Sure, an awful lot of it is not worth watching from an intellectual POV. But, I've noticed a trend that seems to be extremely popular. It's the 2nd theatre release. In Honolulu there is a group of theatres that run 50 cent matinee and $1 evening movies. I've recently seen Alian vs Predator, I Robot, and Van Helsing. The popularity in Honolulu may have something to do with the high cost of housing. You have to have a pretty hefty income in order to afford housing with enough room for a nice video system. Then again, it's a different experience seeing a film in the theatre.
Fancier switching supplies have a sense line. They monitor the voltage at the connector I don't recall seeing anything labeled 'sense' at the URL you referenced for your PS. The sense line looks at the voltage remote from the power supply and feeds back so that the correct voltage is delivered. You might have separate 3.3 and 5 Volt sections, each with it;'s own sense line. If it is there and at the connector, try cleaning the connector pins. If your machine is working with less memory but not with full complement you might feel to see if any of the modules are hot. Try swapping thse out from the other machine. If the engine in your car is making a funny sound and the mechanic says, I don't know what's broke but this here Marvel Mystery Oil should fix it, you need to find another mechanic. Same goes for a doctor.
You haven't fixed something until you know how it is supposed to work, figured out why it's not working, identified the cause, and dealt with the cause.
The doctor should figure out why you are broken and then apply a fix. To make sure he is doing his job you need to pin him down, just like you would someone who has written some code that doesn't work.
Nothing magic about the unit described at the link you included. How dead is it? It may be worth a peek inside to see if you've a simple problem. Fuses. Open or shorted rectifier. Cold solder joint on flyback, bad switching device(s). If you're lucky the controller chip(s) will be labeled and you can download some reference designs from that (or 2nd source) manufacturers web site. Otherwise, anything that provides the power you need and can be accomodated in whatever space you have (duct tape it to the outside of the case if you like) will work. You can probably dispense with the -12V if you don't use any RS232. The SB 850ma is for your onboard on-off switch and maybe for NVRAM. Easiest solution is to find an off the shelf meeeting specs, and if it doesn't fit inside, duct tape or poprivet it to the outside of the cabinet. If all your other parts are standard (CPU module, memory) t might be more cost effective to buy a stripped down Sun which will accomodate the parts. Plenty of used ones about. Solar Systems, Optimus Solutions (ex solar systems guys, talk to James, tell him Bob sent you), Data Instruments(probably your cheapest source for something with a guarantee, talk to Fred, tell him Bob sent you). The referenced FCC doc is a response to petition.
In it's response the FCC supports it's regulatory jurisdiction with past 'pro-consumer' rulings.
Examples:Closed caption capability, All channel capability. These are required in TV receivers and have nothing to do with current president or conress. The libertarians have been telling you all along that the govt. can justify doing things you don't like by applying the same arguments used to support the things you wanted them to do. It's the same old story, 'majority rules' is great until you're in the minority. The govt. protection of consumer advocates gave the FCC most of it's ammunition here, not GWB.
Technically the ATSC flag is optional for the broadcaster and does not prevent copying. It prevents multiple copies. Requiring it in a DTV capable receiver applies to DTV receivers, even if they are installed in computers. It's still up to the broadcaster to turn the flag on and off. If you want to get around it anyway, gnuradio will decode ATSC broadcasts, is open source, and you can disable the flag at your end. What you say, the FCC will require the flag in the receiver so how can I do this? Flag is required for digital receivers. gnuradio uses an analog receiver and decodes the ATSC on your PeeCee.
The flag will do nothing to prevent hard core (read 'beyond the shrink wrap') radio/TV hackers from removing the flag.

IMO this particular application is a solution in search of a problem. Drugs are already tracked. Every time a shipment changed hands, someone has to sign for it. RFID proposed for tracking from manufacturer to retailer. You're jug of 5000 Viagra (buy the 10's the 5's are 80% the price and a pill cutteris cheap) will only go up by $.50/$5000.
IMO this particular application is a solution in search of a problem. Drugs are already tracked. Every time a shipment changed hands, someone has to sign for it. Ahh, but the RFID solution is so much easier than taking note of the $8.78/hour warehouse worker wearing $50k in bling and driving a new H2.
What you should really fear is a mass introduction of taggants.
Put these in pizza and burgers and the guys at the waste plant will know who has been eating what and where they have been disposing of the residue.
Video camera with RFID scanner, targeting, automated fire control, and housekeeping will be a boon to the security industry.
some sensible dual core damage control...
Yes, I know.
"for the SS1 and SS2 so you should sun os 4.1.4 with its patches and enough bsd and gnu utils so your tab completion still works."
Seriously, I would like to put the 3/80 (Motorola in SS1-2 style enclosure) back to work.
Have fun!
In spite of:
Start jumbo patch download.
Head off to the bar.
Come home, pass out, wake up after noon
Check download, yee harrr almost done.

Check download, YES, start patch.
Leave for Cancun vacation.
(three weeks later) back from Cancun
Patch almost complete, clean gutters, mow lawn, wash car.
Ahhhh, now we're ready to rock and roll...
Maybe it's time to retire the SS2. You think?
Damn thing just keeps on ticking!
