watch without repercussions."
I think you'll find that most TIVO owners will (obviously) agree that there's more to TIVO than skipping commericals. At the same time, however, one of the key features is the ability to skip the commercials. Perhaps you're happy with being saddled with an ad, but some of us aren't.
" TiVo has always positioned themselves as wanting to change the way the ads were delivered."
Where ya got that from, I don't know. I've been a tivo owner for a long time now and I don't recall any of that.
For someone such as yourself, there may not be any advantage. But for people who haven't learned how to burn under Linux or are already familiar with Nero
there are advantages.
The problem is that it's being met with disdain.
Sometimes I wonder if (some) Linux supporters really want Linux to move out of it's current niche-ish arena.
Nero is a good product. People who already know how to use it, will apparently not have a problem using it on Linux. That one fewer barrier.
I will disagree with this. If your in a position where you need to fire employees as a method to meet your obligation as a CEO of a publically traded company (maximize profits) then why shouldn't you be compensated for making these tough choices?
Even accepting your assertion, the same CEO should be penalized for screwing the company up.
"but most professional graphic designers have bitchin' systems anyways"
That's your argument as to why it's "acceptable" to run Photoshop using (what I'd guess is) an emulator?
Here's a clue: Many people who use photoshop aren't graphic designers with "bitchin'" systems.
Linux does not run 3ds Max or Photoshop
The answer you'll get for photoshop is "use GIMP".
The answer I want is "here ya go, Mr. Sundog, Photoshops CS for Linux".
"but will assert it being true that many Dell OEM..."
I certainly had no problem when I install SP2 on my Dell preinstalled XP home.
re: Linux
Sometimes the linux crowd cracks me up. Some folks just dont get it that linux is not the answer for everyone. Oh sure, I hear about all of the "alternatives" to software that runs on Windows, but until the actual Windows based products I use can run natively on Linux, a linux box would just be a space heater or a doorstop to me.

Not only do the giant golden parachutes p*ss me off, it galls me that CEOs who fail will find another CEO position to screw up.
IMO, Palmer's job was to make DEC an attractive take over/merger candidate. In that particular aspect, he was quite successful. ;-(
Isn't rhapsody content DRM protected?
I didn't know that the three people who watched Enterprise could afford a full page ad.
Divx was the first thing I thought of when I heard about this Napters cluster f*ck. And we all know how well Divx fared.
