That's why Paranoia was so much fun. I think they called their melee rules "dramatic tactical combat".
The player with the most dramatic narrative of what he does in the fight will be rewarded. Dice rolls were purely for show. Nothing mattered except the GM's whim.
"Are you suggesting that expressing concern and raising an awareness about another source of migratory bird death puts somebody in the "crackpot" category?"
No-- I'm suggesting that in this particular case of possible migratory bird death, the instrument of that possible death is also the bringer of life in the form of improved air quality and lower surface water mercury levels. And those two things are better for all organisms, not just birds.
So until all windows are plastered with anti-bird-collision stickers, and all domestic cats are fitted with collars that prevent them from leaving the house, opposing a windfarm on the grounds of saving birds is insanity.
The crackpots who are trying to stop windpower because it might kill birds should concentrate on the things that actually are killing birds: cars, cats, buildings, and loss of habitat.
um-- that's how you fix an ingrown toenail-- you sedate the toe then rip off the nail (that's what they did with my brother's anyway). That is surgery-- though really mild surgery.
I guess you could do it yourself, but it would take at least a fifth of liquor.
I don't know why they'd postone it though-- it takes about five minutes to do.
shhh-- the media is talking about hydrogen now. It is THE solution to everything.
I thought hydrogen conversion was silly when I read it-- why not just store... heat? Phase change thermal mass? Water? How much of a temperature difference is needed to run the engine?
Also-- it seems like they didn't study the wind-turbine-driven-by-hot-air-system that they're building in Australia right now (and was prototyped in Spain). How does that compare? That system basically puts a wind turbine on the roof vent of a greenhouse-- it operates all night because it's still hotter in the greenhouse than outside.

Why would a college chemistry student not know this?
"Suggesting that boys and girls don't masturbate without pornography? Children masturbate before they even understand sexual attraction, let alone requiring pornography post-puberty."
Ain't that the truth.
One of our friends just had a baby. My wife went over so our 2 and half year old could play with their three year old so the new mother could rest with the baby.
Their 3 year old lay on the bed and masturbated for *THREE HOURS* while my wife and daughter were there.
My wife came home and said, "That's no way to behave around guests."
According to my in-laws, my wife started masturbating around 14 months.
I thought I saw something on PBS last year about new Alaskan digs that suggest that settlement was around 50,000 years ago-- which is what they're claiming too.
"Many, like Huang, who has only a 7th-grade education, are barely literate."
7th grade is barely literate? What did I read for school in 7th grade? "Sounder" and "Where the Red Fern Grows" among others. I'd think that was pretty literate.
I live in NC. Yes, the ballot was long this time, but it still wasn't much data per voter. I don't think there were any votes that would have taken more than three bits (and none more than four) to store the choice.
Even if the entire ballot is stored verbatim per voter, I still don't think it would have amounted to more than one or two k per ballot.
The storage device must be tiny. Or the ballot data must be really inefficiently laid out.
My county uses pen and paper for voting. It's cheap and easy.
"But once she had convinced them that the current was harmless, Iyer says, recruitment was not a problem."
It's an experiment-- she really didn't know that it was going to be harmless-- she hypothesized that it would be. It could just as easily caused permanent cognitive function loss.
But HECO is-- they say conventional electric water heaters are the highest domestic electricity use.
IIRC, as I was moving back to the mainland, they were offering substantial incentives to people on Maui to use solar water heating because they didn't want to have to build another power plant.
"Spiders, being territorial, are impossible to domesticate."
Horses, dogs, cats, and chickens are all territorial, but they've been domesticated.
Do they have editors at this magazine?

The biggest problem with self-diagnosis is that you can convince yourself you have anything.
Every med student I've ever talked to went through a brief period of thinking "oh my god! I have that!" when they were learning disease symptoms.

"You're right solar won't work at night so we should just stop thinking about it all together."
What? I didn't suggest anything like that. In fact, I gave an example of a solar technology that does work at night.
thank you-- I knew I was missing something.
yeah, but if you were an employee, you'd get that time paid, so why not do 2080?

Isn't that the point behind sgml/xml? Maybe look for some dtds?
Just guessing, I'd start with DocBook. I *think* there's a free online book about it at O'Reilley.
All of the above is a guess-- I'm not much involved in producing documentation.

It's spelled "Cha-ching" not "Boeing".

3rd or 4th grade might be barely literate.

Is that the same as a 60% increase?
What were they using? 8k memory sticks?

Then why doesn't it fry your motor neurons?

What were the passwords?
I can't even guess my wife's passwords, and I've known her for 13 years.
If the US health system is so great, explain this to me...
The US spends more per capita than any other nation on earth-- so why don't we have the best infant mortality rates and life expectancies?
My theory is that we're being robbed-- what's your explanation?
