In the UK a 'cookie' is usually a biscut with chocolate chips in it. This is the icon representation they have in Chrome I think (in the address bar a cookie (with chocolate chips) icon appears that you can click to view the (website) cookie information).
I've heard of some people who wanted to delete an account but couldn't just went around trolling the site and the account got banned/removed. Obviously not the best idea in all circumstances however.
Could you set up some sort of email rule that scans incoming messages for keywords (gig, show time, Marrickville, etc.), and sends an auto response along the lines of "This might not be the email address you are looking for, go to [QIRKZ-WEBSITE] for info or try this email [QIRKZ-EMAIL]", and puts the emails in a folder somewhere so you can still check them in case a friend is actually inviting you to a gig, but not worry about having to reply to random people.
Or perhaps they just wanted to see how your friend would react to working with a difficult person.
That implies that you are going to be working with difficult people, so may or may not be a sign that it's not a great place to work as you'd have to put up with it all the time.
The thing I hate about self checkouts is it stops every time it calculates too much weight or not enough weight in the bagging area once its scanned. Without fail the human has to come over and bypass the error message.
This bugs me about self checkouts too; I usualy want to put stuff straight into my backpack, but it complains if I put that on the scale, and complains if I don't put stuff onto the scale before putting it into my bag. Its as if they don't want people to stop using new carrier bags each time they shop.
I don't understand why they don't let me correct it myself.. Not only would I be helping them with their algorithm, but then I would have a known good transcript to save in my voicemail for later searching.. (Searching is pretty bad if your looking for a word or phrase that is often mis-interpreted).
I suspect the fear of trolls mistranslating is too great to allow anyone to do it.
Imagine some people "helping" the algorithm by insisting that if someone says, say, "music" it actually "translates" to "we're no strangers to love".
All the good information is collected on websites like the BBC, not on Twitter, so if I want news, I'll stick with a proper news source.
A lot of people would have first heard about it from twitter (or another social network), and then gone to a proper news source for conformation and actual details. I guess thats the point of this story (if there is a point to it, apart from how much the network can handle at once)
AT&T, Verizon have much better information than the data stored on those iPhones which are not even transmitted to Apple. Why is there no outcry over the information that the mobile operators have?
The phone companies will need to know where your phone is so they can send incoming messages and phone calls to it. How long they keep this information for is a valid question, however.
I would be interested to see how many people are not on some variant of WPA2.
I think one of my routers doesn't, but that's because either the DS or Wii didn't work fully with WPA for whatever reason. I set it up for MAC filtering instead, which isn't much, but a step up from completely unsecured.
Recently I looked on my phone trying to get it to connect to my Wifi and noticed that of all the signals it was picking up (about 9) mine was the only one NOT using WEP. Its surprising that people are so incredibly clueless about the technology they use. It's not like it would take that much effort to learn a little about your router before you plug it in.
When I was trying to set up wireless internet between my router and my DS/Wii console, some parts only worked with WEP for one reason or another. This left my choices as either no internet on console (which I use to watch the BBC iPlayer), use WEP, or use unsecured with MAC filtering. Neither are particularly secure, but think what someone who doesn't have a technological background would do when their console complains about wireless security, they'll probably just turn it off entirely to make the problem go away.
Doctor Who has an amazing way to allow the series to continue indefinitely. All you have to do to keep it going is fulfill the minimum complete definition for the show: tardis, time lord, and companions. The look and feel of these can vary in any way (though keeping the tardis whoosh sound and centered complex control panel is a plus). I secretly hope that the show drops Daleks but that hasn't happened yet:P
I've heard a rumour that they're skipping a Dalek story in the next series, but have not read too much into the planned storylines so don't know how correct that is.
I read recently they're splitting the series slightly, having half the episodes starting now, then having a mid-series clifhanger, then having a break for a few weeks or so until towards the end of the summer, then continuing with the rest of the series. In that case, I would be surprised if they had a Dalek storyline in both half-series.
Given the amount spent on marketing at the various levels, the amount spent on promotions and sponsorships, the extreme competition in the field, etc... etc... I'd be *very* surprised if the margins were that high. That so far the grocery chains are declining to introduce 'house' brands of energy drinks just adds more weight to the suspicion that the margin is considerably lower.
I'm from the UK and have in the past brought the 'own-brand' energy drinks from TESCO, ASDA, Iceland and Sainsburys. Some will have the shop name on it, some will not but I've not seen them anywhere else apart from those supermarkets. They are noticably cheaper than the highly marketed ones.
It's worth noting that the Doctor has committed two genocides: the Time Lords and the Daleks, in one go. The Daleks have committed so many genocides, on and off screen, that any "historian" of the Whoniverse would pretty quickly lose count. Genocide is the Daleks' modus freaking operandi.
I really liked the line at the end of one of the Tom Baker episodes with the Daleks, when Davros had been revived and was arrested for "crimes against all of sentient creation"
Hardware isn't the problem, you could build a hundred boxes and if you load them all with Linux, you won't accomplish anything. Or you can run a VM with Windows, IE and Silverlight like the FAQ of your HTPC software suggests.
The cost of a Windows license to run it in a VM might be the same as the cost for some of the other hardware options mentioned.
And if you're running Windows without a license, you may as well not bother with Netflix at all and just pirate everything. I suspect the original poster wanted to use their existing hardware (i.e. not buy dedicated hardware just to run Netflix), not buy extra software (i.e. Windows) just to run Netflix, and not pirate anything (either content that is avaliable on Netflix, or Windows).
* The right-click context menu doesn't come up in FF4 unless I DOUBLE-RIGHTCLICK.
I saw that happening yesterday, right click wasn't working on the text of comments, but it worked fine in the whitespace to the left (although is mostly useless there)
Actually, this is wrong. You buy points in multiples of 400 (800, 1200, 1600, 2000), while games are priced in multiples of 80.
Perhaps the OP was thinking of Wii points, I think they are in bundles of 1000 (or at least start at 1000).

What if you got a +1 comment bonus if you make a comment after reading the article instead of not being able to post a comment at all.

Wikileaks mocked this Pentagon Press Secretary tweet this morning:
I saw that, for anyone who missed it, Wikileaks response was:
How the heart bleeds: Pentagon spokesman whines about spending easter weekend spinning Gitmo Files http://is.gd/cmVVLS

So your solution to an out of control patent system is... to build a freeze-ray?
Sorry, the freeze-ray is patented

What was Soylent Green then?
Delicious
Really? Look up a little fan movie some friends of mine made. It's called Lord of the Rings: Hunt for Gollum.
I've seen Hunt for Gollum, its good. There is another LOTR fan film 'Born of Hope', which is kind of a prequel (but not the Hobbit).
We need to be able to moderate stories.
I think thats what the firehose is for. Although in the new site design it is harder to find (but I've not really look that hard)

True, but you can already watch that here. Brief ads, geographically bound, but no Netflix subscription needed.
FTFY

Yeh, and here I just thought it was my computer refusing to click xkcd links yesterday... Glad to know it's not just me... :D
I saw that happening and figured a workaround to just drag the link to the '+' button that creates a new tab.
That was way too long! Your entire post can be summed up in 4 words:
"Nice guys finish fast"
TL;DR
