These poor russians have a terrible inferiority complex, and most of their muscle-flexing is aimed at keeping their own people in check.
I definitely see this as just another in a looong series of similar irrelevant (as such) stunts only aimed at bolstering russians' image of their own country. For a decade or so the Russian media has been trying to paint a picture of Russia as the good savior of all mankind, secretly thwarting the evil plans of "America". They are a sick bunch, still just beginning to recover from WWII and Stalin's iron fist that killed tens of millions of their own people.
Roads are pretty "intelligent" as well, by the above definition. They've infiltrated all of society (can you name a town where these don't appear?), and have made humans their maintenance-giving slaves!
Now the roads of the world have started to demand lighter color, by storing and emitting heat from the sun, thus furthering the greenhouse effect (blackmail, a sure sign of intelligence).
Roads have us by the balls!
And just think how much work it would take for you to destroy all the roads in the world... and they would resist, plus send their human minions after you.
Remember this the next time you speed down a highway: who is really using whom?! Hmmm....
One word: sex!
The "sexual revolution" came about in the 60s and most everybody has been so preoccupied with getting the next orgasm (and the quality of the orgasm) that there no longer is any striving towards improving lives in other areas - they just don't have the energy left over after finding the next sick pictures from the 'net or the next STD from a new partner.
We need to return to God, repent of our perverse ways, and get back on track with productive, prosperous, creative and innovative ways!
Let's not get carried away, the article begins with "We will soon propose to our government". This means nothing but "we are brewing ideas in our secluded labs". And Russia has more important places to put its money into so I doubt those ideas will get very far.
Doh! Ofcourse its "special" - Its created that way!
Ever wonder why all the planets have such different composition? The moon could not have come from the same lump as Earth, nor could the other planets. This is a divine hint: "I'm here, are you listening?"
I for one welcome our divine overlord, Jesus the Nazarene who was crucified and has risen - whether the last twelve verses of Mark 16 were or were not written by Mark...
Either they will lose gradually, or they will cause massive casualties, which will provoke a really big attack on the population of pakistan
That of course sounds reasonable, but might I remind you that this IS Afghanistan. This is the story I was told in 1989:
Once upon a time a scorpion wanted to cross a brook. On the bank he saw a frog and asked if the frog would give him a ride to the other side.
"Oh no," says the frog, "If I carry you on my back you will sting me."
"But why would I sting you when we would both surely perish," replied the scorpion.
The frog eventually conceded that the scorpion had a point, and agreed to the request.
Half way across, the scorpion stang the frog, and they both began to drown.
"But why did you break your word and sting me, knowing it would be certain death for us both?" cried the frog.
"Because", replied the scorpion, "THIS IS AFGHANISTAN!"
There isn't going to be a resolution to the Afghan problem in the foreseeable future... and to the Afghan mindset, it is inconsequential if they lose GSM coverage themselves after blowing a few base stations up.
I hope the martian winds blow some of that dust off of the panels.
Great to see these amazing robots still at work!
I read "Roving Mars" a couple of years ago and even back then the mission had superseded all of its goals.
Indeed a very inspiring episode in space exploration
I just clicked on the music store link (http://www.nn.iij4u.or.jp/~nekokubo/) and three other links mentioned in TA. I got through without problems - in Finland. I guess my ISP isn't blocking it.
The blacklist idea is dumb, but I can see how linkfarms or gay sites may actually contain CP or links to CP somewhere under the domain/website in question. Its probably just hard to find - the banning has been done at a too high level...
At least my ISP isn't blocking anything, go figure...
That's right, the cube law is against us here: e.g. if the shape remains the same, and the length doubles, the volume will be eight 2^3 times the original!
Also, a bird's wing is self-regenerating: it fixes itself all the time. I'd imagine a flapping wing to be extremely service-heavy.
- [fta] Finally it starts! [/fta]
- What?
- The development of [fta] a smashing game [/fta]
- What's it going to be about?
- Huh?
- Like, what kind of game is it going to be?
- I dunno... It'll be a game, you know, a "game"
- Right, and how about a genre, content, idea...
- Idea? No no no, its going to be an open source game, for Linux
- Oh I see...
- Yeah, its going to have great graphics... a [fta] professional quality [/fta] (tm) game!
- Um-hum
But Carl Howe, an Apple analyst at Blackfriars Communications, disputes the security researchers' theories. He thinks that OS X's Linux heritage makes Apple systems less vulnerable to attack than Windows-based platforms.
What "Linux heritage"???! Yes, MacOS X is based partly on NeXt, FreeBSD... not Linux!
In this case, the Finnish Standards Association is the body that decides Finland's stand in the debate over OOXML becoming an ISO standard. Finland's vote at ISO is now going to an "abstension"...
The article says (I can read finnish) that mr. Hirkamo was still on his trial period of 4 months, during which his boss could legally fire him without providing a reason.
The CEO of the organization in question, Pekka Järvinen, stated that "Unfortunately issues came up during the trial period, after which trust is no longer possible". And "I cannot comment on the reasons any further".
I guess his anti-Microsoft ideas were not appreciated:-P
How about the consequences to our future generations?
OBSERVATION: Holocaust is a bad word, almost like genocide
CONSEQUENCE: Holocaust can't be found on Google
CONCLUSION: The Holocaust never happened...
Errm... you can substitute "Holocaust" with some other shocking word.
How can we learn from our past if our past is blurred?
I'm glad they have HyperCard on the list (41st). Apple really led the way in multimedia in the early 90s. The earliest "multimedia" PCs were pretty pathetic when viewed by a Mac-user who was used to real sound (not beeps) and high-res graphics.
FTA (30.):
Many observers claim that Microsoft Vista's Aero is a brazen rip-off of OS X's Aqua interface.
Amen. Still just a poorly made copy. Vista is not on the list...
sig?
Great work.
I expect this will help bring up a new generation of scientist that are not fixated on ways to change observations to reflect theories but rather change theories to reflect observations.
All theories are welcome, but observations should be considered objectively.
Way to go!
Every once in a while, Microsoft does something right... or at least releases something cool.
I think you meant to say: "Every once in a while Micro$oft copies someone else's idea and tries to get all the credit".
This plagiarism seems to be the only form of R/D M$ does - and it makes me sick!
I just don't understand how my comment turned into an elementary math course...
Here is how I reached the figure of about 100 square meters per person if everybody lived in Texas...
Land area of Texas:695,622 km (Wikipedia)
695,622 km = 695,622,000,000 m (kilo = 1000 = 10^6 so thats how many times the dot goes right...)
About 6.5 billion people, in other words, 6500,000,000 people
695,622,000,000 / 6500,000,000 = 107 m
I just hope these transparent planes are offer lighting protection, as in Faraday cages, we don't want another AF-447, 'nuff said.

I feel sorry for them.

In other news: Cheese syndicates scrambling to build armies of skiing robots for conquering the moon, which, as everybody knows, is made of cheese!

I'm happy Puffy, the OpenBSD mascot isn't on the list.
