I fully agree the education system is horrible for the top and bottom level of students. I slept through most of my classes barely making the grade due to high test scores. The redundant repetitive information bored me to tears.
The major point I disagree with is the "Factory Worker" mentality. To quote you "The #1 "skill" they want you to learn is how to sit still, be quiet, and go unnoticed". A couple of points. How is a person suppose to learn if they are activly trying to do something else? What kid would rather sit and learn math or go play with their friends at recess? I would have to say the vast minority. Having disciplined structure in a childs life is required for any but the worst forms of parenting. The problem still rotates back to the parents. Honestly... pretty much all issues in the US funnel back to the parents but thats another debate for another day.
I am so tired of this weakminded society you seem to adore. Our crimerates are through the ceiling. We are one of the most dangerous countries in the world to visit due to our high violent crimerate.
And if you look at the time line it was "JUST" like posted above. Hippy parents raising their kids to do their own thing because its okay with no repercussions of their actions. I guess what I am trying to explain is this: We have parents now adays that think it is "child abuse" to spank your child. How many of the world's adult population do you think were spanked as children? Maybe not even spanked maybe swatted on the hand for touching something they were told "No" to. I would hazzard a guess and say it is well over 70% of males and probably around 50% of females.
Growing up swats from my mom let me know something was wrong and I should expect to get swatted for doing it. Swats from my dad hurt like hell and I never did that offense again. Most of the time my mother just indicating that my dad was gonna swat me was enough for me to cease the activity. I have never been in a fist fight as an adult. I have only been in minor scuffles as a child. This is well within the norm for our society yet how I was raised would be considered "Child Abuse" now. These spankings went a long way in teaching me repercussions of my actions and most of the time I learned from my mistakes. And even through these spankings I learned that lying about my misdeeds only got me worse punishments (Spanking+grounding etc...) Maybe the problem is that todays standards of what is/is not child abuse may actually be true child abuse.
Your not a gamer.. or at least not a modern gamer. BF2142 will use more memory that you have available by itself. Running most modern online games 2GB for XP is the sweet spot.

It appears this was made new from the ground up? I am so used to logical progression with specific technologies trying to squeeze out the last drop of performance with no real new innovation that this idea seems foreign. It is refreshing to actually see something that is potentially new. Hopefully it holds up to the quoted 100 times faster.
This sounds more like a mutated form of spam greylisting than a completely new method of detection. And this packet watching by itself is going to have a very high false positive rate unless they are truely doing it in the method of spam greylisting which learns who is "okay" to receive packets from.
Now I suppose if this was designed to prevent an infected computer from sending packets out.. wait thats a firewalls job. I guess I don't understand the usefulness of this new feature unless it is designed to hinder users even further. AV software and their current methods are used because of the very low false positive rates. Most of the heuristic technologies by default are set at minimal settings because of the high false positive rates in these types of technologies.
I seriously think this is a good first step and a rare instance of humanity thinking ahead. This one secure store is obviously not sufficent on a global level with the catastrophies that they have indicated but it is indeed a great pilot that will hopefully get other countries doing the same or similar.

You do realize the canadian dollar is very close to = to american dollar now. It has made about a 50% increase against the dollar in the last few years. 3-4 dollars US is probably less than your minimum highering wage.

Just make it illegal to use credit to gamble with. If you don't have positive funds you can't gamble. Seems pretty cut & dry to me. This way the law part would be enforced against companies instead of individuals. Let the companies use the resources to enforce it and the gov just needs to enforce the companies.
This would prevent alot of bankrupcy claims and save a responsible tax payer alot of money in the long run.
Astroids are definitly a much better endeavor than making a 3d image of the sun. The possibility for mining resources that are rare on earth or needed for space-based manufacuring are high. Who knows maybe we will be able to expand the known elements and open up a whole new scope of metallurgy.
I for one am willing to pay taxes for experiments with potential this has.

This has been going on for decades with one prediction after another never coming to fruitation. What ever happened to El Nino? That used to be in the news every day as the marker for this great catastrophe.
Basically I am not saying its a good thing to shoot polution into the air. And taking preventitive measure to reduce the potential harm is a great step. But trying to bludgeon people into thinking its gonna end the world and your children will not be able to go outside is just plain ridiculous.
The major issue with OCR is the hardware needs. In smaller environments where one server can handle the 5-10k messages you receive in a day the additional workload may not be noticable. Alot of environments out there process 250k - several million messages a day through one or two filters. Throwing an OCR into the mix would require a large investment into hardware.
Here's the fun part. When the next "New great feature" is put into modern mail clients we will see a new wave of a new pain in the butt type spam. Wait till we start recieving MPEG/AVI encoded embedded spam:)

Simple solution. Mass genocide of all developing countries humans then use that now vacant land to plant the trees.
And this benifits humans in two ways:
*The fertilizer is in place so the plants will grow well...
