I'm getting a bit fed up with them as well. Somehow, I now have three 'credit monitoring' deals (the free automatic one, plus two others that I thought I got rid of when I had to cancel my old card). One of them requires me to call in from the phone number I used when opening the account (which doesn't exist anymore)...why that requirement, I do not know.
For those of us in Boston, it's going into a massive black hole (with possible direct connections to political pockets) affectionately known as the Big Dig.
I have a few relatives whose numbers come up as Unknown, so I can't block unknown numbers... One of them has a legitimate reason for doing that, not sure about the other one. When I was in college, any outgoing calls would also come up on family caller ID as unknown/out of area.
I had to re-register as well when I moved.
Now, we get either computer-dialed calls on the machine, or spiels where the caller doesn't say exactly who they're calling from (or does so before the machine starts recording--trickier to track them down). We're supposed to have caller ID but it's not happening (have to call the phone company about that--again).
If my housemate picks up a telemarketer call, she tries to get their number in order to file a report (I've been trying to tell her that caller ID would be easier; they don't need to know in advance that they'll be reported). She's also told them in no uncertain terms the number's on the list, but that doesn't seem to work. Then they tend to get sarcastic and nasty. It seems that satellite (which we do not have the need nor the money for) providers are the worst...them and debt-consolidation.
A few years ago, a woman in my mom's apartment building stole a CC statement of mine from the mail and charged over $400 worth of stuff at Bloomingdale's (phone order). I called as soon as the charge was discovered, got the runaround from both them and my bank, saying that since my signature was on the delivery slip (it was not; she had forged it and I provided proof I wasn't even at the address the stuff was delivered to). I "must have ordered it and forgotten" (imagine this said in the most patronizing tone imaginable).
They flat-out refused to give me a copy of said signature so I could prove it was not mine.
I filed a complaint with the BBB, few months later they came back and said they could find no evidence of "impropriety" by the merchant in question. Bank starts saying I'm trying to defraud them; I'm getting hit with "service fees" on the disputed amount as well as two late charges when they didn't post my check when they said they would (I still have not managed to get that money back).
The DA in the state where the theft took place had to get involved for anything to get done (and yes I closed all my acocunts at the bank in question as soon as the matter was resokved).
*nod* Also, what would happen if the autistic-spectrum person (I have Asperger's, and have very few problems reading faces) is talking to someone who is honestly interested, but listening to two conversations at once? How would the device react then...
It would be much more humiliating, as autistic individuals needs "hands-on" training with trusted people to be able to interact "normally".
Interesting question. Yes, I was bullied because I'm a naturally quiet person and in sixth grade I was reading at a ninth grade level (again, intelligent kids getting picked on). That ended when I punched out one of the kids after a few weeks of bordeline sexual harassment; for that, I almost got suspended. It took a threat from my parents to sue the school to get anything done (the bullies were suspended; a month later one of them got hauled to jail for throwing rocks at a police officer).
I was even medicated from 4th to 10th grade because I wasn't "social" according to a shrink (i.e. didn't have eight zillion friends like all the other shallow jerks in my school). Antidepressants that shouldn't be used on children, various other un-fun things.
I feel that the ordeal did make me a smarter and more interesting person because I had time to devote to other things (writing, reading, teaching myself computers, etc) than random social games.
Iridescent paint? I actually saw a car with that paint job (I think the base color was some sort of pink/purple) on a freeway in MA over the summer. Interesting, but on an extremely bright day (as that day was) I could see where the problem lies...accident rate due to rubbernecking would increase drastically in the region of the car itself.
I seem to remember a story on how you could also change barcodes with a Sharpie....the problem there was whoever was doing it had no way of knowing whether the new price was going to be higher or lower.
"when the physical possession of the original CD is transferred, any archival backups (in any form) must either be transferred with the CD or destroyed."
So (if I'm reading this correctly), in order to be completely legal, if your house gets broken into and the original CD stolen, the copy on your computer/MP3 player must then be destroyed (as physical ownership of the disc has been 'transferred'--albeit involuntarily--to the thief)?
That doesn't make sense. Then again, not many RIAA/MPAA/DRM practices do.
Anything can be "shown" to cause cancer, all it takes is the right studies by the right biased researcher. I fail to see how cannabis can be linked to cancerous cells, as cancer is basically a protein misfolding and cell division out of control. Linking marijuana to cancer formation would be effectively saying that weed causes protein formation to go awry, which is quite a stretch (in that I doubt it could be proven).

I thought it was a state trooper in that joke (that's how I heard it from a friend who's a local cop).
And go into debt more, so need to consolidate, then...aha, I see where they're going with this.

Or Microcenter. YMMV, but I've always had great luck with them.

It could be a feedback loop of some sort where outside world=social interaction...
