Well, what do you say to this proposal.
Google drops it's operating system in Fall of 2006.
Let's add up all the factors.
Plan 9 Operating System developer works for Google.
Web Browser Project Lead works for Google.
Google buys a fuckton of Dark Fiber Optic Cable.
I'd be willing to bet that Google is making a substantial contribution to the Mozilla Foundation as well.
It's not evil, or a corporate voice, but I can see Firefox shipping as the default browser for a fully online OS.
You want to check my facts, go Google for Google OS, and the rest on Slashdot. See what you find out. Firfox won't get more integrated with Google, Firefox will be part of Google soon - if it isn't already. It's hightime for a battle though.
What bug's me about this is that not one day ago Peter Torr was stating: "Do I really trust a bunch of kids at some random university I've never heard of?" (http://blogs.msdn.com/ptorr/archive/2004/12/20/32 7511.aspx)
Now, Microsoft expects us to trust those same "University kids" with our photo editing suite? I'm sorry, but if the foot-in-the-mouth comments don't stop - I'll drop dead soon. I get tired of stuff like this. And yeah, Washington State might still be a public institution, the software isn't open source. I'm waiting for the pay-to-play version soon...oh wait! That's right, I need WindowsXP (Priced at $199.99, or higher) to run it!
Gotcha, so not really free, just "included if you use our OS."
I can see why MS is using image fluffing in the U.K., afterall, it's needed there. However, here in the states - they'll never do this.
I think this is really a matter of them just trying to appeal as "nice" when they are concentrating on a problem in a sector they need to pay attention to. In the U.K. it's glaringly obvious that their are retailers seeling hacked Windows versions with new boxes - otherwise they wouldn't be doing this.
It really just sounds to me like a trap though.
"Here user, user...I got a present for you, that's right...it's a bug laden headache!"
This is a fact, you must uninstall the old code, and then install the new code. Never install old code on top of new code if you want a bug free solution.
Its a matter of fact, that on Bugzilla they have addressed more than their fair share of crash problems by "please do a fresh uninstall, and reinstall". So, yeah, FF might run crappier if it has a bunch of old code laying around inside of it. However, this goes the same for Mickeyshaft's Windows OS. If you upgrade from a previous edition, you're 100% more likely to see more crashes. Old crap out, new goodness in - its the premise for any healthy design.
Wine, Cedega - cool, I understand. I'm just saying there's no reason to stick with windows if you're a gamer though. And, thus relating to this topic: HL2 running on non-windows boxes.
I'd say its a good idea to sip some champagne over this, no?
http://www.transgaming.com/news.php?newsid=114
Read that for me. Linspire + "Cedega" = a win for gamers.
With Wine producing so much goodness, there is no reason for a native Windows user to switch to a Linux box. I fully anticipate Wine to be able to port every PC game over to Linux soon here.
Not sound like an advertisement - but I'm switching to Linspire very, very soon.
So I guess its only a matter of time before some incriminating evidence is recorded in a GBA. This also makes the GBA a privacy threat, LOL.
So you think little bobby is harmless playing games on "bring your kid to work day"...right...
Things firefox still doesn't have, even with all the extensions:
-Support for session management, including...
--The ability to resume sessions after shutdown or (rare) crashes
--Save/Close/Resume any number of sessions
-Format override at the push of a button
-Image override, again, with a single button
-Nearly perfect page zooming
-Dozens of little UI features like...
--Paste and Go in the URL bar
--Go To URL for any piece of selected text
--The ability to close a tab by middle clicking it
--Incredibly comprehensive keyboard support
--The ability to copy the URL of any conceivable page, frame, image, or link with two clicks
Um, all these features are supported here:
http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/index.php?showtopic =1351
Just go there , and see for yourself how all those extensions fill out all of those roles. Even session viewing. You can even "unclose" a tab with Firefox now.
That Intel has already announced that it is stepping away from the "Bigger Clock Speeds mean Better Processors" theory. The release of a higher clock speed processor seems to fly right in the face of that announcement. This is probably one of the last releases in that department they are going to make. I know that a 4 GHz will not be manufactured by Intel. As a matter of fact, you can search for the article here on Slashdot to find that they are lowering clockspeeds, and going for more efficient CPU's.
If anything this really just shows a complete lack of innovation on Microsoft's part - not step forward.
They were dumb enough to let another company steup in and tell them "your OS search methods stink", and stick it to them. While Google is stated as a very limited desktop search tool - I've had more accuracy with it than any search feature in Winblows thus far.
