So the pushers are raising the bar for the video junkies again, now there's a surprise!
You could just quit! Oh wait! It's neccessary to survival isn't it? Sorry I forgot.
Yes, It's sarchasm.
"If people stop buying a company's products becuase of their tactics, they'll change"
Because it's a rigged game when your government and these corporations work hand in hand to insure that there are no alternatives, then no one has to force you. You use and pay them or you get nothing(sometimes paying anyway thru gov. subsidies). It's just a backhanded form of eliminating the competition, not only that, but the customer(taxpayer) gets to fund the anticompetiveness as well as pay premium prices for commodity products.
The day the SC gave corporations equal rights to citizens was the day they "released the Krakens" amongst us. Why weren't corporate protections removed when they became EQUAL citizens? Why is it their allowed to contribute to politicians/elections their not allowed to vote for/in. Why isn't this considered graft, similar to taking contributions from foreign governments/corporations.
to share their internet with us. After all, they worked so hard to create it. I'm just so fscking greatful these guys are watching out for "everyones" best interest and not just on a power grab for themselves like some businesses nowadays.
This is my sentiment as well. They collect data on you because it's worth money to them, they then send it overseas, because it's worth more money to them. When they then lose your data to persons unknown they say "Oops, my bad, hope it doesn't cost you too much, hehe, but we're not responsible for your losses, even though we were in charge of the information we required you to give.", because it's worth money to them.
If they had to pay for there own mistakes in full, as in reimbursing ALL customer losses. I believe they'd be a bit more vigilent in protecting their CUSTOMERS data or they'd go out of business, and rightly so.
You are "disgusted and repressed" by beautiful women in bathing suits, which isn't really porn at all. IMO your the one who's been perverted. Then you demand that everyone else LOWERS themselves to your self imposed level of restriction. Thanks but no thanks.
How would you feel about someone who thought all religious artifacts should be removed from public sight.(me)( It could/has happened) That would be just fine with me, but would it be fine with you? Would it be fair to you? Note that I'm not talking about forcing anything on you, just keeping you from forcing it on me. If you can force your ways on me why not vice versa. What goes around, comes around. I don't want to see another pagan cross again and I don't want my offspring to even be aware of those strange cults at all and bible/religous books must be kept out of site in public, under the counter where they belong. If you want one, just ask the clerk.
The comfortable part is being told how to live and then if things go wrong you can blame god or satan or the "sinners"(as in anyone who's not in my religion) instead of having to make your own decisions and understanding there are and "living" with the consequences.
God, as described by many religions, all to often sounds more like a human in a god suit with an agenda book in one hand and the power of smite in the other. An awesome fear and control tactic to be sure, but God?, I doubt it.
Who cares how the universe was created as long as you believe God created it?
Umm, I do, my "god given/natural" curiosity makes me care.
IMO, Gods only laws are the laws of nature, since all others must be forced by man.
Trust me, I don't fit the typical regional demographic.
I don't have a problem with generic advertising. I have a problem with being id'd, tracked and targeted by strangers. I liken it to letting someone put blinders on me.
Targeted advertising only limits my choice based on what someone else THINKS I want. What I really want is to be my own filter and be steered as little as possible by unseen(unclean) hands.
Not entirely true, I've had several customers go back to dialup, purely because there only interested in email and very minimal web browsing and thought the price of broadband was excessive for their needs. I expect to see more of this, due to rising(?) broadband prices and the end of the fad for many.
By buying their reproductions you empower them directly.
By stealing their reproductions you empower them indirectly.
By not taking their reproductions at all you weaken them.
It seems pretty damned simple to me.
If you want the wolves out of your neighborhood "STOP FEEDING THEM" is the first step.
I have no problem with a business protecting itself. The shotgun approach in public is unacceptable though and makes them very dirty in my eyes.
Also if they bring a suit against someone and then drop it after they get the "correct" facts, they should have to pay out at the same inflated levels they set for themselves, at a minimum. Just saying "Oops, My Bad" doesn't work for sharers, why is it ok for them. They caused extreme discomfort in some innocent persons life, but somehow thats acceptable.
It isn't going to matter if it's a toll free call unless the system owner is doing it themselves.
If I, as a service tech, have to sit on the phone waiting for product activation after someone messes up there system, I'm going to charge them for that time and If I'm onsite, while I'm waiting I'll be explaining to them why this is going to cost more and I'll be explaining what the alternatives are.
Does anyone know which 20 manufacturers are affected? I'd like to be able to warn customers of the extra charges ahead of time, should this come to pass.
Perhaps the problem isn't the money at all, but the problem is that they can't be trusted with the information we have to give them. We have to exchange personal data in order to conduct a transaction over the net. As far as I'm concerned that information should never leave their business. Unfortunately they seem to be of the impression that once they find out anything about me, it becomes a salable public item. Who I do business with and what information we exchange is no ones business but mine, and only theirs for the puposes of transactions with THEM, nothing else. Their business(news sites) is delivering content, not building and selling dossiers on their customers. At least that's how they present themselves. If thats not the case they should be upfront about it and I'll just avoid them altogether.
