"I'm quite certain a regular 32-bit PC w/ 4GB of RAM doesn't need a swapfile unless you're running Linux"
Running Linux does not require more memory, actually it is the opposite.
I believe the parent post was referring to the same, clarifying that the only time you would actually need that much memory was if you were doing something extremely resource intensive, like, say, doing scientific research calculations, or VMware'ing windows on top:)
In other news, an exploding dell battery caused severe burns on the upper torso of a man, who was, however, protected by the fact that he was in the bathtub at the time. Dell is contesting the claim of an exploding battery, claiming misuse of the device.
No, but with him on board, you won't have to ever worry about severe storms or turbulence, and you will be able to land the plane on any body of water anywhere in the world!
FYI: When tasks hang, control-click (or right-click if using a two-button mouse) the icon in the Dock, and select "Force Quit". Or, if you're a unix geek, open a terminal and kill -9 $task.
I've been using OS X for about a year now (my work bought me a mac laptop, so I can't complain), and had to power-cycle my mac exactly twice. Both for it not coming out of sleep mode properly.
If your computer is running like a slug with 1 java app, then it's either an incredibly horribly written application, or not the java app that's causing the problem.
I write in "SEE ID" and then my signature next to it on my credit cars. I then say thank you to the cashiers who check my ID.
Check your Credit/Debit card Terms. Under many of them, if you write "See ID", "CID" or a similar form, you have total liability for any purchases if the card is stolen.
it seems allergies are WAY more common here in North America
I have found that a lot of people are more hypo-chondriac re allergies than actually having them.
Another problem is that we don't eat anywhere near properly, which doesn't help a bit.

Actually, sun has been working to get OEMs (Dell, Gateway, etc.) to bundle the JRE with their systems.

Take a look at the xajax library (xajaxproject.org). I've used it with good success, and it's OO.
This was a problem with the serial modem, not linux.
