I salute you for posting a link to a story on Newsforge. Its not as though there isn't a link on the OSTG navbar on top of our screens. Again I salute you for finding an obscure story from an obscure place that most of us wouldn't have been able to find.
Ever tried AbiWord? It is a project that is concerned about user interface and useful features. It is a word processor that looks good, loads quickly, and just works. The Gimp-2 has drastically improved the GIMP interface, its not quite there yet but its coming along. It has several features that rival Photoshop (great PNG implementation) and I have a friend who is switching some of his graphics work over to it. Open Source isn't perfect, but its getting there.
As a teenager myself, the things that I can do without a parent are very limited. My parents trust me, I have given them no reason not to trust me. They do not however have the time to go with me to the store and sign off on everything I buy, however they will take things away that I am not supposed to have. It used to be that I could buy most things from a store myself, now I cannot even get canned air! What happens when all of us who are sheltered by the governement come of age and have to merge into the real world with no experience? As far as regulating books, that would only decrease literacy. Next thing I know/. will be banned for all of us under 18.
I just discovered that my (public school) science teacher is a creationist, which really scares me since he controls my grade and I am an über-darwinist.
Proof against evolution: Creationists still exist!
Ok to get Linux under a different liscense, everyone who contributed code would have to agree with the change. There are thousands of different kernel contributors, and I would imagine most would not want it un-GPLed. At most he could get a large amount of the kernel if (and he wont) managed to convince linus or andrew morton. Its just not going to happen.
I can definitely see your point, and I am not thrilled about the new logo but your post makes it seem as though opensource things cannot be proffesional or polished. Open Source will still work, but it will have to make room for large corporations. I am not sure this is a good thing, but it isnt nescesarily a bad thing. If it makes the developers happy then by all means they can use their new spiffy logo.
I use Gentoo, not because of the 2% speed boost (although it is faster than mandrake), but because of portage. Portage has almost everything, and it just works! I can get the same amount of control over my system from debian or something, but with over 100,000 packages Gentoo just saves me the trouble of going through dependency hell or tracking down packages/source code tarballs. The time it takes to compile on my system is minimal (except on kde!) so it just makes life easy.
If only it would load faster and not randomly lag on me while I am using it, it would be great. No thanks, fluxbox and gnome work just fine for me.
On the upside it makes the move from windows comfortable, load times and all!
Umm... they made a mistake

Imagine a beowulf cluster of these, just think of the throatclearing, bathroom breaking power that could be achieved!
I apologize for this post
Come on, its not debians fault that they can't make a release to save their lives, its frozen-bubble's fault. The colorful bubbles make them do it.

You both stole my joke, oh well
This story really doesn't interest me, call me when you can create a new universe with one of those things.

13TB should be enough for anyone

has netcraft confirmed it?

you bastard, tux is the shit. Also each distro has its own logo, and most of those are more corporate.

they are geeks (like me) and expect planets to at least have as many craters as their face