If they took cash anonymously perhaps they'd fare better. But that's pretty damn difficult to do on the net and unfortunately businesses in general have destroyed most trust(at least mine) with their secret backroom info selling deals.
The only thing slashdot required was an email address, otherwise I'd not be here either.
I was merely responding to your insulting notion that a person can't have an opinion on something there not expert(have a solid knowledge of?) at. The only time I might agree with you is if the person expessing the opinion had ZERO knowledge of the subject, and even then I'd still tend to weigh their opinion before discarding it. They may see something in the question I entirely overlooked. I should consider it, at least briefly.
Advice is another story. But sure, I'd ask the cab driver for his opinion on tax subjects, he pays taxes doesn't he( I hope), he has at least some knowledge that's accurate and from a different perspective then say, an IRS employee(expert?). If I needed more precise advice I'd go a little higher up the tree of knowledge and ask a tax advisor, If I needed more, up to a tax lawyer, etc..
I'm guessing the disagreement here is between the terms opinion and advice. I make a distinction. An opinion your entitled to and does not require validation. Advice you should be at least minimally qualifed to give, but that qualification is really based on who's asking.(It's not how much I know, it's what I know, that you don't.)
You appear to be suffering from expertitis snobosia.
Your implying that a person can only know all or know nothing on a particular subject.
The opinion of an expert is still just an opinion. It may have more credibility, but it's not as simple as "I'm an expert therefore I'm always right and your not therefore your always wrong."
I don't disagree with having to show a licence, when you've when you've been stopped for a moving violation.
That said, I believe if they take money from you as in a fine, then you've paid for your crime. Give points(or whatever) or take money, not both, and points should TOTALLY disappear from all records after a period of time and if they take money, your violation is paid for and shouldn't be held against you any further.
You knew this when you signed the form, you can't bitch about it now
Why not, who the hell are you to say I can't complain about something that bothers me, before OR after the fact? No one ever asked MY opinion on this. I didn't see it up for public debate. I had no input whatsoever. I'll bitch if I like.
So I'm guessing you'd be ok with paying higher insurance rates for life because you got caught speeding when you were young, after all it's now on your record FOREVER. How about being pulled over on a regular basis anywhere you go, because once you got a DUI and now it shows on every report about you. This means no matter how you change , grow, learn, your violation/crime can never truley be paid for and you will be paying for mistakes until the day you die, mostley because there's money in it for someone. I guess you'd call that the "american dream" huh. Once a criminal always a criminal. One step away from a real police state, where everyone except law enforcement is a criminal waiting to be caught.
Here's some examples of what happens when you do things this way. I won't shop at any store that requires tracking cards, I always use cash whenever possible, I avoid doctors like the plague(I'd have to be dying, and I'd still mull it over first)and any other "professional?" who feels it neccessary to make my private life available to anyone with a nickle. Whenever possible I only use my credit cards for business. I refuse to take a job with any company where I'm not hired by an owner who respects my rights(I give what I'm paid to give, but you don't get my soul). I've never had a cell/wireless/cordless phone and never will. I will never use a highway "easy pass". I'll take the hit to protect my privacy and freedom if I have to.
I gotten along quite nicely so far. It's not that I have anything to hide, it's that you never know what they'll(corporati/government) use against you next or make available to your competitors/enemies. So I attempt to avoid supplying them with ammo to use against me if I can.
How does this in any way address the issue at hand. Let's forget about demlicans and republicrats for a bit.
No true scientist should ever be required to alter their discoveries, their opinions are mostly objective if their doing their job properly.
To then have some beaurocrat come along and have them alter those facts to suit some politcal agenda and still be required to pin their name and reputation on them, is an act of cowardice by said beaurocrat(s).
If conclusions are altered by desire and agenda then it's not really science and they shouldn't be considered as scientists, they'd be more like salesmen.
The right thing to do would be to make the counter argument for human use and place them with the scientific findings AND put the beaurocrats name on it.
That's called taking responsibility for your own actions.
Amazon what?
Face the wheel! I hope they hit the ground hard.
"Once you go into the sarchasm, you never come out." I have a Condo on Umissedmypoint Street. Just across from the Old WordNazis Home.

If we understood the law clearly we wouldn't need lawyers, Laws are written by lawyers.

When a tv can report back to its master what channel I'm watching, when and for how long, my sole remaining tv will have a new home on the curbside.

It works everytime. No tv, no tv hassles.

A+ certification, har har.
If corporations have the rights of people, and people can't own other people, then why can a corporation own or be owned by another corporation?
Nothin better than a whole nation of lawbreakers when fines are involved ay. Those crazy politicians, doncha jus luvem.
