I don't think it's just the sheep mentality for everyone. I used Vista for over a year and finally downgraded back to XP, so I think I gave it a fair chance. I could never get my Wacom tablet to work properly and sometimes my mouse would just stop working for no reason and then I would get driver errors. The only fix I could find was a reboot, so I would have to tab through all my apps and save everything via keyboard. Both my work computer and laptop are very fast and it happened on both of them. When running Photoshop, Dreamweaver and a load of other apps it would sometimes literally slow to a crawl. I had random problems on both computers. At work one of my duel monitors would randomly flick off for 3 seconds and flick back on. Has never happened on XP. One time on the home computer I logged in and it took about 5 minutes and created a new desktop for me saying it could not log into my profile. A power down brought back up the old desktop. These are not small issues, having your monitor flick off, mouse not work or complete loss of your use profile is not a small thing. I am a power user and use my computer constantly. Since I have gone back to XP things have been a lot smoother. At my work several other people have also reverted to XP, and this is after 6 months to a year of Vista usage. I think a lot of people who are not having problems with vista are either lucky or are not power users, because I have heard countless issues in my work place.

I also find once you have had an RSI like carpal tunnel you notice the signs right away and correct your posture before it's too late.

If life is so extremely rare and unique then there's a good chance that it will be entirely different on another world. And you are right much of todays science fiction is heavily researched, but this is not always the case, especially in the past, and if the universe is infinite or there are multiple universes, then there is an infinite chance of life existing, and I guess vice versa, and just because we can't duplicate life means absolutely nothing. I find it hard to believe that we are the only intellegent life in the entire Universe, but of course we use to think the Sun rotated around the Earth and that we were the centre of the Universe, some of us still do believe in the later, and yes it is possible that we are the only life in the Universe, but I find it easier to believe if life exists here it probably exist elsewhere.

I mean with that mentality we can just give up on law and order. "Oh he was walking where he shouldn't have, too bad" As a civil society we have the right to walk where ever we please in a public place with the expectation of not being assaulted or mugged. As soon as we start blaming the victim we have a serious problem.

Sorry, but this is BS, I had very severe RSI for awhile. It got to the point where I could hardly hold a glass of water without shaking, and it was extremely painful. RSI will also cause depression for obvious reasons. I am a computer enthusiast, I love my job, and I love computers, design and and gaming. I really don't think anyone can understand RSI unless they have had it. It seems too trivial from a non-suffers point of view. I remember having a teacher warn me about it 10 years ago, and I laughed it off with others.

RSI will not effect everyone, just like many diseases and viruses do not effect everyone, but when it does it can become a very serious situation, and the problem is it is not taken serious by the general public. This is partly why you feel so helpless when you have a severe RSI. Usually you are in a repetitive job, like IT or Design. Your productivity slows down greatly, you are in constant pain, and day to day life becomes a chore. I know I am sounding dramatic, but it can be this bad, and I have total sympathy for anyone suffering from it. There are varying degrees and types or RSI's too.

The good news is most people can overcome it to a degree. I still get pain now and then, but no where near what I was suffering from two years ago. Stress can be a major factor and was partly to blame in my case, but it is not always the case, many other things, like a cold working environment, or bad posture. Its far easier to get it then get rid of it. I read a lot on RSI's, and most of the stories went like this. (Started feeling a bit of pain one week. Ignored it. Got worse the next week. Felt crippled the third week. Took over a year to get rid of it).

I used wrist braces which helped a lot, and bought a special keyboard, used a wacom tablet instead of a mouse and paid attention to posture. Now I can use a normal keyboard and mouse too without pain.

If you have RSI, there is a load of good information on the web, and you can get rid of it slowly but surely.

Anyway, the .com boom was an exception and probably a bad example of risk, more like stupidity, for the most part good stable companies have rational trading for the most part, and as the .com boom showed, they will all correct themselves eventually if they are out of line. The more volatile stocks have a higher possibility of return. If it was not for investors some companies would never get off the ground. Think of diamond mines in Canada (most un-proven), deep sea oil drilling, untested products, big pharma, all are a gamble, but without the gamble you would never get the diamonds/oil/product. Sharing the gamble is better, if you lose, everyone loses, not just you, if you win you share the wealth. Simplistic view I know. Anyway, your blaming all the problems on investors, and I think the problems stem a lot deeper than that. Even without investors companies would want to make money, its human nature to grow. We all scream for cheaper/faster/better products. This would not happen if companies just sat on there ass and thought, gee, I better not upset anyone, we have to adapt. I think this is good for the world, eventually the rest of the world is going to have to catch up with the first world whether you like it or not, and it will us a bit in the short term, but we will adapt.

Wow, you really have no clue about how markets work. As someone already mentioned to you, the shares are used all the time and are a reflection of the companies success. The company usually owns a huge share in itself, often over 50%, if the shares tank the company tanks. If the shares go up the company uses this money to grow and make new jobs or offer benefits to its employees (Share option plans), or buy other smaller companies etc. Growth is a good thing! Its what gives you the computer you are using right now. The US is hugely in debt, sometimes governments, companies and people need to borrow, and when people lend money they usually expect profit in return, that's a no brainer. There is tremendous risk in investing, as the .com boom showed. Many people lost millions of dollars, for some stocks you need nerves of steal. If you have a credit card, a mortgage, or any loan you are borrowing money from a company. This is capitalism, get over it or move to a country with a system that pleases you more. Everyone always wants to simplify things and have someone or something to blame.

Shareholders are the owners of the company. Companies borrow money from Shareholders, and shareholders share all the risk if that company goes under. Shareholders can easily lose all their money if they buy into a bad company. This is a share in the company, so obviously they have say. If you have voting shares you even get to vote on issues, and depending how many shares you own (How much of the company you own) you have more say. I don't think you fully understand what a shareholder is. Many companies would not be where they are today if they could not get large sums of money from Shareholders, and why shouldn't someone who has risked their own money to own part of a company have a say?
