    You're right. Sometimes it's more then twice the price.

    So...? Apple can charge any price its customers are willing to pay.

    A billion dollars for a browser choice dialouge? It is beyond my comphrension how this could be considered rational or acceptable in any way.

    It's proportional to the company profits. All the big number means is that Microsoft earns a lot of money.

    No. Voodoo used relays to take over the monitor cable. You connected your graphics card to the voodoo and the voodoo to the monitor.

    Both MacOSX and Windows extensively use 3D operations for their UI, so it gets used all the time now.

    Not really. They're just fancy window compositors, something even the most basic integrated graphics chip can handle these days.

    I still think the system used by PowerVR was the best. You have your desktop graphics and the 3D is overlayed on top of it. The video card has no external connector. It makes your 3D card cheaper and to some extent it frees you from buggy drivers (your desktop graphics are unaffected if the 3D card crashes). You could save power by turning it off when not needed. You can even pull the 3D card out if it dies and still be able to use the machine.

    I think we'd all be better off these days if that sort of arrangement had become standard.

    If a family is going to buy a PC, what difference is it to MS whether it's Windows 7 or Windows 8.

    People only upgrade when they see a number in the store which bigger than the number they have at home.

    If everything in the store says "Windows 7" then they lose a lot of sales.

    I'm sure the apology makes him feel much better. He's probably celebrating right now.

    Weirdly enough the article seems to have skipped the bit about where the lawbreakers are being processed by the law along with the return of his property and some restitution for his losses. I'm sure it's happening though. I mean, why wouldn't it?

    Um, that's the whole point. "Technically correct" isn't what the public should be fed.

    What the public needs is something they can visualize in their heads, and more importantly, compare with other things. This is why MPG fails, and why L/m^2 is a bad choice (whats wrong with "millimeters"?)

    a) People usually want to know which model consumes less.
    b) Is a car which consumes 20MPG twice as bad as a car which consumes 10MPG? No? So how much worse is it, exactly?

    (Try answering (b) without a calculator...then ask the same question for a car which does 10GPM vs. a car which does 20GPM)
