  1. GAO on New ESRB Legislation in the Works · · Score: 1

Since I haven't seen anyone else mention it yet, I just thought I'd point out that the Government Accountability Office (GAO) exists to ensure the GOVERNMENT'S accountability, not some public group like the ESRB. Methinks some senator hasn't been paying attention in class.

From the GAO's site (emphasis mine):

Under recently passed legislation, we have changed our name from the General Accounting Office to the Government Accountability Office. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) is an agency that works for Congress and the American people. Congress asks GAO to study the programs and expenditures of the federal government. GAO, commonly called the investigative arm of Congress or the congressional watchdog, is independent and nonpartisan. It studies how the federal government spends taxpayer dollars. GAO advises Congress and the heads of executive agencies (such as Environmental Protection Agency, EPA, Department of Defense, DOD, and Health and Human Services, HHS) about ways to make government more effective and responsive. GAO evaluates federal programs, audits federal expenditures, and issues legal opinions. When GAO reports its findings to Congress, it recommends actions. Its work leads to laws and acts that improve government operations, and save billions of dollars.

That's right, to a point. If, however, in your example, none of a product's ads produce sales, they likely won't be advertising in that magazine again. So it is somewhat of a concern to spammers that their clients actually end up getting some sales. Thus why we get the constant war of spammers trying to get past our protection schemes.

Only two days? C'mon, you just move the holiday to a Monday so it's a three day holiday. Then you'll want to leave on Friday to take full advantage of it. But everyone's leaving on Friday and everyone wants to beat the traffic, so leave on Thursday. And if you're leaving on Thursday, why not Wednesday night? And you can't come back on Monday, that's still a holiday. And you can't come back on Tuesday, cause everybody comes back on Tuesday, so you outsmart everybody and you come back on Wednesday. So now you're leaving on Wednesday and coming back on Wednesday and suddenly a one day holiday is now a week! (Apologies to Scott Adams)

Nintendo is going to save adventure gaming? Strange, because from the looks of it, I woulda said GameTap. Considering that GameTap is getting episodic content for new Sam&Max adventure games, and they currently have King's Quest 1 through 5, Space Quest 1 through 5 (save for 4), Quest for Glory 1 through 3, and more. But, you know, maybe that's just me. /Disclaimer: I do work for GT, though in nothing as well-paid as PR. It doesn't benefit me to promote GT; I just happen to like it. I like Nintendo too. It's just about.com that gets on my nerves.

Sorry, but I can move an entire cartload through the self checkout quicker than it takes the typical WalMart shopper to checkout with 5 items. I have no remorse over this. If I see you come up behind me with a single item and you look vaguely competent (such as, no drool, no blank look in eyes, etc), then I'll let you go first (heck, I do that in regular lanes too). Otherwise, I'll inconvenience you no less really than the average joe in the self checkout.

Now they may continue selling the PS2 for the next 4 years (that's their business), but by and large the previous console's market dies not long after the next is released, save for in budget-oriented homes where they're staying constantly behind the curve ANYway. That aside, you can bet that when MS and Nintendo are ready to release THEIR next consoles, Sony isn't going to continue on without the PS4.
