So that I can hook it up to my network, along with my phantom console. Does anyone know if it will play duke nukem forever? Its also awesome because i'll be getting my wimax connection any day now.
I was just thinking about how completely out of the loop i am on this entire issue. I am young (23) and saw DVD replace VHS and it was _not_ that confusing. The DVD player hooked into whatever kind of TV you had generally and everything just kinda worked.
Right now the HDDVD and blueray fandango seems like madness to me. Different hookups, downscaling, secure content paths, Vista, all kinds of other bullshit to wade though, and for what? You get (to me) no sound quality upgrade, and a video upgrade that doesn't seem to matter unless you have a 52 inch screen and you are sitting 4 inches away. Add this to the compelling content they (studios/networktv) shit out, its amazing to me that anyone cares.
On one hand, you have scientists paid to do research by the government and other public organizations, with no instructions on what they can and cannot publish. These scientists are not paid more if they find that global warming is anthropogenic than if they find that it's not. If you think otherwise, you're drinking the Crichton kool-aid, and are subscribing to the biggest conspiracy theory of them all. You obviously aren't very aware of the politicking required to get a tenure? How about the professional disgrace of being the one 'against the grain' if you will. Also, I believe climate scientists my have succumb to the grand delusions of being world saviors! How important you must feel! Can you imagine that my research could SAVE the world from certain disaster!
I can't help but notice that these cables are selling for 50+ dollars. Obviously it is not as simple as twisted pair etc, however, I would love to know what justifies the cost?
On a Similar note, why does "Monster Cables" Advertise having gold plated contacts when silver is a much better conductor. (About 2x as good as i remember) and about 10 times as cheap! Don't even start to argue corrosion resistance....
My problem with the conversion from "global warming" -> "global climate change" is that you are moving from a prediction to a FACT. The climate WILL change. That is definite. How long, in which direction, and why, are the current affairs of the science. In this simple change in verbiage you have indemnified your entire argument.
Example:
Observation and Prediction: Humans have caused the population of snowy white rabbits to decline, action must be taken now to preserve the species.
Switch up your terms a little bit! annnnnnnnnd....
Observation and Prediction: Humans have caused the population of snowy white rabbits to change, action must be taken to ensure the population stays at current levels.
Now it may seem to only change a bit. But if you are paying attention the difference is quite potent. The most obvious is the question, "What exactly did we change and how?". In statement one we know what we changed and that gives us an idea of where to look for how. In statement two we know nothing at all.
I guess I agree with you on a large many points. The time and effort spent is justified. However the reason for my distaste for the situation perhaps stems from the large amount of 'panic' that is being produced about a very hypothetical situation, especially when immeasurably more dangerous situations are very prevalent. I guess i may have redirected my rant more effectively towards the media... =D
Why is it inevitable that bird flu will mutate into a form capable of this sort of transmission? Would it be safe to say that if in the entire kingdom of viruses that if all were inevitably mutating to forms that transmit via air that 'Bird Flu' would be one of the least of our problems?
Does modern genetics have a solid grasp on this process? Is there any indication that Bird Flu's Transmission capabilities are evolving to this end?
You may think i'm coming down on this point rather hard, but terms such as "eventual mutation" in relation to air transmission make me wonder where you, and it seems the larger population, are getting this idea from.
I feel like spending all this money and time and mindshare on the 'Threat of the week' is going to seem foolish in light of any real threat. Which it seems will without a doubt come from the last place humanity expects it.
"They are no more leaching off of microsoft than car-washes 'leech' off the auto-industry."
Your very wrong here.
Cars will get dirty no matter what happens. Dust and dirt are on the ground, water falls from the sky and sticks it to automobiles, etc..
Now Operating systems do not have to be buggy and exploitable. That is not an absoulute. That is something that can be changed.
Basically, what i think. If ford created self washing cars, and THEN the car wash racket threw a hissy fit. You would have something like this situation.
An ongoing battle between Swedish authorities and an illegal file-sharing service called the Pirate Bay can be traced to an April..
So uh, when did the court decide that? He must be an expert in Swedish law.
This came up today at my work. What ever happened to the ozone hole? Shouldn't i have skin cancer by now? All the websites i could find haven't been updated in years. Are we teaching people that these panic'ed asumptions about the way the world is changing can be ignored?
So anyone else feel like every submitter has just taken to reading digg.com and sending every single thing that floats up? Cuz. I've read the last 234723 storys on digg.com and i don't think stupid slashdot editorial wankery is helping anything.
You really think the drug companies, and the people involved with his medical practice mind? You don't think that everyone was getting some sort of cut? Its har for $20,000,000 to fly around and only ONE person get rich.
In othernews: A gun is not a weapon, as i can be used to hit people in the head with, as a hammer, a musical instrument with a dull metal sound, a paper weight etc.
I believe my gnome desktop works very well, and my 'desktop' computer works very well. BUT it can be argued that it doesn't work very well for the average user. I believe the symantics of this termanology is hurting rather than helping.
So that I can hook it up to my network, along with my phantom console. Does anyone know if it will play duke nukem forever? Its also awesome because i'll be getting my wimax connection any day now.
But you can buy a 500$ coach bag. America rules.
Thank you for saying this,

This is the equivalent of saying a toll road gets you there faster!
Radiohead did have a hit single in the mid 90's. You might have heard of it.
You're so very speeeeeeeeeecialllll........
I wish i was speeeeeeeeciallll.....
I'd go ahead and guess the reason radiohead could have such a prolific musical carrier is because the popularity of, you guessed it, that single.
You just told a guy with a 4 digit slashdot ID, That he must be new to the internet. As we say in the gaming world. GG.