For MS to comeback, hijack another company, and then counterattack is as well as saying "I'm rubber and you're glue, whatever you do, bounces off of me and screws to you!"
Given that, I'm glad I'm saving up my dollars for PowerMac G5.
While it is cheap labor, it does give a student a step up in the real world.
Suppose one student proposes an idea that changes the face of Linux so that it can take the Redmond Beast to the cleaners? If IBM wanted to grab ideas for free, there are certainly less philanthropic ways of doing so. Regardless, the person who wins will get a lot more than just a scholarship from other universities and respect. His career could be pole vaulted into the history books. And to boot, this isn't the first time they have done it. It's a contest held each year. I'm hoping some brainchild of the likes of Ben Goodger drops a bomb.
Oh man, I really hate to say this, but the acronym for the Robust Anonymous Information Portal is R.A.I.P. Sorry, I'm an acronym freak.
Moving back on topic - I do think that capitalism is exploitive, yet has given us obvious benefits. I am tired of the laziness of it all though too. Copying useless ideas endlessly, and supposing people all want the same general thing is scary. That together with people generally taking great ideas, and turning them into wastes of time makes me sick. People are not predictable, and at any given moment choice ultimatley screws up any analyst's predictions. You can ask either Carl Rove, or Thomas "Neo" Anderson. Today's Capitalism is the apex of cornering people into a few number of choices. Perhaps notifying people that they in fact can have a choice was its innovation. However, now that we know this - is it still a valid thing to trust so much these days? I cannot say it completly is. Other governments are fairing fine with its influenced greatly diminished. Albeit some state that, "We don't make good use of people in X country, and tap its true potential." I can say that without a doubt that there are plenty of other coutnries contributing to Opensource Software development, and Open Source politiking and making plenty of headway.
"These are the same people that say Firefox is auwful before even trying it."
The fact is that people who state this aren't really what opensource is looking for anyways. Opensource in and of itself is a pretty much a violation of the key ruleset of capitalism. Therefore, people with money, who can throw it around - don't really care for something that isn't interested in making a substantial profit, and gaining power. These two in tandem are key for capitalism to continue.
However, open source politics CAN make money. Why? B/c if people have the choice to put people in power, and more people are donating their free time to help a politician, more money will be generated as a result. For whom though? The political parties, underlings, and so forth involved in the effort. I do not think this is an original idea, but simply a swing in the opposite direction of U.S. Politics. It was not so long ago that people were much more activley involved in politiking, and seeking to help out their neighborhood politicians.
It is only recently (within the last 35-40 years), that people have decidedly forgotten about U.S. politics. Increasingly over time people have been forced to forego their political ideas, and thoughts in order to attain marginal gain. This is dangerous, and I do think that more involvement is needed on behalf of the people's part. They should keep in mind though that what they say should offer NEW ideas, and improvement to already existing entity - not simply respewed zealotry. The last election was a prime example of such things though.
I'm hoping that is the truth, and that it is BS. I hope that its just a bunch of prefabricated lies told to sway people. I'd sleep better if it was.
I've no urge to kill anyone. Evidence is lacking thus far other than word of mouth, and results from military men. Then again, when they were parking boats on the coast of Iraq in 2003, I didn't believe them at all. Of course a few months later they go "I told you so". Maybe I'll eat crow again. And as I recall, politics and war is about has hollow as it gets.
The branch in particular was Army.
I've got several military sources, that will go unidentified, whom I attend college with.
If you don't think a draft is coming, think again. Look for a draft in March-May of 2005. Here is the latest ruleset for us college students.
http://www.sss.gov/viet.htm
"Under the current draft law, a college student can have his induction postponed only until the end of the current semester. A senior can be postponed until the end of the academic year."
Dude, why's that pig look like Mr. Garrison?

Does this mean we'll finally start seeing direct ports of the most popular gaming titles? Leisure Suit Larry for teh win.

Now where's Keanu Reeves when you need him...

It's funny, b/c they know they don't have "Anything Inside". Now their little stickers are going to say "Powered by AMD Goodies".
This is a fact, you must uninstall the old code, and then install the new code. Never install old code on top of new code if you want a bug free solution.

"December 11th, 11:11:11 2011 Skynet Goes Live."
A solid round of applause to that. One dreams of such days though, eh?
