FTA: "to emerge from their industrial cages and to move into homes..."
What is the artical talking about here? Home robotics are time savers for people, things like the Romba. Theres know reason a electric broom should need to be told not too kill anyone. How about your washing machine? It meets the basic requierments to be a robot, but of corse it should know if you fall inside right? But, if you would like and industrial welder in you living room, you might want to consider it.

And this is the Internets fault, how? The same person who is looking at these pictures is going to be the same one who will draw pictures in paint and show it to the people around him.
much the same as renting a video or DVD
Much *unlike* renting, How many times have you rented a movie and wathced it more than once. Or someone was out at the time and they wached it when they got back. Pointless....
Ok, we have our terms that we use and nobody wants to learn them. So, what do these people prepose we do? IM00987.fileformatthatsuportstransparenceofindexed ormonotonepictures?
or IM00987.gif, I mean is that really that hard, the "confusing" jargon is there for your own good.
why would you throw out your computer just because it has spyware? Just reformat it, Or just switch to Firefox... Problem solved, but if you do go buy a new one, I'd happily take your old one:-)
You should not try to keep you child away from technology, IMO its should just be there, that way its not "new" so there would be no reason to spend 8 hours a day on it. If your child expresses an intrest in it; show them a few things, use technology as another way to have fun with them, show them some of your code, make a family website together... In short dont try to avoid technology, use it as another way to interact with your kids.
Just put in a few things from each catagory (games,music,books...). Give the rest to some one/organization were they can by used right now. Also, why not set the signal to start after a shorter time (like 100 yrs) and leave a message asking the finder to replace/reset the beacon, and to add some important things from their time and "redeploy" the capsule.
Ya Realy. I started screwing around with our new Windows XP, Id had some experience on a friends 98, but not much. Then for christmas my mom got me a copy of Maximum PC. I downloded some suggested freeware apps to make windows bareable, and then..(bum bum bum bum) I stumbled across their 11 sites every geek should bookmark, one of wich was slashdot so I tried it. I read some article I dont know wich one but it made me want to program. I started with JavaScript and the rest was history.
It all depends on if their geeks or not. If they are geeks don't limit their time. If my parents limited my time then I would have never known all the stuff i know today. if their jus talking to friends and have no computer skill what so ever then you should think about limiting their time, because thier more likely to screw up your/their computer.
