The public healthcare system in Ireland is appaling. It is one of the worst in the EU. In a recent appraisal of the A&E hospitals, seven were declared unfit for purpose.

After my mother had a bike accident the 'doctors' in the A&E missed the two breaks in her thumb, which a friend of her's (orthopaedic) spotted instantly.

My girlfriend was told to go home from a hospital after being taken in by ambulance due to a swollen leg with suspected DVT, they wouldn't even do an ultra sound to test her! As it turned out she had a large blood clot in her upper thigh which could have killed her had it dislodged.

I encountered similar levels of incompetence while receiving treatment for a broken scaphoid.

By all means bash the healthcare system in the US, it sounds atrocious. But don't pretend that Ireland has acceptable public healthcare.

Christians would like proper credence paid to differing viewpoints

Do you mean that 'Christians' would like ID to be taught in schools? ID is complete pseudo-science bullshit and lots of reasonable Christians know this.

Some of the most influential scientists such as Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Newton, Boyle, Faraday and Pasteur.

That sentence makes no sense at all

Anyhow, what exactly would be wrong with a Christian republic?

Look at Iran for a shining example of a Muslim Republic, I dont think it worked out too well for them.

if there were no concept that humans were free beings (in the image of God), there would be no reason to allow the unlucky a say in the Res Publicae, and no reason not to accept the king's existence as a divine mandate

If there were no concept of God, there would also be no reason to accept any 'divine mandate' (including the king's existence as a divine mandate). So I think claiming that christianity is behind Democracy is a weak argument.

    You are dead right.

You might think that the analogy of paying to put one's dick into some woman (who has had a thousand other dicks in her) versus the Kiwis paying a professional company to provide a solid IT infrastructure is a good one. I think it is ludicrous (and funny), hence I was surprised that it was modded insightful rather than funny.
