  1. Re:Any other insomniacs that enjoy it out there? on Insomniacs, the Phantoms of the Internet · · Score: 1

i've always been mostly nocturnal, comfortably going to bed a 7am and waking up around the crack of noon (thank you daniel for the expression), but for the last few years i've been forced into a routine of waking up super-early. about two years ago that finally took effect, and i found myself unable to sleep in, even on weekends.

i recently got an opportunity to relax for a month, and the second i knew that i was out of the routine (that never happened on vacation) i suddenly found myself back in my old habits and sleeping beautifully, correctly keeping my eyes shut in the mornings but viewing the dawn from the other side :)

now that i'm back in a routine, i simply cannot bring myself to give up the best hours of the day: i'm sleeping about 3 hours a night, and i feel physically better off and mentally more alert if i don't get much more than that. i'm incredibly active in addition to my desk job, so either i'm on my way to a heart attack or i'm doing just fine. it's not insomnia, it's a gift.

    enjoy it!

100%: this is more of a case of managers managing badly. the worst system is an inflexible one, and the coordination required between design, production and marketing is implemented in the real world as marketing - everything else is drastically time-limited to meet up with the demand created by the people who least understand what's going on.

if you want a good solution, you might have to give it time. or take your time...
and things take a lot longer if you're being constantly interrupted by your boss. why do we have so much unemployment if every engineer and developer needs a secretary?

  13. a quick filter on MTV: 2007 Borked the Music Industry · · Score: 1

i'm just writing this out a little more clearly for those who're catching up:

mtv is blaming the internet for the fact that the last ten years have seen it pushing tracks that are not only musically and lyrically challenged, but that can't manage to hold its target audience's interest for more than a week or two at a go...

aside from pushing the rest of us out of pool halls and dance clubs, and forcing us to find alternative (mostly internet) channels to listen to all the wonderful new stuff that is coming out (because all the regular radio stations pander to the record industry too), they've also had a huge and highly detrimental effect on record stores who can't sell what people don't know and can't sell to kids who won't be listening in a couple of days anyway.

they've backed the wrong horse, and it's time to get back on the real bandwagon instead of trying to pimp their rickety jalopy.
