1. They're violent because they're bored. They have a lack of respect for authority because they have no authority to respect. Do you think these are kids with two responsible, caring parents at home?
2. They're interacting with both authority figures (the police) and equals (other kids) in a way that promotes healthy competition with no need to carry it outside. Also, none of the video games they're listed as playing are violent games.
3. The kids develop respect for the police, and friendly rivalries with their equals.
... Honestly, is there ANY part of this article that does not cause a self-inflicted how-could-they-be-this-stupid beating of head against a wall?
We've got: giving prisoners video games, being unaware the content of said games, taking games with violent content from prisoners, insulting geeks for no reason, calling sports games "geeky" games. Anything else?
Actually if you look at Everquest, DAoC, Final Fantasy XI, City of Heroes, Star Wars Galaxies, Anarchy Online, Shadowbane, etc. Pay-per-update HAS caught on... but not as a we-plan-to-improve-this-game-often system, OR a replacement-for-monthy system.
In other words, if this takes off (which it will if the game is any good) it will be severly undercutting the costs of every other MMORPG currently out there. I have hopes.
It's like everyone was just waiting around for Apple to do something like this, and now that they've done it, no matter how minisculy important it is, OMFG APPLE IS FORCE-FEEDING US FECES.
There's dozens of programs out there that let you download from an iPod (so many have been linked already that I won't even bother) the one difference between all those and iPod Download? iPod Download is an iTunes plug-in. Is it really a stretch to imagine the RIAA pulling their music from the iTMS (or even suing Apple) when they see iTunes being used for "illegal file sharing"?
Great, now when the Borg invade they'll know, from reading slashdot, that the first thing they need is an image redesign. And what'll they do? Assimilate Steve Jobs*!
You've doomed us all!
* "Steve Jobs" includes all of the unmentioned graphic designers at his beck and call**
I haven't actually played Doom III, but let me sum up every review I've seen for it:
OMFG TEH GRAPHICS ROX!!!!1 Level design is boring. Multiplayer is boring. The levels are repetitive. The enemies are retarded. The gameplay sucks. BUT OMFG TEH GRAPHICS ROXORZ!!!1
Not to be cynical, but how much of that $240 million will go into the pockets of goverment officials rather then development?
Ironically, one of the games mentioned in the links (Three Kingdoms) has already been created - as a strategic game involving diplomacy AND strategy, anyone think their version will be anywhere near as interesting?
*sighs* Sounds like the basic lot of "educational" games: lame concepts, badly designed, and boring as hell.

On the other hand, World of Warcraft actually has gameplay. You may want to look into how that can make a game more enjoyable.

It's still that simple, no matter what iPod you own, :).
And then they deleted their web browsers, plugged their ears, and threw their iPod into the sea?
That's the only reason I can think of that they wouldn't have found a way to copy their music back...

If I ever saw someone checking their e-mail on the road, I'd get myself at LEAST two blocks away from them ASAP.
I'm confused, what else are "Associations of America" supposed to do besides sue people?
Isn't that our national business?

*** Really
Buying -failing- game developers? So they can make really really really bad games, that just happen to install adware.
Brain... hurts...
How dumb do they think people are?

My response:
Sorry, I didn't mean to generalize all educational games. Just the average ones.
