Ive yet to buy any mp3 player, or buy an mp3 - or drm'ed 'song' from anybody. Until then I just cannot find any reason to buy one for the car.
As soon as I can find a song supplier who has the music I like (German 'music', and no they do not sell specific song mp3's/ (something format), then Im going to pass this drm mess.
This is a problem directed more at the music companies than the makers of mp3 players. Then again I don't want Britney crap on a mp3 player which is what most mp3 owners seem to want.
I kept 'bumping' into unisys staff at novell training events (owners of Suse). None of them used anything except Microsoft. Not quite sure why they tuned up perhaps they where bored?
It did not leave me feeling confident about unisys.
Non 'it' friend of mine had a basic pda (ancient oregon scientific) tried Palm to replace it and he had two neither of which worked (screwed up os?)- or came with any instructions.
he ended up with a basic ipaq, after increasing the disk space via an sd card to 512mb, and then buying a case (both extras) it sort of becomes usable as a portable pc.
The usb interface is slow and he has reset the ipaq several times. The extra software he bought (via hp), was really only compatible with an older version the ipaq software and he had to ask me to figure out how to get it from pc to the ipaq (pig of a process), theres also sync software, extra disks icons in xp and personally speaking while it works I dont know why he bothers with it. I mean writing spreadsheets on a 2 inch screen might be geekish, but hes got a good 17 inch monitor.
As to sound the ipaqs sound did not sound that great but i dont own an Ipod, Ive heard better sound from a pc soundcard.
My mobile phone (dirt cheap) has a currency converer (he bought a s/w converter for his ipaq), calculator, and phone book.
Its taken him about 9 months to get the hang of it
OK if you spent 14 hours a day pressing delete on spamcop reports, and then have to delete your own spam, that gets 'addictive', and god bless chinanet as do they love spammers..
Seriously if these bto/cto things ever come to dell england, I might consider dell for our h/w provided the price is right.
Don't run windows and dont want to buy it either. Thus never considered dell so Im no dell website fan.
Our local supplier - not a 'brand name' pc/things work great I never bought windoze from them either and I like my local supplier who innovated this long before dell decided to.
And there I was thinking yoda used his old age pensioners bus ticket.
'This is not the dvd your looking for' as they say.

