But that does go along with my point. Anyone with a PhD can call themselves a doctor. Fine, they earned it. But the title is protected, because you at least have to have a PhD.
ANYONE, and I mean ANYONE can call themselves an Engineer. No requirement of education or certification. Maybe requiring a PE is too much, but how about at least an education requirement like doctors?
Great, another "I don't play games, I go outside and have friends." post. Goes well with a "I don't have a TV, I go outside and have friends." post.
Good for you! But we really don't care. And you can lose the passive-aggressive implication that those of us who do play games don't go outside, don't have friends, and spend "hours in the basement."
I have to agree. I have not had a MMORPG experience yet that rivals those first months after EQ launched. Very much a party like atmosphere, but also a huge sense of wonder because nobody had really seen anything like that before. And this was also before websites like thottbot (I know that is WoW, but I can't remember the name of some of those early EQ websites) ruined the game by providing quest solutions, maps, dungeon walkthroughs etc.
Had a 16K version in '82. Played this maze game till I wore out the cassette. Can't remember the name, but it involved getting out of a maze with these wierd creatures chasing you. Was that Manic Miner? I seem to think it was called Maze Madness or something like that.
Not that I didn't want one back then, along with a Vectrex. Parents (smartly) realized that computers were the future, so I got an Apple IIe in early '83 instead. Of course, for the price of that Apple, they could have purchased every console available at the time...
Silent Storm is a good game, I enjoyed it to a certain extent. The inability to save during a mission ruined it for me, though and I never finished it.
Fallout Tactics was also similar, and very good. Really, there have been quite a few turn-based tactical games since X-COM, but I don't think any have risen to X-COMs level. Then again, I haven't played it in years, so YMMV, rose colored glasses, the "good ole days" etc.
Actually, I think there was a similar MMORPG style game on Compuserve long before AOL. Don't have the time to look it up, and my old brain can't retrieve the information. I do remember playing it for about a month until the first bill arrived, whn the parents put a severe time restriction on my Compuserve usage.
Amen brother! I believe that you should possess a PE certification to be able to call yourself an "Engineer" under any circumstances. Doctors (MD) have that protection, why not Engineers?
Hell, the kids that pickup the shopping carts in the Home Depot parking lot are called "Lot Engineers."
Sorry, didn't mean to post that AC. Repost without the AC:
A coworker of mine, while working on charity event, had the opportunity to meet Al Gore. Being a huge Futurama fan, the coworker, while being introduced to Al, said "It is a pleasure to meet the first Emperor of the Moon." to which Al Gore replied "I have ridden the mighty moon worm" with a huge smile on his face.
I picked up a Minimate, very similar to the one linked to. Since it is a firewire drive, I set it up as the boot drive, which, IMHO drastically improved the performance of the Mini.
" I'll probably never buy something from an apple store, either, but mostly that's because I don't want to pay for the overhead on an ostentatious retail outlet."
That's funny considering the prices at the "ostentatious retail outlet" Apple store are identical to those at the online Apple store.
So tell me, did you attend a private university, with your education paid for solely on the fruits of your own labor? Private elementary and high school as well? If not, then you certainly benefitted from that damn socialism and should feel horrible that you participated in the forced (at gunpoint, no less) redistribution of money to those less fortunate, ie you.

Typical Republican spin. Take the actions of a few extremist Democrats, or Environmentalists or other group you oppose, and then attribute those same beliefs and actions to all members of that group. So, 4 Democrats slashed the tires of some vehicles on election day, therefore all Democrats approved of that action and are responsible.
Let's try this the other way. Timothy McVeigh was a conservative. Therefore, all conservatives advocate the slaughter of innocent Government employees. Strom Thurmond was a Republican, therefore all Republicans are racist. Shall I go on?
But as a civil engineer, countless people enjoy the fruits of my labor long after I have been paid. Things such as the buildings and infrastructure upgrades that I design. Based on your argument, shouldn't I receive royalties as well? Nothing much, how about a penny every time someone flushes the toilet and utilizes that wonderfull sewage treatment plant I designed? That plant has long lasting societal benefits beyond my initial effort.
Both the Grateful Dead and Phish did just that, they sold tickets themselves through mail order from their own ticket agencies. Of course, they couldn't sell all the tickets this way and were forced to allow Ticketmaster to sell a certain percentage of the tickets in each venue.
"Be carefull that you only make the "big push" after the war is over"
That is the problem with this whole conflict. When will this war be over? Under what circumstances do you see the US declaring that the "War on Terror" is over? Osama Bin Laden dead? All muslims dead? The middle east a smoking crater? It is just like the "War on Drugs" and the "War on Poverty," they will never end.
Basically Bush is requesting vastly expanded Presidential powers because he is a "Wartime President." But when you are dealing with a war that will never end, you are essentially granting the President these expanded powers in perpetuity.

" "worrrrrrst controllllls evaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrr!"
Doesn't that apply to all Intellivision games?

Didn't Prodigy have a similar game as well?
I have to agree, I really loved Planetfall. I even remember sending a letter to Scorpia at Computer Gaming World for a hint when I was stuck.
I need to go and replay that game. Is it out there somewhere?

At least that is how the story was related to me.
Yeah, sure, show me a laptop that has two 7900's in SLI, 2 gb RAM, and 5.1 sound, then I might consider the change.

Just curious, but which competitors' device holds 60 gigs and costs "substantially" less than an Ipod? I want one!

"Many common chemicals are dangerous. A chemical compound should be treated like a firearm. They can maim, disfigure, and kill if used improperly."
So can a knife, a car, a baseball bat, a tree branch, a wrench, or millions of other household and common objects.
Don't know where you live, but monkey bars and swing sets disappeared from public parks and school playgrounds years ago here in Calif.
Do you honestly think the Republicans would give it a rest if the election went the other way?
That kid was caned for writing graffitti in Singapore.
Basically, you are advocating that Singapore be allowed to send people over here to cane American kids caught writing graffitti in America.
That is stupid. Should American law enforcement be allowed to swoop down and arrest Dutch people smoking pot in Amsterdam?

Already happening.

"Bush will go too far if he he uses what you and many others consider controversial policies for reasons other than defending this country."
But, how will you ever know if he is using them for reasons other than defending this country if the information is all secret?
