Is it legal for fans to just pick up and make new episodes of Star Trek? I figured there'd be copyright problems and such.
I've always wanted to make Back to the Future IV but I figured I wasn't allowed to. That would be cool if I could do that. (If anyone wants to fund back to the future IV, reply to this post and we'll be in touch;-)
Just a thought. If the RIAA insists that you are only licensing the music, then there should be a law that requires them to state that on a CD package right on the front. It seems like false advertising to sell CDs in a store right alongside items like stereos that you do "buy" and "own".
They should also be required to say on the package what rights you are actually licensing.
Check out the bottom of the page when doing a search for kazaa lite. They seem to have responded to a complaint by Kazaa and removed links to kazaa lite. I wonder why they wouldn't have done the same thing with this company.
I'm not sure how I feel about that, not withstanding the irony of Kazaa complaining about copyright infringement!
I'm just wondering what would happen if this became a mass produced product, for example putting in on cars to see your blind spot. Would that cause chaos for bats, assuming there were 1000's of these devices per square mile?
I can't add BRK-B to the stock quotes. What does it say when it's easier to report a bug to slashdot than to google? (Could this be a future Joel on Software article?)
Glad you asked. Lately PDF's have been crashing my browser or just making it hang for up to 5 minutes. Sometimes I'll click on one by accident and goodbye 20 other open tabs I had! Kind of like a landmine really. I'm guessing some adobe or Firefox update put me in this mess.
I'd be interested to hear others experiences/solutions on this topic.
Sorry, this is dumb but do you think that's really his last name? I mean the guy went into space and his last name just happens to have the word "shuttle" in it?
I'm thinking all famous people must change their last names to make then sound cool:
Bill Joy Mark Cuban.. I'm sure there are more.
Let me know, it's a question that's been bugging me for years.
I'd be afraid to tell people that I worked at the USPTO at social events because they'd probably spit at me. I'd say I'm the reason why your business can't have one-click checkout. And then they would spit at me. Who needs that kind of stress, right?
In fact you'd be liked better if you worked at the IRS. Pretty crazy, huh? Of course working for Microsoft would probably get the most spitting I suppose.
Even so called "pirate" users are doing MS a service by getting the updates because they lower the MS security problem by decreasing the number of unpatched systems prone to spreading viruses.
It's just like human health, why are some vaccines mandated? Because you're hurting everyone if you don't have them.
There are always vultures there. I went on a tour of the facilities a while back and there were vultures all over the place especially flying around the VAB. I asked some employees there about this and they say the vultures get great thermals there because of the huge building.
It seems like since everyone here is so freedom and openness oriented, shouldn't we have a community run, nonprofit slashdot? It's the very foundation of our community and it's control is out of our hands.
We also need innovation on Slashdot. For example, why not have everyone be able to post stories and then have a moderation system for those? Do we need "editors"?
Linux dissapointed me today. I clicked the upgrade button on my Ubuntu desktop, it did lots of stuff, and then when I restart my computer the screen doesn't work anymore, it just says there was a problem with X something, do you want to view anyway? And then there's like 4 inch text on a command line.
This X stuff is a huge problem for Linux. This has happened to me before too, and why should I have to fool with a file somewhere and know technical monitor specs just to change my resolution. This is just a showstopper.
I honestly think the entire Linux community should stop whatever they're working and get X fixed! I mean what could possibly be more important than a usable display?
I'm trying to answer this question for my own website right now. It's a program that lets you manage a dance studio, and I'm starting to design the registration page. I noticed that I instinctively starting adding first name, last name, address, fields, but then I realized, why do I care?
So now I'm wondering, how can I design a registration page when all I require is a userID and password? Wouldn't that look weird as a registration page? Any advice?
What do you mean been screened?

I was just curious if this technology would be harmful to bats? Would it make them confused or crash into things?
Isn't that the case with sonar where it harms dolphins somehows?

I don't know if she can write by hand, but if so maybe just write letters out and scan them into the computer. Then email the letters as attachments.
Really? tell me more please.
I'd pay this guy to replace all his furniture with UPS boxes and come out looking like a hero!
Oh yeah, I should go into PR!
Patents can't be rejected, silly rabbit.
That feature keeps us really anonymous
I posting this as a joke, but the humour depends on someone replying to this and telling what's wrong with the slashdot system, I don't know offhand..

I didn't understand why he said that? I've always heard it was good to put all your logic into the DB.
Would anyone care to explain that a little? And please dumb it down a lot, I'm not that smart in databases.

How about someone hack this real player (tm) interview and put it into MP3 for us?

I'll do it if someone sends me instructions. I think this BBC encourages remixing, and format changing stuff, right?
Sincerly,

People, how many times have I said this?
IF YOU DON'T WANT PEOPLE TO ACCESS YOUR INFORMATION, DON'T PUT IT ON THE INTERNET!
As far as I'm concerned everything on the internet is public domain. It's the only way the internet can work.
Neat program, did you make it? You should put the address in your profile.