Palm's Mistakes
·
· Score: 1
I had a mate who had tried a palm last year as a pda (owned an old oregon scientific pda thing prior).
The palm came with no instructions, he did'nt know how it worked, and it broke after the 2nd 'boot' with no instructions it went back to the the shop.
He had another palm then, yep still no instructions, and that never worked either. He ended up with an ipaq. Which has shit software (awaiting patch 'cd' from hp), but at least it came with some instructions.
His concern for the 'artists' is funny. I mean unless your like u2 you still need a job at mcdonalds because of the fees the record companies charge.
Celine Dion declared herself bankrupt and she apperently sold millions of records/songs, there is also that Courney Love speech and thats been covered here before.
If he wants to make 'artists' rich perhaps he should get out the entertainment business so the artists make more profit.
Look if your 'kind' decide to blow up innocents, pleaae don't complain about it, go help the police by helping them identifying your 'god told me to blow up' citizens on a number 52 bus becuase its sinfull on tuesday rather than you and normal life.
As to big brother, its here but quite how 'id cards' stop terrorists is something I've yet to discover. Its a con, but then again Tony Blair thinks its great.
I cannot play any cd released by 'insert record label name here' and so I decided to use the disks to stop the birds crashing to my house/flat's windows.
I understand you like to sue induviduals, but do the birds need a 'right' to 'use' your cd's in a such a manner. the sparrows, pigeons, and robins dont have lawyers, so would i liable for copyright fines if i use your unplayable cd's in this matter.
OK space sounds cool, but the average astronaught it seems to me is some coloniel in an air force - have to join the right army first and move upwards quickly.
Moving along to funding the taxpayer in america it seems would prefer that his/her children learn how god created the earth in six days.
To the staff of Nasa - it seems most of them where inspired by the moon landings, or 'rockets'. The book 'October Sky' by ex nasa employee Homer H Hickman sort of implies that.
How about Burt Rutan and his spaceships. - Space tourism I mean wow is that it.
It seems that getting in the 'space club' - is very difficult to get into, Kids realise this, hey lets do a business mba instead.
How many of us are physically perfect? and uber inteligent, not many and quite why you need to have legs in zero g is just plain daft - i mean they dont really work there - so being 'perfect' goes out the window.
There probably are fun 'space jobs' Most kids probably think that space is not for them.
Perhaps there will be an RIAA hypnosis message played in the future before every record. Payola didnt work, so why not ?
imagine....
"Yes you really love Mariyln Manson, yes you REALLY DO. Because you go to church DOES not mean you hate Marilyn is cool, and there no devil worship on an RIAA label.
Now we at the RIAA think that sales are down, so you are going to buy Marilyn's cd (insert name), then your going to another cd until we at the RIAA decide that our profit margins are mega.
This hypnosis message ends"
The riaa will own you. you may hate the music but hey who cares, you bought it. George Orwell should be proud.
"I do gamble like a $1 on the occasional lottery..."
And in my defence - euro 77 million is 95 million us dollars, or 51 million pounds sterling.
I very well might be a 'sucker' in this case.
Well - everybody gets called 'troll' when/. has a discussion on hubble, bush and science, and especially 'why god created the earth in 7 days and the moneys had nothing to with it'.
Its a right of passage.
Never learnt how to play, but I do certification tests for fun so on with todays poker tale.
So today i am in a big it training company - and I overhear some 'educator' is waxing lyrical to shedload of trainees in class about if you dont get a two, or a 6 then you won't win.
Mister probabilty probably could have told any of those students that.
Whether he has talking about poker, betting (aka the city traders), he put the nail in the head. Suckers play poker, brainy types own casinos.
I do gamble like a $1 on the occasional lottery if its a mega sum to win say euro 77 million now thats worth a very small chance.
Poker don't know how to play it, and I have no interest in learning it either. owning a casino - now just maybe i can meet James Bond and share a vodka martini.
Spamcop.net could tell you this.
Come on we know know that rr.com (roach runner) is a coakroach heaven. if only somebody could give the the navy the co-ordinates to the hr dept of rr, and then fire a missile at them then that might be deemed 'progress'
Or do what we do block - *.rr.com
I mention this not to boast, troll, or complain that the library service is way behind in the tech curve but if my fellow users Monopolise the staffs time in the same way I do I and the community it serves might be more likely to loose all of the services provided by the Library.
If say the middle management of the library department decides to add another meddlesome thing for staff to do.
Libraries should serve there users. I do happen to agree with most of you but ?
Should dvds etc be in library ? probably but it does feel more like a internet cafe, and blockbuster store rather than a library.
The problem here the is reduced investment in new book stock is being slashed. the word Library feels the wrong word when i go there.
Florida is a strange place - lots of banned books too, website by the name of ?forbiddenlibrary.com lists the censorship.
But since i went in to a libary this week may i add that i had the full atttention of a librarian for an hour reserving 18 books.
Libraries need to decide what they are either a) blockbuster, b) a book shop, c) or an internet cafe. and hire the right staff.
When i go into the library i dont want dvd's, or computer time. I want books, and if i take an hour of the library staffs time to reserve those books then it takes an hour - if your behind me well thats your problem.
Its not a very good range of films at amazon, if you want 'odd' stuff you normally end up at a specailist renter - there good for new releases i will grant them that but i dont want to see new releases as i have seen those at the cinema.
Not the best deal either. Id rather use a specailist than a generalist.
Been there done it already , Microsoft screwed 'realnames'in the name of office politics.
if people dont renew 'mydogisdead23456.com' so what ? Does it matter ?

Ipod is cool - laughs, Ipod owners are uncool.

I'm not quite sure how an 'email client' competes against the big hitters of exchange, and notes, and groupthingy in the corporate world.
So Ive never heard of it, and we do use IMAP servers to store email. very 'under the radar'.
And there I was thinking yoda used his old age pensioners bus ticket. 'This is not the dvd your looking for' as they say.

Well there goes the unix port of the aol sofware - (humour).
But look at it from a republican viewpoint. parents pay large college fees, poor sick people still die, and lawyers still get rich.
You are working from the approach it's got to a product (a good approach it appears to me)
the patent process today seems to assume that the patent is worth more than the product (whether or not it it is released) to begin with.

I agree, but thats way they do it. this 'self serve reserve feature' was meant to be installed over six months ago and so far no 'feature' yet.
I can lookup the titles and that is all i can do.
