  1. Not a new idea. on Saving 28,000 Lives a Year · · Score: 1

They're called ordersets. I worked for a company that sold subscriptions to them and had software for authoring your own. Subscriptions started at $1 million/year, three year minimum contract. Not out of the question for a large metro hospital, but may be out of reach for the budgets of a smaller county hospital... Last I heard, the company was tanking.

  2. Of Course you can. It happened a lot here: on IT Job Without a Degree? · · Score: 1

For example, at my first developer job out of college (Insurance company, 2000), the lead developer drove a truck for Frito-Lay and BS'ed his way into IT Dept. Of the 12 of us, I was one of two with a degree, and the only one with a Comp Sci related one.

Of course, they all produced the kind of code you'd expect from the guy driving the potato chip truck. When I left a year later, they were considering getting Source Safe instead of using zip files for source control...

I'll tell you why I care. Because the neighbor's dog is a freaking mutant, and eats things that *aren't food* and don't get digested. I've had to clean up everything from condoms to scraps of cloth and likely carpet fibers to a piece of metal that I suspect was an underwire from a bra.

How about economics? Psychology? Current events? Foreign relations?

People don't know enough about anything to make an informed decision when it comes to the actual issues. Campaign managers know how to spin anything to make their guy look good and the other guy look bad. I consider myself a fairly smart guy and there have been times where I've accepted a candidate's not-quite-straightforward answer until someone calls them on the facts.
