Oceans Empty By 2048?

You are right... $300 dollar tuna... food for the excessively rich American masses. Lets see here - New video iPod or a can of Tuna? You're right most people would choose tuna.
Why don't we just make more farms for these fish. Fish farms work... and they help eliminate the chance of mercury poisoning and such. The Oceans are an issue entirely on a different scale than anything ever attempted as far as conservation. We are talking a HUGE area with hundreds of countries and differing social norms and economic status'. Eliminating market fishing is not a solution. Too many people depend on it for their livelihood and too many countries have fish as a staple food (think Japan). There has to be a solution to conserve the Oceans without eliminating market fishing. Quotas on how much can be fished is not the answer because that would eliminate competition. Perhaps setting certain areas as conservation zones for periods of time to allow regeneration of stock there. Think of the logging industry in the United States, where our forests are preserved because of the loggers planting new trees and selectively foresting. Limits on the size of fish might also be effective.
The screens were imported from some far left country where social loafing reigns supreme due to lack of incentives and obscene taxes on making money.
Now that we have established that these touch screens are ineffective, lets examine the complaint:
Maybe the people that complain the most are the Dems? Maybe the screens work just as bad for republicans? Did these complainers try the republican option too in order to see if the problem is universal? Seriously, why is this on slashdot? Why isn't there something about John Kerry's recent attempt to kill the democratic party through his linguistic excellence and great sense of humor?
In November 2004, a UN panel described terrorism as any act: "intended to cause death or serious bodily harm to civilians or non-combatants with the purpose of intimidating a population or compelling a government or an international organization to do or abstain from doing any act."[5] -wikipedia article on terrorism
Bush is not a terrorist. Maybe by your own definition he is, but in the context that I used the word, he isn't.
As for global warming, if you want to get something done in the United States, make it an economic incentive. It is a capitalist society... not SOCIALIST. If you want to live in a socialist society, be my guest... but good luck finding an honest and incorrupt socialist government with a higher standard of living and social mobility than the United States. Don't think that you are the only one concerned about the environment. Many people are concerned about the environment, and weighing the consequences, take different actions than you. Remember, that no one is right and even if you think you know EVERYTHING about global warming, it might not be all the data that you think. We don't know if the hole in the ozone layer is simply a part of a greater cosmic cycle. 500 years ago the world was flat and it was the center of the universe.
How can you quote a terrorist in that context? Bush is not a terrorist. Whether you want to claim he is or not, he did not purposefully kill civilians. What does Bin Laden mean by freedom? Sharia? Muslim law is not freedom if you are a non-Muslim. The United States at least allows for religious practice freely. Have you learned anything about Afghanistan? It is not a normal environment. After the Soviets left, the place was devoid of all intellectual and skilled people. The only people left were criminals, vagabonds, and generally those too poor to leave earlier. That was the environment that the Taliban had control over and that was what the United States went into. I recall a post a few days ago about where to live if not the US, and there were not that many worthy options. You can live in the Netherlands if you want, but I like to drive my car and be able to have elbow room. Osama did not say it best. He is a terrorist and enjoys killing innocent people to make a point. Do you support THOSE shenanigans?
"The 8th blade sends an electronic pulse to the center of the brain destroying the part of the brain responsible for hair growth and four other non-essential functions... The 9th blade gently smooths out the jaw bone and the tenth blade removes tartar causing plaque."
Hallucinogens are not banned because they are addictive. Take LSD for example, it is considered non-addictive (in any way). Why is this drug illegal? Because people that are on it have the potential for "bad trips" where they can injure themselves and others. You would argue that Cannabis smokers wouldn't do this, but combined with another drug, alcohol, people can go quite crazy. I live in Ann Arbor(home of Hash Bash), and have seen people do some really stupid and unsafe things that they normally wouldn't do just because they use the two drugs in tandem.
New Slashdot Article next week:
"So and So Cracks ProtectDisc Copy Protection"
Seriously now, why do people even bother. The truth is that if the disc can fit into a dvd drive, someone can make something to rip it. Or maybe this company's business model is a sort of partnership with PowerDVD so PowerDVD can relase a new "ProtectDisc" version of their software. Maybe the copy protection isn't supposed to work at all and is only there to allow other companies to make software to work with it?
Yes, people worship so called "stars" for "stupid" reasons. What criteria do you propose for role models? Oh wait, that would be your own subjective opinion and nothing more. The fact is, everybody's opinion is equally valuable (which is my opinion), and if people choose to think stars are great and do everything they say, then that is their right.
GAMING IS A SPORT. It DOES require training and though the video game may change, this can be correlated to certain changes within sports too. Just as no single game in Basketball is the same as another, no two games of Starcraft are exactly alike. Yes, chess hasn't changed over the centuries, but chess is nearly unique in that regard. And you said it, twitch, reflexes, and arm control are all important aspects, making it a sport, albeit a sport that requires a low level of activity, but it can be compared to riflery or another similarly low activity sport. The fact is though, arguing whether or not it is a sport will not get us anywhere. It really comes down to this: IF YOU UNDERSTAND THE GAME BEING PLAYED AND IT'S INS AND OUTS, YOU WILL LIKELY FIND IT AT LEAST A LITTLE INTERESTING TO WATCH PEOPLE THAT ARE AMAZING AT IT. I can personally say that watching video games being played by normal people is somewhat boring, especially when I am at a friend's house or something. However, seeing people play that are amazing at a game is a different story. Those players are not just "a little better than others." They are A LOT better than others. In the article, it said that the guy trains every day for many hours to stay good at the game. It also said that he practises finger exercises to maintain dexterity. He works out to stay in shape, knowing that sharpness in the game requires physical health as well. Did you even read the article? Maybe to Americans, video games conjures up images of nerds stuck in their basements. In Korea they don't like to play alone, so they play at video game cafe's together. Yes, Starcraft may be the flavor of the decade and it will change, but when it does, the same players will likely switch to the next one, which will maybe be Starcraft II, whenever that comes out. The point is, the league promotes certain players as the elites, to create followings for these players and give face to these anonymous players. In this way, the league has stars and is a lot like American athletics. Additionally, when a professional gamer plays, it isn't just because they have a good mouse that they are good. These are people that play an rts game mostly using the keyboard. Their hands fly over the keyboard, utilizing every hotkey and function. These are not your normal hardcore gamers, they have physical and mental talent that sets themselves apart from other players. Next time do your homework
I think this applies to adults too. In fact, I find that after playing video games, studying is very difficult. I go to the University of Michigan and find that my grades suffer if I do not get homework done BEFORE playing games. It isn't just because of the time involved, it is because the video games provide a distraction and make it difficult to concentrate on homework afterwards. Moderation helps, but moderation where ORDER MATTERS. Moderate with homework getting done first.
Yea, I am experiencing this too... This guy from Singapore installed a router here and he was in India at the time. It was really amazing how foreigners can defy physics now. Geez the internet is changing everything.
I have comcast cable internet and I can tell you that I have been so impressed with their upstanding citizenship and great service that, had there ACTUALLY BEEN A COMPETITOR TO THEM IN MY AREA, I might have thought about Comcast first. In all actuality, we have all been victims of Comcast at one time or another. Lets face it, Comcast is used to having their way. With little or no competition in the way of cable, it is no wonder that they are having trouble adjusting to competition.

