I work for a small rural (very rural) telco that is laying fiber to our customers, and supplying them with up to 100mbps speeds.
Then the big guys come in, block our access to polls and such in attempts to service remote customers, but then, themselves, refuse to service them. We think it has something to do with hoarding funds that are available for servicing rural customers.
Also, our customers, a large majority of them, can't get anything close to dependable cellular data, heck, most of them can't even get enough signal for cellular voice.
Our voice will never get heard, because we are too small, but doing the best we can to service these people.
That I feel I'm confident enough in my ability to survive most situations. Enough so that I would rather they not send a search party out for me, cause if I don't show up in a day or two, then I'm dead, and they are wasting money.
All I have to say about the issue is that Virtua Tennis on the DC was an amazingly fun single player, 2 player, and 4 player game. If they could tap into something similar to that style of gameplay, I think it could be fun.
When I used to work in a movie theatre I used to often exercise my right to kick people out/move them to a different seat. You would be surprised what we had printed on the back of those little ticket stubs that WERE refundable up until they were ripped.
My PC Speakers used to make a very loud static noise, now I have my TV on my desk immediatly to my left, and the picture on it actually goes out for a second or so abotu 2 seconds before my phone rings if I have my phone on my desk.
I can tell you, as someone who currently works for that "small company" (I work on the internet side of a small independent cable company, a rarity these days), this won't be happening soon. Especially not from a small company, it would take a large company with leverage (comcast) to be able to do this do to the way these companies package their lineups.
as someone pointed out, they bundle ESPN with ESPN 2 but thats not even the half of it, a lot of channels are bundled with unrelated channels under the same parent company, it's total BS really.
I guess this leaves mac users talking about how green their grass is, and complaining about their neighbors and how their crappy property is bringing down the value of their property?
(Watch the karma burn!)
You knew damn well when you got a mac you wouldn't have a lot of choices for games. Why would you purchase a mac if you wanted to do gaming?
Thats like complaining that there are no video editing programs for the PS2.
so... you are in a hiring posotion...
Hey, buddy, i'm looking for a job, great news too, I don't have any certs. Hell, I don't even have a degree, I figure, why do I need one?
I'm sure by this point, I'm pretty much a sure bet for getting this job, but if you want to actually do an interview as a free write off lunch or something, I would understand.
We'll be in touch, nice doing buisness with you.
ass
I'm at work currently reading slashdot because I am unable to work at this moment due to a computer ripping off my nail on my right ring finger and a good chunk of skin on said finger.
It took me about a minute to type this using hunt and peck on,my right hand and regular typing with my left...
Yes, however, i'm no longer in Nick's "target audience" but I wouldn't say anything negative about it. Simply that the shows aren't meant for me, whereas, the shows on MTV... well, they SUCK!
The worst part of all of this is the fact that without these famous names doing voices, the quality of these games is going to fall drastically. Can you imagine playing a game without recognizable voices in it? Man, if only there were people out there that could, you know, kinda, mimic famous people. If only someone could sound like sean connery...
This seems completely insane. I used to work in a movie theatre doing basically EVERYTHING there, working the cashier, the concession stand, the projection both, etc. It wasn't uncommon for our drawers to be off $5-10, sometimes $20 or $30 for a single shift. nothign ever came of it. I don't know if it had to do with the volume of cash flow, on some nights a concession worker could have as much as $5000 in their drawer or more, but they just didn't seem to care.
(Great highschool/college job, a *nationally known* theatre chain that begings with C and ends in armike)

wasn't too bad, no, but not as great as the DC release... Now, if they would have waited 200 years, THAT would have been a masterpiece release.
what kind of release date is that? everything after 9/9/99 is irrelevant.

you must be at the wrong site, this is slashdot, not dotslash.

I, for one, will be looking at the girl in either photo, but that's just me.
you can hear IRC? wow, what version is that? IRC 4.2?
Why is this a US thing, and why is this a 'problem'? It's a problem that we (The Human Race) don't want good things to end?
when I was reading this thread, there was a "Google adsense" banner at the top, just kind of funny I thought.
he said fork, not buy.
no, penny arcade had graphics
this doesn't prove that it's common, this is a photo OF AN AIRPORT. This is like saying that lakes are very commmon and showing photos of michigan.

it's actually the speed of a bike carrying 3 library of congresses the length of 2 football fields.

OR, and here's a scary thought, authors who works are turned into hollywood movies.
