    The old (for computers) addage goes: "The difference between a used car salesman and a computer salesman is that a used car salesman knows when he's lying".
    ... plus used-car salesmen usually know how to operate the product they sell. It's an old joke and I was surprised that nobody picked up on this as a variation on it.

    The correct pronunciation is "et setera", since it is taken directly from Latin.
    Nope, that's the Anglicised pronunciation. In Latin a c never has an s sound (that's what s is for), so it would be "et ketera" or maybe "et chetera". "Caesar" should sound more like "Kaiser" than "seize her".

    Essbase is an incredibly powerful Multidimensional analysis tool and combined with a powerful predictive analytics engine it can completely redefine how companies do business.

    Recipes have a lot in common with design patterns
    Do they? A design pattern is an abstract, theoretical, generic approach to a solution. A recipe is a concrete solution to a specifc problem.

    I'm currently having to deal a lot with Java and C++ programmers (all extremely senior in their field), that are trying to apply their patterns and practices in .NET, and its a total disaster.
    Sounds like they're cribbing code, not applying patterns.

    That's a totally different thing to a software bug and to compare them is stretching it a bit. Had you mentioned the relevant word "fire", I probably wouldn't have assumed you were one of the people who read this or one of the much greater number who didn't, but still commented on it.

    if someone with that condition can reproduce before they die, then it is not a detremental mutation.
    Detrimental isn't a yes/no value; there are degrees of it, many of which are less severe than sudden instant fatality.

    I'm totally dumbfounded by idiots who (rather than reading what's written, understanding it, and making a germane response) pull strawman arguments out of their ass.

    If you'd like to really dumbfound me, maybe you'd like to point out where I advocated said policy. To anyone with an IQ approaching their body temperature it's pretty clear that I hardly gave it a glowing endorsement; though I guess you'd need to know what big words like "obsolete" and "finished" mean to grok that.

    You may also like to note the difference between "could" and "should" before you come back here and end up with a hat-trick of what most people only have one of.

    There spoiled that question for whomever's interviews going forward.
    Comma after "there". As to "whomever's", I suspect it doesn't even exist. Since "whom" is to "who" as "him" is to "he", it would be logically equivalent to "him's". It's certainly not in me's dictionary.

    Oh bullshit. Good development and good code isn't about reinventing the wheel when good algorithms and code already exists.
    So what? The point is to test your ability to think on your feet. Whether the exercise is a likely real world case or not is irrelevant. If you can code it off the cuff in the allowed time, you've exhibited a basic level of competence. A competence that no matter what you think is transferable to a real-world situation. And BTW, I've heard your argument a hundred times.

    The obvious way to show this is that if CS graduates were paid a million dollars per year starting out, people would be leaving other careers in droves to pursue a career in computer science.
    Imagine a situation where the demand for programmers is incredibly high. Salaries could get bidded up to the point where anyone who knows which side of the keyboard to sit is well into 6 figures. And by anyone I mean anyone; lawyers, pole-dancers, used-car salesmen.

    Be thankful that it could never happen. Because if it did we'd still be fixing the mess they made seven years, one month and, ummmm, 26 days later.