Yea, you are right anonymous coward, she probably knew exactly what would happen, where, and when, in which case she was simply too lazy to take action. Keep the conspiracy theories to your gossip column.

Lets see before 9/11, we had already experienced attacks by Al Qaeda (USS Cole). However, nothing was as large scale as 9/11. Also, how do we know that Rice didn't do anything? Yes, she might have been warned about Bin Laden, but what good does that do? How would she have known that airplanes would be hijacked and used as weapons? That was the first major case of an airplane being used for terrorism in that way. Before that, there have been hijackings, but without the use of the airplane in that way. Rice could not have known that would happen. Also, it isn't because it was inconvenient, or because of a narrowly defined agenda. The truth is that we CANNOT KNOW WHAT SHE WAS THINKING. How do YOU know that she didn't do anything for the sake of "power for power's sake?" Maybe your right? Maybe Rice let 9/11 happen on purpose because she knew that eventually Powell would step down and she would get to take his place? Yes, that sounds plausible.
I don't see a Kennedy writing an article on the.ooo45 percentage point margin of victory for the Democrat winner of the Gubernatorial election in Washington... hmmm

No, if Tuna went for $300 a can, no one would buy it. You fail at economics.
Bush likes parties too much for that. It reminds him of college.

UNENFORCEABLE
There is no way that this can be enforced unless of course you have Storm Troopers and Darth Vader. They will hunt you down.
