The word 'addiction' is used in such a pejorative way these days. who cares what Joe Bob, the next door neighbor, does with his time and money? this issue is unworthy of serious attention. What concerns me more is addiction to television and all-out drama. have you seen anything on television lately? if world war 3 came around in a couple years, I'm sure they'd even turn that into a reality show and everyone would love to sit mindlessly infront of their brain sucking CRTs. unless you've got evidence of a truely and physically addictive act, then don't call it addiction. call them what you will: hobbyists, enthusiasts, whatever, but don't call them addicts.

I work 40 hours a week, all 52 weeks of the year. working takes up all day 5 out of 7 days a week that I could be spending with my family. are you going to call me a job addict because that interferes with my family life?

this issue is absolutely frivolous and unfounded.

you don't seem to understand. this is nothign like R ratings at movie theatres. the point you're missing is that even if YOU decide your child can play a violent of sexually explicit video game, he STILL cannot, and you will be sent to jail or be fined and all that, and who knows, child protection agencies would take your kid away because you did what you thought was best for him or her.

what this means, is that video games will become controband to minors, no matter WHAT the parent has to say about it.

  20. in response on Doom Movie Update · · Score: 0

"A correspondent of Novinky.Cz recently attended the Prague set of "Doom" and reported back a well spring of information in regards to the video game adaptation. Originally, the $70 million film was supposed to be helmed by Enda McCallion. Later, he was replaced by Andrzej Bartkowiak. Screenwriter Dave Callahan claims "everyone was keen to keep the game's atmosphere", though there are some "minor" changes done to the film's concept: The monsters have nothing to do with hell, the plot is not taking place on Mars and "space marines" are not well "space marines" as their outfits are more like SWAT team members. The story follows eight marines, teleported into a command centre of a secret base on a remote planet. There, they learn that something strange is happening and soon monsters start to appear. The monsters aren't from hell, but rather people mutated by some nasty super-virus although the monsters look very similar to those in the game. One character is a technician called "Pinky" who has a cybernetic wheelchair thanks to a bad teleporting accident. Pinky later mutates into something remotely resembling a creature from Doom 3. Producers claim that the film will be more of a horror than an action shooter. There will be loads of shooting though, especially in the end where a large number of sequences will be shot purely in "first-person" perspective of the leading character (Karl Urban). The chainsaw and Bio Force Gun do appear in the film. " first of all, everyone knows its not a "Bio Force Gun"...its a Big Fkucing gun. I, as well as anyone that knows of me, consider myself a huge fan of the Doom series. what I get out of this is basically: " we have change the whole story, changed the environment, changed the main character's role, threw in some crap that we thought was cool [ala SUPER-virus!] all for the sake of ruining the name of a PC gaming legend. oh, but we kept the same monsters! except, a pinky demon sits in a wheel chair." I was actually looking forward to this movie. now I realize its been completely screwed by the movie industry. I'd ask if this was an independant film, but from what I've seen, this has to be hollywood's fault. it better have some cacodemans, hell-knights, barons, soem lost sould, and an arch-vile. imps are a given, they're sure to screw up the former human sergents and soldiers, and I already know the pinkie demon is screwed. I want HELL, not some fancy virus! I'm sick of virii in movies...its time for change. lets go back to the good old days of movies like "The Gate". that was a great movie.
