Any other activity is tantamount to infidelity. This is one of the major reasons my angry wife is now an angry ex-wife (which still sorta sucks but not nearly as badly).

Why is that a good reason? If cops would actually do what they're "supposed" to do and catch a robber, that wouldn't have been necessary. Instead they were probably more concerned with sitting on the side of the road raising revenue or harassing some pot smokers.

I think your absolutely right, if a class 1 felony is not important enough to get the cops off their ass they should be fired. No prosecutor would prosecute you for doing something like this, for starters they would look like a fool at trial and it would bring to light the neglagince of the police. Committing a crime to stop a more grievous crime is also a complete defense, provided it's not excessive (n-1 is generally acceptable). If they were stupid enough to charge you with a crime you would have them by the balls and hypothetically if it got all the way to a trial you could just testify that you shot them with your camera.

  8. Re:Just keep in mind the tradeoff on Indian Gov't Uses Special Powers To Slash Cancer Drug Price By 97% · · Score: 2

The number of diseases out there is, relatively, finite. So assuming a drug can provide complete system control with little to no side effects, why do we have to keep on inventing new drugs for that disease?

Their are plenty of drugs out there that worked great, but got dumped because their patent expired. To be replaced by the "Next Big Thing", that is covered by patents, because the company sabotaged the old drug.

Worse yet is the complete lack of incentive for drug companies to find cures. While they obviously don't want their customers to die, I speculate that they also don't want to loose customers by curing them with a one time treatment. These are public corporations, so their objectives and motives should be clear to anyone, which is to basically make money for shareholders and upper management...

Let's say you're CEO of drugco, two of your scientists come to you proclaiming that they found a new treatment for X. The first scientist says he found a cure that only needs to be taken once and is easy to make. The second scientist says he found a medication that can be taken daily and is easy to make. If I were beholden to shareholders I may pick the daily medication because it would be stable recurring revenue and the price equilibrium would be maximized in our favor. Additionally had I released the cure I would have made the other medication obsolete. So at that point once the patent runs out, or the Indian government gives it away, my company is done for. It is way too much risk to assume something else is around the next corner without first maximizing the value of what you already have.

So anyhow, I think a major conflict of interest exists with for-profit drug companies. The government is best suited to incubate these projects since they benefit all of mankind; in therory only a finite amount of work needs to be done and the reward is essentially infinite. Assuming the government does get into the drug business, would we end up with something equivalent to the military-industrial complex?

IMHO the drug rehab system is a joke in this country. I once knew a teenager who was addicted to heroin, he wanted to stop so he went to his parents for help. They took him to two different hospitals and both refused to help him, stating that "we don't treat that here". Next they went the local methadone clinic and even they refused to help him, stating that they only treat people who have been addicted for more than three years. Finally they determined the only way to get the necessary help was to have judge order the hospital to admit him through involuntary commitment proceedings. Even then, the hospital kicked him out after a couple of days. They did arranged treatment at a rehab center, but apparently this was the only approved center in the state so the waiting list was over a month to get in. In the mean time he had a prior felony (with deferred judgement / probation) drug charge and was now thrust back onto the streets with the same group of people while still having intense cravings. They wanted him to go live with his grandmother, but of course since he was on probation he couldn't leave the area. The consequence if he was arrested again would be guaranteed prison time and a felony permanently on his record. I think what they did was bordering on criminal, he just wanted help.

Yes the Chicago river is one of the many tributaries of the Illinois river, which is a confluence of the the Missasippi river, but you should realize that only treated sewage is discharged into the river. Moreover the average discharge of the Des Plaines river is a mere 535 cu ft/s and the treated sewage has to travel over 300 miles before it even reaches the mouth of the Illinois river, which discharges 23,200 cu ft/s of water. The Mississippi discharges water at an average of 593,000 cu ft/s, making the Chicago river at most 0.0009% of the Mississippi river. I'd be willing to bet that only a small insufficient fraction of the treated fecal matter actually makes it all the way to the confluence of the Mississippi river, it's filtered out through natural aquatic ecosystem processes.

My house is less then 50 feet away from the Mississippi (and surrounded by it during flood season), so don't think I don't care about protecting this great waterway. Have you ever held a cup of Mississippi water?
